I believe I had a similar experience as E.G. I’ve only had 1 filling in my life. He told me I needed 5 fillings and that my first filing needed replacing. Luckily I trusted my instinct and turned down the 5 fillings. Regrettably, I allowed him to replace the filling since I had some sensitivity to cold on that tooth a few months ago.
He did two things I didn’t like. Without telling me first, he began filing down other teeth to correct my bite, and now my bite feels a bit weird. He also injected a fluoride patch without telling me first. While I believe he had good intentions to avoid infection, I do not want heavy metals in my body.
Now the sensitivity to cold is back since immediately leaving his office. I can only hope it’s from inflamed nerves from the work and I hope it goes back to normal in a couple of weeks. But he did drilling to remove the first filling and he might have removed too much pulp.
I really wish I could go back into time and not go there at all. I will feel differently if the pain goes away, but for now I feel the 3 year old filling was just fine and had no pain and should have left it alone. Just seemed like unnecessary work to me.
And it all seemed rushed/​forced, like they were trying to sell to me. He also mentioned the possibility of a root canal.
That being said, I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because the woman who did the cleaning was good, and the staff is friendly and the office is very nice. The have TV’s above the chairs to keep you entertained during procedures, which is very considerate.
But in general, I went in for a routine cleaning and inspection and left not looking forward to eating/​drinking. It still hurts.
If the pain goes away I will edit this post. But for now I cannot recommend this place. I wish I had read the reviews before going.

By far the most MONEY HUNGRY DENTIST i’ve ever been to. My hometown dentist discovered a cavity during a routine cleaning. Since I now live in Chicago I was unable to schedule the filling with my dentist and was referred to KS by someone at work.
When I arrived a few days later with a script from my dentist for the exact tooth that needed to be filled, Dr. Anast tried to convince me that I had 6 ADDITIONAL CAVITIES. After telling him and his assistant that I just wanted the one filled. He continued to pressure me, stating that if I didn’t get the other 6 filled I would eventually need a root canal.
After declining again, he sent another assistant in to discuss «payment options» for all the fillings and different ways they could «work with my insurance». Even trying to barter down to «just let us fill the one next to the one you want filled, it will be painless since you’ll already be numb»
Dr. Anast must be up to his eyeballs in debt or something because he is definitely hard up for money. DON’T LET HIM CHEAT YOU OUT OF YOURS!

First red flag, the place is called Kimberly Smiles and there’s no one named Kimberly that works there. If you’re wondering why it’s because the business was so terrible she sold it and moved to California. I came here several years ago for invisalign treatment. Spent $ 5,000 and half-​way in I went home and showed my sister (who also had invisalign) my trays and she quickly informed me that what I had was NOT invisialign. Talk about bait and switch! Kimberly Smiles had sold me invisalign and was instead using an in house operation to make my trays! My second story is on behalf of my husband. His story is like many others. He came in and was told he had several cavities. In a moment of panic he had them filled and was also talked into some BS deep clean procedure. Walking out spending thousands of dollars. Big mistake! Bottom line DO NOT GO HERE! Everything about Kimberly smiles is seriously a joke!

I received a coupon in the mail for the opalescence whitening and was able to get an appointment the day after I called. I also need a couple of implants (teeth not boobs) and was given a detailed treatment plan… mucho deniro… but seems to be an average cost. There is no high pressure sell at all, just what I need to get done with what insurance would cover and options for the rest. Office is very clean and even tvs above you in the chair (communist cast. but that’s a personal matter :) The whole front staff is so nice and Doc was cool and made me feel comfortable. Not a bad thing to say!

I have been a returning patient to Kimberly Smiles since August 2013 (ish) and consider Dr. Anast my dentist. He has professionally treated me for Invisalign, cavities, cleanings and a tooth extraction. Going to the dentist can be a nervous thing. Trusting someone with your teeth can be a nervous thing. I appreciate that before anything is done all the terms are established; fiscally and process wise. If you have a cavity, he will show you on the big screen where and why you need treatment, etc.

Do NOT get work done here. I went here about two years ago for a routine teeth cleaning. Dr. Anast told me I had five cavities. I thought that sounded like a lot and after reading the other reviews, I wish I would have gotten a second opinion before letting him do the work. He ended up filling all five teeth. I had to go back several times because the teeth were uneven and painful. I subsequently needed a root canal on one of the teeth he worked on. Still, dumb enough, I went back to dr. Anast for the root canal. Needless to say, the tooth still kills, the cap doesn’t fit correctly and I am going to another dentist.
I gave dr. Anast more than enough chances and he failed every time. Now I’m left new problems to deal with. Do not go here.
Only good thing is the staff was very nice.

