Jupiter Outpost Cafe

I’ve been coming here for a few years now and it is one of my favorite coffee shops. The building itself it very cool and located on a old block on Fulton St. The art inside is constantly changing and there is lots of room for sitting. They have a decent selection of food, drinks and snacks. There is also a cute turtle that I’ve named Pluto that is always happy to see you. The only issue I ever have here is there is a cc minimum. This makes me go other places when I only want just a drink and can’t meet the minimum. Besides that I enjoy coming here.

Sandwiches and coffee are ok, I like their chicken Panini’s, the place def has a hipster vibe, a little too pricey for my taste. I’ve gotten better food and coffee in nicer areas, at a cheaper price.

I’ve had some great things off the menu and some not so great items. Overall pretty cute place to grab some lunch, I would say they need more ventilation in the restaurant though. We left smelling like a grill, it gets too stuffy in there.

I get coffee here a few times a week since it’s so close and it never disappoints. Also, I have tried most of their most of their vegetarian options and they’re delicious. Most notably the hummus and veg sandwich. I’m really glad this place is so close to work!

Excellent pricing, kind and thoughtful customer service, hit and miss on food, common with a few fave dessert.
BREAKFAST — thank you for keeping it below $ 10 range ($ 3-​$ 6). It’s a good simple familiar selections.
LUNCH /​SANDWICHES — bravo on the Beet Goes On. Specials on the board. Comes with pasta salad, potato salad, or fresh fruit. Combo of soup and sandwich available.
COFFEE BEANS — Passion House (local, down the street) for light roast coffee. Umbria for expresso drinks. As for drink selections, it’s ordinary and commonly flavored by Monin Syrups.
HARVEST SQUARES — my new fave. Sweet potato with a drop of cream cheese frosting.
POTATO SALAD — mustardy, good portion as a side.
BEER AND CHEESE SOUP — feels like the entire keg was poured with the entire Wisconsin cheese. Can be overwhelming.
CHILI — I wasn’t difficult to persuade to try Veggie Chili. Slight tang and chili hotness. I am VERY happy with my first veggie chili. SOLD OUT by 2:00 pm.
SERVICE — excellent and superbly thoughtful. When Wifi was down, customers were warned before placing an order/​purchase.
CLEANUP — impressive. Tables are immediately wiped as customer leaves. No crumbs/​specks on tables.

Great open, old-​building vibe in a quiet neck of town. Service was friendly and welcoming. Serves Stash brand tea, large or small cups only (no pots) and glad to provide free hot water refills. I haven’t tried anything else, yet. Free, unprotected wi-​fi and outlets available at the inside tables. I was there for several hours on a Saturday, and it was not at all crowded. Super-​affordable breakfast and sandwich menu. Could use a bigger bike rack, but there are posts nearby. Will be coming back.

this is was a random find and i am so happy to have found it! we tried the Mediterranean panini and the goat cheese/​beats panini which were both amazing. They do need some spice but great sandwiches! I also recommend the black cherry italian soda!

I’ve been meaning to come here for a while, and finally got the opportunity while my niece was in town for the first time. I really like the ambiance here. It’s so chill whether you want to enjoy a coffee, sandwich, or both. It was the perfect day to sit inside but right next to the outside area and feel the breeze. I got the Market burrito with chorizo and it was pretty fantastic and filling. I got it with the pasta salad which I would barely consider a side, it’s more like a taste or a nibble and that would be my only complaint. It was also a bit slow, and I don’t think I would consider it that busy. They also ran out of the kale and potato salad side and only had 1 mushroom bisque left and it was only a quarter after 1pm. I have to admit that it’s a bit surprising for a Monday lunch hour. It is pretty good, and there might not be a ton of other options if you are working in the area. I loved hearing the barista tell everyone to have a successful Monday!

The lass behind the counter had a «Summer in Pain» shirt on. I hope I’m not in pain this summer (nor do I wish it for her), because last winter was already enough of a pain for the year. But the shirt did bring to mind a t-​shirt I once saw in NYC: «Ear piercing, with or without pain.» Talk about a promise of great customer service! I got great service at Jupiter Outpost, for sure.
I was here to have a little coffee and do a little writing, and it was perfect. I like the location of this place, in the middle of industrial nowhere, a destination rather than a place for non-​existent passersby to stumble upon, at least on a Saturday afternoon. The full front opens out to admit a nice summer breeze, and the high ceilings give the room the optimism of a reason to look up and around. There’s a world in here.
The lass was spinning some of my favorite «oldies,» Joy Division, New Order, The Cure. I didn’t hear any «Summer in Pain» during the visit; though Jimmy Whispers doesn’t exactly evoke pain to me anyway. Nor did the helpful woman behind the counter.

Great staff, food, drinks, and wifi. The inside is as Chicago as it gets with hardwood floors and exposed brick. Favorites are the market burrito (w/​chicken), marinated kale, and beer cheese soup. I’m here for lunch at least twice per week.

Decent atmosphere for a West Loop spot that is kind of out of the way. Very comfortable and inviting, with a lot of space to sit and stretch out. Coffee (didn’t knock my socks off, but it wasn’t bad. Latte was good, coffee itself was kind of bland/​tepid. Would definitely come here to eat a good sandwich and share a quiet conversation with someone though.

