Recently, Katie Basil photographed my six month old son and our family. I was very specific in the type of shoot I wanted and Katie nailed it! From scouting out a perfect location, to recommendations on clothing/​accessories and the entire resulting gallery. I would highly recommend Katie if you are looking for a flexible, flawless and cost effective photographer.

Katie was wonderful! She was prompt, friendly, and creative. She was great with our slightly grumpy 3 month old. She made my husband and I feel at ease and the photos turned out beautifully! She was a true professional who we will work with again and again as our son gets older.

Katie Basil photographed my son’s rehearsal dinner at The Public House in Chicago last month. She did an amazing job! Her images told the «story» of the event with freshness and originality. They were hip without being mannered or precious. She got some absolutely extraordinary shots that moved me to tears. What an eye! I had considered being lazy and just using the photo team hired by the bride’s parents. I’m so glad I went in another direction. I’d hire Katie again in a second. In fact, when I have grandbabies, I’d love to have her photograph them.

We’ve hired Katie for two photo shoots now – first a big family photo shoot for my mom’s 60^th birthday and most recently a newborn shoot. We could not be more thrilled with how the photos for each session turned out. The big family shoot covered 11 people (including 3 young children), which would be a lot for anyone to corral, but Katie made it both easy and fun. The photos she delivered were a perfect mix of stunning candids and full family shots that everyone was happy with and several of these photos have made their way into prime spots on the wall in each of our houses.
We just did newborn photos with Katie for our first, and they are all incredible! I have no idea how we’ll ever decide which ones to frame because each photo she took of our son and us with him was more stunning than the last. One of our friends commented that they belonged in a magazine and I couldn’t agree more. That’s entirely to Katie’s credit for making us look so good! Katie took newborn photos in a hospital toward the beginning of her photography career, and her long history with this shows. She was so kind, gentle, and patient with our little guy during the shoot, and made sure she didn’t leave without capturing all of the key pictures we’d had in mind.
I heartily recommend Katie for any photography needs. Her photos are superb and delivered on time, and she makes it easy to order professional copies or print your own. We have recommended her to family and friends without hesitation. I look forward to reaching out to Katie again next time we need our family photos updated!

I used Katie for my wedding and she did an amazing job. She really gave us everything we wanted and more. She is easy to work with, personable and she worked with our budget. I can’t say enough good things about Katie. She’s everything you want in a photographer. She is kind, patient, flexible and super amazing at what she does. She did our wedding photography at Greenhouse Loft in September 2013. She also did our rehearsal dinner photos. She was able to capture the moment beautifully and her second shooter, Lindsay, was also amazing. When we got our photos back, she provided us with a very easy login and downloadable file. She must have went through thousands of photos and she picked out the absolute gems.
I highly recommend hiring them for any event, be it wedding, couple shoot, family photo shoot, anything. All of her work is fantastic. Katie is hands down the best!

Katie took our engagement photos a few weeks ago and we couldn’t be happier that we chose her to take them. She made us feel so comfortable and we had more fun than we thought (I tend to shy away from the camera). When we got our photos, we were absolutely elated at how spectacular they look. Katie Basil Photography is outstanding! We received a recommendation from a friend to contact Katie for a newborn photoshoot. I am so glad we reached out to her, as Katie did a phenomenal job from start to finish.
First off, Katie’s correspondence via email and phone was prompt and professional, and she answered my 800 questions thoroughly and with much patience. On the day of, Katie arrived quite prepared with props, and just an overall great demeanor. This photoshoot involved a 9-​day-​old baby, and a few pics of some additional family members, so I was worried about timing and how it would go. Katie made these worries go away immediately saying she understands that newborns can take a little while longer and that she was here to help. Our little guy was a bit fussy at first, so Katie helped calm him and also waited patiently while we quickly got him a small bottle to relax him. Then the photoshoot commenced and Katie knew exactly what to do. The shots she took were beautiful and our son looked adorable. She did a great job with our family shots, as well. We had a few family members visiting from out of town, so she was able to quickly capture a few photos of them and our baby, too. Katie just went above and beyond, and our photos turned out great. She had them ready for viewing in less than two weeks, which was fantastic. I would highly recommend Katie for your photography needs! Thanks Katie!

We hired Katie this fall to shoot our wedding weekend (it was a time-​intensive, bridezilla-​without-​a-​bride, 2 day event) and can not begin to express how happy we are, on multiple levels. As anyone planning a wedding knows, it can be an extraordinarily stressful process culminating in a few short hours that go by too quickly. Katie’s pictures serve as the perfect summation reminding us of how much fun we had.
About a month before the date Katie set up time to talk about the weekend, get a sense for what we wanted and make sure she was prepared. A friend of ours offered to shoot our wedding for us as a gift (very generous-​and we accepted, but wanted to have another eye to capture the day)…and Katie also spent time coordinating with him to ensure they could complement each other. I felt so comfortable with the event in her hands.
On the day of the wedding, Katie was early and ready to shoot… and had actually already started shooting. Guests loved her-​she had a great ability to organize people so as to be efficient but not pushy (that’s a delicate balance to strike).
…and during the entire weekend, she went above and beyond… if I had the budget, I would pay her a second time for all of the hard work.
A few weeks after the wedding we received the pictures and we were beyond happy. She was able to capture all that was sweet/​fun/​loving/​hilarious/​beautiful about the weekend. She shot outdoors at Belmont Harbor on a rainy afternoon and it looked beautiful. She shot aboard an 83 ft. boat and used the city as a spectacular backdrop for family photos. She captured so many little details at the Chicago Yacht Club that looking through the album, we felt like we were there again. And the next day, at our reception at A New Leaf: all I can say is amazing. She captured the energy of the event in all its ebbs and flows. Tears in my sister’s eyes as she toasted balanced with my red face during my best man’s roast, er toast. Sweet moments during our first dance followed by the energy of the dance floor during Like a Prayer (it was a big gay wedding after all). She worked the hell out of the space using the exposed brick and flowers as delicate accents to photographs of our guests.
In all, we couldn’t be happier we chose Katie Basil as our Photographer. She put her heart into capturing our wedding and it shows in the pictures. Thanks Katie!