Yesterday Dr. Anast extracted four of my wisdom teeth, two from the top and two from the bottom. I went in nervous (for obvious reason), but left 1 000 000% satisfied. The procedure was quick and as painless as it could be. The sound is honestly the scariest part of the whole procedure.
Before Bed I chewed on gauze pads to stop the bleeding, which was minor, and then took the required medicine and went to bed. I didn’t lose any sleep and woke up with only minor soreness.
I am not even 24 hours out of the procedure and can already feel the reduced pressure on my jaw. I am extremely satisfied with my most recent visit and look forward to my appointment (invisaline).

Very impressed overall. I’ve been here several times now and can only say good things about Dr. Anast and his staff. The receptionists out front are very friendly and helpful… you also get a friendly reminder a few days before your appointment, which I’m glad they did because I had booked an appointment once after a previous one and would have missed it otherwise! The hygienist is very friendly and efficient with her work. I hate it when they prod and dig at your teeth forever (which is probably your own fault anyway), but it’s never felt that way here. One of my favorite parts is the TVs directly overhead that you can watch while they do their work. The location is great, too… in bucktown and close to the el. Lastly, Dr. Anast has been great… every time he’s been very thorough in his work, and very helpful in explaining what exactly is going on. I’ve had the random cavity filled here or there, but one time I was really appreciative when he was able to save me from having a more major procedure like a crown or root canal and was able to do fillings which saved me a lot of time and money. He could have easily just made me have a root canal or something but he didn’t, and after that and the other experiences, I definitely trust him for good dental work and advice going forward.

«dr.» anASSt’s office continues to call me to make an appointment with him. They will not leave me alone. I had to ask them to stop calling, because I do not want to see him ever again. They just don’t know when to stop. These are horrible people. Avoid them at all costs.

First things first: After a sub par cleaning, Dr. Paul Anast (identifiable by his abrupt, patronizing bedside manner) told me very insensitively that I had 6 cavities. This obviously upset me, to which he responded «well it could be worse, I could be saying you have to have a root canal or something. Am I not helping?»
I sought a second opinion and learned via x rays and a detailed explanation of how cavities work that I in fact only had one cavity. ONE. Had I really considered letting Mr. «Am I Not Helping» drill into 5 extra teeth for no reason and an additional $ 400+?
He also saw some sealants on my teeth (I got them as a kid to protect my deeply grooved molars), referred to them as fillings, and when I said I’d never had a filling, he looked down at me and said «uh, yeah, your mouth is full of fillings.» By the way, turns out those additional 5 nonexistent cavities were just sealant stains.
Further: The assistant who did my X rays seemed to have never done an X ray before, kept jabbing me with the films and was terrible at making conversation, no one offered to let me change the television right above my face (I would have had to close my eyes to not be forced to watch the golf channel), and the woman who oversaw the one who couldn’t X ray was even colder to me than the doctor.
The only good thing about this place is the friendly desk staff. I’d trust them to spot a cavity before Mr. Anast.

I would not recommend Kimberly Smiles. I never had any issues with my teeth prior to visiting here. It’s difficult to make a direct correlation on whether or not my root canal was due to a the redoing of one of my cavity fillings from childhood… but I think it may have been an unnecessary procedure and later resulted in a root canal (and I am under 30 yo). I’ve had only 2 cavities in my life when I was a kid… and take really good care of my teeth. It was surprising for me to come into Kimberly Smiles and be told I needed to have my original fillings redone and had two new cavities… wish I would have gotten a second opinion. Just be cautious.

If I could give them negative stars, I would. The dentist said that both my husband and I needed multiple cavities filled and fillings fixed, along with some crazy, intensive gum cleaning. We were very suprised as we both have excellent dental hygiene. My husband believed them and after undergoing multiple appts, he was supposedly fine. He also had quite the hefty bill. They also tried to sell him on all of these «extras», which of course would be $$$$.
I got a second opinion from a new dentist, who said my teeth are perfect, as I expected. I have no doubt they did all this extra work on my husband, and he did not need it at all. We ended up spending hundreds of dollars there on my husbands teeth, and I KNOW it was a complete waste.
We’ve since moved out of the area, and two years later, I still have perfect teeth. The reason for this review is that in addition to the craziness with my husbands teeth, we can’t seem to get off Kimberly Smiles contact list. They call, email, and text us multiple times each quarter about discounts on teeth cleaning and other service. We ask each time to be removed from their list, but THEY KEEP CALLING! Leave us alone already!
They recently called and said that we never paid my husbands bill in full. What?! We never had an oustanding bill with anyone. Also, why is this coming up now, TWO YEARS later?!
Anyway, long story short, please don’t go to this place. I don’t know who Kimberly is, but she’s running one hell of a crooked operation. We’re writing to the Better Business Bureau next.

