To say this was the worst experience I’ve ever had with a service provider would be a major understatement. It all started when my doctor recommended this crew to me — apparently they’ve helped him and his family move several times before, and it’s always been a good experience. But for some odd reason, it seems that this company just picks and chooses the customers they will treat well, and with the rest of the customers… well, you can read some of the reviews here and see for yourself.
In our case, he wasn’t rude or aggressive (as evidenced by some of the other examples on Unilocal), but he simply refused to provide us a service that he had COMMITTED to. We hired him to move our stuff on June 30^th, since we had to be out of the apartment then, and to move it into our new place on July 1^st. The time we had scheduled with him was 6 PM, and my roommate spoke to him on the phone several times throughout the day. When 6 PM hits, he doesn’t show up… 7 PM, still no movers… 3 hours later, between my roommate and myself we had left him over 30 missed calls and multiple voicemails. He NEVER answered his phone or replied to any of our messages. 7 days later, he still hasn’t even had the decency to call us back and apologize for NOT SHOWING UP and for leaving us stuck without a mover, scrambling to find another company at the last minute (I mean REALLY last minute… 10 PM on the night when we were supposed to be out of our apartment), and risking us paying a ridiculous fee to our landlord due to our inability to be out of our place on ⁶⁄₃₀.
Luckily, I was able to find another company that came by early on July 1^st, and they took care of our move. But that is besides the point — the fact is that I’m still dumbfounded by the lack of professionalism and CONSIDERATION from this company. I would understand if something had happened and they were unable to come that day, but the fact that they never called or answered the 30+ calls makes it VERY HARD to believe that they even cared about notifying us they weren’t going to show up, rather than letting us wait around for hours. I don’t know if something serious happened and they were unable to get to their phones, or maybe one of their «VIP clients» called and they decided to service them instead… But the fact is that I’ve never been so disappointed in a service provider in my life.

Dave stole 250k of art, furnishings and personal items. He is a scumbag. Please help me recover our items if anyone has faves address or knows anything about this please message me.

BROKE 47′ FLAT SCREEN TV!!!
You know what I really hate to do this to a small business but fair is fair. I contacted this company and talked with Dave who insured me that they would take care of me. And from what I could see they did the movers worked hard and fast, except for a guy named Lee. But when I got to my new place and began to look closely at my furniture I notice my dinning room table was all scratched up and worst of all my my 47′ VIZIO television screen was cracked. I called Dave and told him about my television and sent him pictures he was nice about it at first and we agreed on a fair amount of money for reimbursement of my TV. However, when it came time for Dave to pay it he went missing. An has yet to settle his debt with me. At this point I plan to sue this company and Dave for damages.

I needed a mover recently and found «First Choice» on craigslist. I called Dave on very short notice (less than 48 hours in advance). He answered the phone right away, not necessitating my having to leave a voice message and waiting in anxiety to have my call returned (as I had done with several other movers over the previous few days, thus, making this «short notice»). To make a long story short, he sent two of his guys over and though they had to call to say they were about 20 minutes behind schedule, they did show up 20 minutes later. They went about their business courteously and efficiently. After unloading the truck, they stayed to help assemble some of our furniture that was new and still in boxes. This was a big relief! I’m glad I didn’t have the same experience as many of the other reviewers — I usually look at Unilocal before hiring a person — but am happy to report that Dave really showed up for me and his folks did a fine job. I consider him a wonderful resource and wouldn’t hesitate to call him again in the future.

I texted David in the morning to confirm my reservation and he said yes there are two movers booked for me, but when the time comes they just never show up, no text no call no nothing, I called David several times and left him voicemail, and one hour later my call goes right to the voicemail. SUPER IRRESPONSIBLE, screwed all my plans and I have to reschedule the elevator, picked up a truck myself, and RESCHEDULE MY FLIGHTS!!!

After posting this review, I did finally get a tracking number. I then received the stolen item a few days later. All in all, the move was fine, but after the hassle of trying to get my stolen property back, I’m not going to give this more than a 2 star rating.

This guy and his company should are the lowest excuses for human beings on this earth. Suppose to move me at. 4pm. Call telling me they hit traffic and will be late. I try calling back one hour later which I thought was being generous with allowing for traffic and guess what neither Dave or his workers will take my call. Are you kidding me??? Clearly he had pulled this antics with others. If after reading this you would actually hire this loser, then you get what u deserve.

Four years since my move and still haven’t received my things. These guys are scam artists. If you lost some art in a move, contact me as I have someone else’s stuff in my storage unit. I wonder where my things ended up? Trust your gut and do not hire these guys. If it sounds too good to be true, it certainly is.

Excellent. I have used David’s movers twice. On both occasions, they were early, friendly, and professional — throughout the move — not only at the beginning of the move. I am not the happiest camper on moving day and both crews not only put with me, but were nice about it. They went out of their way to move two couches that were in the basement outside of the move and not a complaint. Very good!