I’ve had great drinks here and some good food. They have baked goods and prepared items up front but I have yet to try any. Drinks have always been great and the prices aren’t too bad. The kitchen in the back makes some good sandwiches. Prices for that stuff is on par with other lunch places in the area. They’re pretty quick with the orders and very near my office. Which is both good and bad.
Love the people here! They make an iced dirty chai just how I like it.

I am so happy this place is a short walk from my condo! It is really cute, quaint and conveniently located next to Mars Gallery (planet love connection? I think so!). The coffee is delicious and super reasonable, especially compared to Glazed and Infused. The staff is super friendly and there is free wifi! What else could you want in a coffee shop?!

Nothing amazing but solid coffee! The space is a hybrid deli/​coffeeshop serving as a nice alternative to the otherwise impressive Restaurant Row on Fulton Market and Randolph Street.

I dig this place in a big way. I seriously enjoy the Puck and Smokestack sandwiches. The deserts are also great. Today I tried the strawberry crème pie. Never had it before and it was amazing. I usually get a Nanaimo bar and those are tasty, too. The décor is way cool and the staff are just the nicest people and efficient, too. Too many coffee shops have baristas that would rather be anywhere than behind the counter. Not here. These people are great.
Also, there’s a large turtle in back. Word.

Let me just say that this place is a 5 star establishment in many regards such as:
Food is excellent — you order at the back then pay at the coffee bar in the front. I’ve had lunch and breakfast sandwiches and they are always delicious. The canuck breakfast sandwich takes advantage of the flavors of the sriracha and there’s a nice plump egg with juicy sausage. I can’t remember the other sandwich I had here but it was a panini type thing and it was excellent as well.
Coffee is delicious, whether you’re a flavored latte, with specialty milk etc etc type or just want to go black. You can’t go wrong here.
other bonuses: Wi-​Fi is fast enough. The tables are wide enough to do work. Music is ambient and hipster. Good place to do work.
Do note though there are a few logistic annoyances that I wouldn’t necessarily deduct one point off for but include:
Lack of outlets, lack of parking outside, relatively dim-​lighting inside. So it’s kind of a toss-​up if people want to do major studying here it might not be that great…

Nice tall ceilings but the place gets really chilly in the winter. Wish they made some changes to make it cosier. Coffee was great and the sandwiches were decent too. Free WiFi available and there’s some booth areas if you are in a group. Free parking outside.

This is definitely in a sort of random location in the general west loop area, but it is a café with some cool outdoor seating and if you are into turtles… they have one in a tank that I think is actually a big too small if you ask me, hanging out in the back part of this café.
Décor wise it has an industrial feel and they serve food here too, with lots of pick up/​to go options including some kale salads and things that didn’t look too bad. We didn’t get to try any food during our trip here, just some of their coconut coffee special of the day which was a little too sweet for my tastes. The wifi works well here though for anyone who is a nerd like myself constantly trying to find new locations to work at. Although I did feel a little weird here hanging out with my laptop since it seemed more like a hang out and chat type of café to be honest. Some of the booths in the back part of the café are a little run down, so we sat in the front, but I think I would prefer to come here and just hang out with a cup of coffee if I was in this area again. The front walls/​doors open up also, so while the weather is nice, this place definitely has that going for them!

What a great, inviting coffee shop. The open door front is what drew me in and I’m glad I made the stop. Coffee is great and reasonably priced. Music is also a plus. The all together vibe will have me coming back.

Jupiter Outpost, for me, was a somewhat unusual experience. I think I liked the exterior of the place the most which doesn’t really say much. Located in the Fulton Market area (with all those fantastic restaurants, lounges, and of course local butchers/​dairies/​food distributors), I loved the outside of the building. Walking towards the café, I noticed all the brilliant colors of the doors and windows around. The industrial-​meets-​whimsical was a nice contrast to walk towards. Upon entering, you will notice very high ceilings and copious amounts of seating. To the left is the barista and in the back you can order food.
I came in for some caffeine, wifi, and a little morning zen time before I started the day. I dropped by around 9 just before a rush of people zoomed through the place. I must say, sitting up front, this place gets a lot of traffic! Perhaps it’s because there are few affordable café options around the neighborhood (minus La Colombe and Starbucks)? It seems like this spot attracts a lot of West Loop residents and frequent visitors who work in the vicinity. I don’t know if it was just this one day, but there were multiple entourages of Wrigleyville-​type «bros» hollering in and out of the café. That was a bit distracting. I don’t mind some noise, but mini-​scenes of «The Hangover» are a bit much to handle so early in the morning.
I ordered a pumpkin iced latte with the barista who was not very friendly. Yes, I know it’s the morning, but you could add just a smidge of warmth in your «hello» to connect with your customer (whom you wish would return). I made casual eye contact with her a couple more times and she looked at me like she was NOT havin’ it at 9 AM! I mean, I don’t wanna be up so early too but I know how to exchange pleasantries — and she works there! Anyway, the drink itself was good. Because she was the only barista, the drink took awhile to come out so don’t come here if you want to zip in and out in minutes. In fact, the line was 7 or 8 deep at one point and folks came in, saw the line, and popped back out.
If you want a place to work, however, this is a solid place. Again, there is ample seating, free wifi, and many outlets for electronics. They played classical music during my two hours there though I heard someone say this was a rarity since they often play classic rock. All in all, Jupiter isn’t a bad place per se… but it wasn’t a spot I felt I had this urge to visit again.