I was charged a large amount of money and was told I had 4 cavities (I had never had one in my life up until this point). She charged such a large amount for the cavaties and then tried to sell me on professional photos and some other extra charges. I finally had to tell her and her office I just wanted a cleaning so please stop asking me for more.
Weeks after I had my cavities filled, my tooth hurt so I wanted to make sure everything was okay. She looked at the tooth, said it was okay, and then charged my insurance $ 88 for another check up. They up charge, try to oversell, and call/​text/​email too much. BEWARE!

I got a Groupon for Kimberly Smiles for a «Zoom» teeth whitening. It’s not a Zoom laser, but I can’t remember the name of it. It’s a nice clean place and the technicians are very friendly.
It is an uncomfortable procedure, but it helped that I got to watch Law and Order and Ice Loves Coco the whole time. It takes about an hour.
The only awkward part was when the dentist came in. I don’t know his name, but he came kind of swarmy and I would probably never make an appointment for dental work from him.
Other than that it was a fine experience.

The folks at Kimberly smiles were great :) the dental hygienist did a terrific job with my X-​rays and cleaning and the dentist was helpful and nice during my exam. I found my new favorite dental place !

So, I don’t typically write reviews on dentists, but when I came into the office I was impressed. Everyone was super nice and helpful. They handled my insurance billing really easily it seemed (it has always been a hassle in the past).
The appointment went well too! I entered my chair only to be greeted by a flat screen tv when I looked up. The hygienist handed me the remote control, so I gladly flipped over to ESPN, and the rest of the appointment was a breeze. I think I had a cavity or two, but I don’t remember, since I was enjoying my time watching sports, I don’t remember being in any type of pain or anything. Everyone was very impressed with the cleaning, and I have received many compliments from friends about how clean my teeth were. They made me a teeth whitening tray too!
I’ve been back and apparently they do botox as well. I’m not usually big on cosmetic stuff, but I do have a few wrinkles I’d like to improve. Next time I go in, I’m definitely getting the Botox.

I had an appointment here for the first time last week. The office itself is super nice and the staff really made me feel comfortable. Dr. Anast is amazing ! He was so easy to talk to and professional. I had a lot of questions about cosmetic stuff (like bleaching and Botox) and he took the time to explain everything to me. I ended up having to get a small cavity filled and it was super quick and painless. I will definitely be back and will recommend him to everyone I know !

Here, I don’t actually dread going to the dentist. Love how there are TVs above every dentist chair, so you aren’t just sitting there bored with your mouth open, staring up at the ceiling.
I went 25 years without getting a cavity and initially freaked out when I found out I had one. But, getting it filled was the best experience it could possible be. Dr. Anast is very knowledgable and made me feel really comfortable about the whole process. I felt extremely confident in his ability. And my biggest fear of having shiny metal bling in my mouth didn’t happen. You can’t even tell I had a cavity or got a filling, which is HUGE to me.
Highly recommend Dr. Anast and Kimberly Smiles.

I really don’t like going to the dentist, its just really uncomfortable and awkward especially when you have to get cavities filled. However, Dr. Anast is good at making me feel comfortable and not guilty about the cavities I have. In addition, he was quick to get me right back in to get them filled as quickly as possible but also lets me choose how much my mouth can handle per visit (I have a lot of cavaties I need filled). The office is great, really nice staff, front receptionist is a dolln and he is a really great doctor, def. suggest Dr. Anast to anyone.
Also, this place is still open just new ownership!

I had my permanent retainer wire break off a tooth and I just came in because this was the closest dentist nearby. I really liked how everyone was super nice and made me feel comfortable even though I didnt have an appointment or anything. Dr. Anast made sure everything was okay quickly. I will definitley keep them in mind for next time I need to see a dentist. good people, good atmospher, and a personable doctor.