Zero stars at this point. Ordered movers for 11 today and they still have not shown up (it’s 415). I received one text at 1PM from David that they would be here by 2PM due to being delayed with an earlier move. But I’m still waiting and no one is returning my calls or texts. Help!

My boyfriend and I moved in together yesterday and David and his team were an amazing help! It was a very smooth move, done professional and efficiently. We could not have done it without them!
My boyfriend and I each moved from our apartments with roommates, in to our two bedroom apartment together yesterday. We decided to do both moves in one day to expedite the process. I shopped around a few quotes and decided on David only a couple days before the move (my planning skills need work…). He was great throughout the entire communication process, responding promptly and very helpful.
The day of, I was actually not present for the move. My boyfriend had the day off, so he (like the gem of a man he is) did the move for me. I kept in contact with him throughout the move because moving stresses me out and I was so anxious just to get it done. They started at my apartment (South Loop) and two movers arrived promptly at 11am. David himself even called about a half hour before they arrived to confirm the addresses and offer his help if anything was needed. My apartment had a freight elevator & a loading dock that I had reserved, so it was a smooth process. I have a queen bed and three old maple dressers that they moved expertly.
The next stop was my boyfriend’s place (Wicker Park/​Humbolt Park) where they loaded everything in from the alley behind his building. His place was a 2 story walk up, but they still got him moved out in 45 minutes. He only had a full bed and boxes.
The last stop was our new place (Logan Square) that is a 2 story walk up, where they had to load from the back alley with only a narrow back staircase to move things. This part took and hour and a half but that is totally understandable since it was not the easiest unloading situation.
The whole move took 5 hours and cost under $ 500 including tip, which I think is a great deal and a good time considering they moved things from 10 miles away. They were very nice and professional and took great care of mine and my boyfriend’s things. Even after they had placed everythng in the new place and the paperwork was signed, they moved a couple tv stands that we wanted to switch around.

Friends and I have used David’s moving company a number of times and every time they are on time, friendly and fast.
You really can’t get better movers for the money. I would TOTALLY use them again and would recommend them to friends.
Side note, I called another moving company when I was comparing prices and schedules, the minute they asked me if my third story building had an elevator, I knew I’d get a high quote. Please, this is Chicago!

I wish I could tell you how David and his team performs, because that would mean that they actually did the move. Unfortunately, they just failed to show up. No call, no show, no explanation. I’m not exactly sure how he plans to stay in business with a reputation for creating such an inconvenience for his «customers.»
UPDATE: I’ve revised my review. David explained the circumstances for failing to show up later that day. He rescheduled the move at my convenience later in the week, and ended up charging considerably less than originally agreed. On the whole, my experience was positive, notwithstanding the frustrations early on.

I’ve surprised to see the negative reviews. It’s unimaginable, really, and impels one to wonder whether there is a vendetta at work here. Three times I have moved with David’s crew and it went from great to even greater service over time. David is very communicative. His rates are very, very reasonable. His guys work hard without pause yet always with a (charming toothless) smile. Today my condo building screwed up and double-​booked the freight elevator; my movers from LT actually pitched in and helped the other crew unload so we could save time, and in turn my money. Well above and beyond their call of duty. If I were a mover I’d have cracked open a Pepsi and waited it out.

Wow. So here it is a year after my move, and all the subsequent reviews (once you weed out the forgeries) all play the same tune: the team at LT moving are only slightly less inept at the moving business than the people who built the Chernobyl reactor were at safety standards.
No customer satisfaction, no resolution, no return of missing items, no respect, no communication — doesn’t it all add up to no good reason for Tomei and company to be allowed to conduct any sort of business?
Legitimate complaints are met with bizarre personal attacks — truly the last refuge of someone who has been caught red-​handed at their own incompetence. And of course, the whole team backs away into a cowardly little corner when called out.
Dear Unilocal readers: you are quite better off moving by yourself or, certainly, spending the money on actual professionals who behave like adults. There is a reason that all the one-​star reviews seem eerily repetitive — the same ineptitude plays itself out every time this band of clowns takes on a job. Save yourselves the headaches and avoid LT at all costs.

Whatever happened to «I’m sorry?»
Six months after my move was finished, Mr. Tomei insists on re-​opening my review with a further post.
My post, and and my boyfriend’s, consisted of comments relating to the move. We both stand by our initial posts — from Dave mis-​gauging the size of the truck needed to the fact that many of our things arrived crushed, chipped, dented, etc.
Dave’s responses, by contrast, consist of personal attacks against us. According to Dave, we are hateful people, bigotry and bias exist in us, I clearly have problems, and we are «Hitler Youth», among other things. C’mon. Even if we were Hitler Youth (which we are not), there was no clause in the contract saying that makes it ok for our things to arrive trashed.
Dave’s posts have never addressed the substance of our concerns, much less offered an apology. If you want to know what sort of business owner he is, you don’t need to read my review or anyone else’s — good or bad. Just read what Dave writes.

