Gotta say, I only keep coming here because of the location. Although, if you feel that a normal $ 5 cut doesn’t to your hair justice — and many of them are terrible — this is a cut above the rest(pun possibly intended). However, I just don’t see why the Spanish news is so enthralling that I can’t get a few lines of conversation with my $ 8 cut. Oh well, like I said, it’s convenient

This place is great as long as you’re not looking for conversation, which I’m definitely not. My haircut took less than 20 minutes, cost $ 8, and looked amazing. I will be going back.

Love this place. Super fast. Only $ 8. Perfect for guys needing a quick, short haircut. Easy parking in the street behind the place too.

I hate getting haircuts. I can usually go several months without a trim because for me, a haircut is as unpleasant as going to the dentist. However, I never have anything to complain about when I get my haircut at Mary’s. First off, I love the fact that it’s ‘walk-ins’ only, and I don’t have to make an appointment. Secondly, the haircuts are quick, cheap, and most importantly — they look good. The asshole who complained about the employees not being able to speak English, as well as the place being too«Latinocentric», is an ignorant jackass. He has no idea what he’s talking about. The women that work at Mary’s are incredibly accommodating, work remarkably fast, and are as friendly as can be. You really can’t ask for much more. And it doesn’t get better than a $ 6.00 haircut. Period. Never in my life have I gotten such a reasonably priced haircut in which I was more than content with. I tend to leave $ 10 because a $ 6 haircut almost doesn’t seem fair, and they certainly deserve to be payed accordingly. I really can’t think of any other place that I would rather get my hair cut at.

Mary’s Unisex is a good find for bargain hunting men who want a basic $ 6 cut. It’s convenient for people in or around Uptown. The women who cut hair are nice, just have a clue about what kind of cut you want(clippers, scissors, etc.) and you will be fine. I give 5 stars for value, not super fashion.

Ever noticed how the people who shout the loudest about getting the dang Mezzicans to speak Murican always have terrible spelling and grammar? I wouldn’t be surprised if the people at Mary’s speak better English than you do, Willem, and I’m certain they speak better Spanish. Anyway, I’ve never had any problems communicating with the folks at Mary’s, and even if I did, I’ve brought them pictures of the haircut I wanted and they reproduced it exactly. This place is super – I’ve never had to wait more than five minutes for a cut and I’ve always been totally satisfied. Can’t beat it for $ 8.

I love this place. The idiot below has a exaggerated account and is just racist and bigoted, trying to pass it off as wit. They might not talk much but thats due to the fact that they’d rather cut hair than gab and harp on about stupid crap like many people do nowadays just to hear themselves prattle on. Mary does a stupendous job and hasn’t messed up my hair once, unlike Supercuts which considering that they speak English primarily in most branches always seem to befoul my most simple request which is not to make it too short. Hell I could cut my own damned hair better if I had to. Although its only a $ 5 cut I always give her $ 10.00. She even colors hair, cut & color for $ 25.00, which is completely awesome.

Its hard to be critical of a salon that only charges $ 5(for men). But Ive had one too many bad experinces here to now motivate me to rage against this little hovel. You may ask, why even get a $ 5 haircut — arent you asking for trouble? For the most part the price and convenience are great. Theyre never busy and you can pop in for an emergency cut before a party or Cubs game etc. But major handicap here is that the 2 ladies do not speak a lick of English — or they are so Latinocentirc that they refuse to etc. Ususally when you walk in they say«how?» AT this time you are to point to their huge board of photos featuring 20 or more hairstyles. Pretty scary because you have to make sure you point to the right one. The rogues gallery of people sporting those cuts in the photos are like a Latin Kings gang recruiting poster. If anyone one of them actually walked into this place, I’d hit the ground. Anyway, my most recent and final experience involved me pointing to my cut of choice(#18) and then having the angry Latino woman just start gouging my head with a razar — virtually beginnng to give me a crew cut. I told her to stop and said that I wanted«18 not #12» At this point she got furious and just continued to shave me while her co-worker laughed. At this point I wondered if her certificate on the mirror was a forgery and if either of them were state certified. Anyway I got the worlds worst haircut, a devils haircut, and instead of my usual $ 5 dollar tip I gave her none. We had this wierd standoff as I left as if she resented me interupting her lunch. She snached the 5 out of my hands and bolted back to her tacos. The whole thing just gave me a moment of clarity as to «how can you even pay the stores rent on $ 5 hair cuts.» So who knows how theyre supplementing theyre income but I really shouldnt feel DANGER when Im walking in to get a casual haircut. Id say avoid this place at all costs, unless your drunk or have a large posse with you.
