I’m here multiple times a week. Some weeks it could be as many as six times. I enjoy that they open at 4am during the week as my work often has me out during the middle of the night. The best thing here are the special occasion multi-tiered cakes. Weddings, birthdays, retirements, graduations… the list is endless. Such great design and outstanding fillings like custard, pineapple, and apricot. Over the last 10+ years I’ve had dozens of cakes from here. While I do like Cakes by Carlos in Lombard a bit better, these are great options and more local to me and most of my friends. Some of the non-refrigerated special items can be held on display four to five days allowing some drying out and bad frosting crusting. This is a consistent issue and responsible for my deduction of one star. I find the eclairs to be delicious(some of my friends find the chocolate to be too sweet and too plentiful) and the fresh morning donuts and muffins are great if you capture them before 12pm. There is coffee, hot tea, and hot chocolate available all morning. A cooler of cold drinks is always stocked and available. I’m a sucker for cold milk with my donut. Keep an eye on the daily specials. From zucchini bread to special holiday offerings like mini pumpkin pie or small panettone loafs there is always a reason to drop in during the week. Keep your eyes open or just drop in to see what’s happening. Parking has improved greatly with the razing of the building on the corner. There is always a spot available on 63rd or on Central available. Parking is limited to one hour only but it’s free! This is easily one of the stronger all-around bakeries in the SW Chicago area. While it takes two hands to count all the bakeries within a mile or two from here this is an easy go-to spot for most anything you need. And at the very top of most all bakeries in Chicago for decorated wedding cakes.

Good fresh baked pastries and bread, all at insanely cheap prices. The chocolate donuts, french bread, chocolate eclairs, and croissants are all top notch. Even the wheat bread is great and you can place orders for the next morning, how awesome is that? Show up early since the best stuff doesn’t last long as I believe they open at about 4 or 5 am. Will try a birthday cake from them one day as they have a great custom selection and the best prices anywhere.

Old school Bakery with back in time prices. The highs here are the doughnuts, very fresh for the most part, custard filled with chocolate glaze has a nice crispy bottom and is chock full with custard. The cinnamon twist is also slightly crispy yet tender with a slight chew, very nice doughnut. Sweet rolls here can be hit or miss, they will leave some out past their prime, and they tend to be a little sweet for some of my friends tastes. The better ones are the custard and the raspberry. If you get there early enough the muffins are good as well. The coffee cakes are basically the same dough from the sweet rolls and glazes, so they also tend to be a little on the sweet side, if you really like sweet these are for you, the coffee cakes have been always fresh in my experiences, my favorite being either the apple strudel or the pecan. A sweet roll and a coffee(quite average cup a joe) will set you back $ 2.04! Thats a large coffee, same with a doughnut, they used to run a special small coffee and doughnut $ 1.69 but that has gone the way of the typewriter. The cakes are good, order ahead of course. The case changes depending on seasons and what is being ordered, I really enjoy the eclairs and the German chocolate cake. I don’t think this is the best bakery on the south side, but it is very close to my home, and for the price you can’t beat it. The 7 eleven up the road has cattle coming and going all morning long paying nearly $ 4 a pop for a coffee and a roll. Why give your cash to the corporate monster when you don’t have too.

They baked my wedding cake and OMG it was moist and delish! I will order them for my anniversary also, they are a bit out of the way for me, but worth the visit. Customer Service is tops as well!