And it’s barely one star, at that. The only reason he gets one star? All of our stuff DID arrive. In great condition? Eh, not so much.
We needed to move across country — something Dave says he does — and decided on Dave for two reasons: 1) because the movers that we’d used in the past weren’t available, and 2) because Dave had a number of good reviews and (at the time) no bad ones. Or maybe the bad ones were all filtered, and we didn’t see them. Either way, we should have — and will if we ever need a mover again — hired someone else.
I don’t have the time — and you don’t have the patience, I’m sure — to read a blow-​by-​blow description of what happened after we’d picked a move date. But here it is in a nutshell:
Dave never showed, even though he said he’d be the guy doing the move. Instead, he sent four other guys — who arrived in 3 shifts — to move us out. Not only that, they 1) arrived in a truck that was too small for all of our stuff, and 2) didn’t make any effort to inventory what they were loading. Why is that important, you ask? Well.
Truck number two showed up later, and whatever wasn’t put in truck number one went into number two. And then they left, headed back to ‘Dave’s Place,’ whatever that means. Since it was late, we figured they’d leave the next a.m. Nope. First, they would unload both trucks, shift things around, and re-​load the trucks. So stuff that started out in truck number one wound up in truck number two, and vice versa. Oh, and things which started out together got separated. Even better, truck number one left two or three days ahead of truck number two, so our stuff arrived in two shifts. Fortunately, my girlfriend had moved long distances before, and had made notes on what was where, which was insanely helpful later.
Dave had promised our stuff would all be shrink-​wrapped. Uh, no, it wasn’t. Even worse, things like the dresser were disassembled, and no care taken with regard to things like screws. You know, those little things that help keep the mirror on the dresser? You’ve seen pictures. Yeah, they all pretty much disappeared. We found some on the floor of the truck (#1) a few days later, but mostly they’re gone. Other stuff arrived chipped, dented, covered in dirt & dust, or just plain trashed. Boxes? Well, the ones that arrived intact barely outnumbered the ones that arrived torn, smashed or worse. Of course, the expensive printer wound up in one of those ‘or worse’ boxes. The other printer wasn’t even boxed or wrapped or anything — they just loaded it on the truck.
The unloading was worse. Truck #1 arrived with two guys who’d driven it cross-​country. Four guys had loaded it, two unloaded. Truck #2 had four guys — if you count Dave’s AARP-​aged brothers, who mostly sat around talking. Otherwise, it was two 20-​somethings who’d answered an ad on Craigslist, and had never before done this. And probably won’t again, after Cheap Dave paid them a whopping $ 60 total for over four hours of work. Let’s see, $ 60 divided by two, divided by four… hell, Wal-​Mart pays better. Even more annoying? Truck #2 arrived a day early, or a week late, depending on your viewpoint. Ours is the latter, and it forced us to cancel a planned trip. Not cool.
The best was yet to come, though. Dave had a kicker in his contract that allowed him to up the fee by 10% for increases in fuel costs, which he did — despite the fact that fuel costs had actually DROPPED in the interim. Smooth. Didn’t work, but smooth.
And the piece de resistance came when my girlfriend expressed her disappointment, particularly based on Dave’s Unilocal reviews. Dave’s response? «I don’t use Unilocal.I don’t pay attention to it at all.» Uh, Dave, you responded to someone, so… that’s not true. But I shouldn’t be surprised. It’s consistent with the rest of the move — overpromise and underdeliver.
And, yes, this is long, but it really is the Cliff’s-Notes version…

I was satisfied with using LT Moving the first time I used them. Took them 6 hours to move a 2 bedroom condo with three men, one of them being one of the partners of the company. I recommended them to friends who used them. They had an okay experience with them.
The 2^nd time was a whole different story. They showed up 2 hours late with excuse after excuse on why they were late. They did not bring wardrobe boxes as promised. I had less stuff to move the 2^nd time around and it took 8 hours to move 2 blocks away. When unpacking, I discovered furniture piece upon furniture piece that was damaged during the move. I called David T 5 times and he still doesn’t have the decency to call back. Suffice to say that, my opinion of LT Moving has changed.
David is great when scheduling the move but heaven help you if something goes wrong. He won’t face up to problems or issues at all.

For my 20^th (and hopefully last!) move in 18 years, I called David Tomei of LT Moving based on the reviews I’d seen here on Unilocal.I could not be happier with the entire situation. David came to my apartment to assess my stuff and gave me a written estimate that was well below the other estimates I’d received.
I got extremely sick the week before the move (was still sick on moving day), and didn’t get everything packed up. I was worried about finishing, and the day before, David called and asked if I needed anything — boxes, help packing, extra furniture pads, etc. It really set my mind at ease, knowing that help was available if I needed it.
On moving day, the guys showed up 15 minutes early and got to work right away. They helped me take the large furniture apart and really hustled to get the truck loaded up. At the new house, they put all the furniture and boxes in the rooms where they belonged, and even adjusted furniture around the room for me. It wound up taking longer than the estimate, but David stuck to his original quote.
Everything went very smoothly, and David and the guys were all very respectful of my belongings and so helpful. I hope that I never have to use them again (no more moves!), but I highly recommend them to anyone who has to move.
