very friendly employees, a great selection of beautiful-looking pastries and breads, and excellent prices – but everything i’ve had here, from the donuts and cupcakes to the empanadas and sweet breads, tastes several days old and can’t palated w/o a glass of water or milk

Don’t particularly like the bread at this place. Doesn’t seem as fresh or tasty whatsoever. Also there isn’t much of a selection. If you want a real selection of delicious, fresh mexican bread, try La Central on 47th… that’s the only place I go to.

They got these crunchy, burnt sugary, disk-like pastry thingies here, and dang, they’re good! The pizza slices ain’t bad for $ 1, either. Nice folks, too.

This place is definitely overshadowed by the big fancy bakery next door. No I’m not going to name drop, but if you know where this is, you probably had to look past the glare of the neighbor bakery. Speaking Spanish will help you get an ‘in’ here. Grab a pizza pan and a set of tongs from the front and have at it. There’s a pretty big assortment of pastries and baked goods and breads and all that jazz. If you’re feeling adventurous its kind of awesome to mill around and just pick out what looks pretty. Look for the pastries in the cooler that are made into SWANS and also the delicious looking strawberry items there too. My only complaint is that one of the items I picked was some kind of coconut covered red(raspberry?) cream. circle thing. For some reason the red raspberry on it tasted kind of like liquid smoke!!! I couldn’t shake that taste and it was a little haunting. Skip the liquid smoke pastry, and dig in on the rest.
