Judge James A. Shapiro (ret.) sat on the bench for over five years, from 2007-12, hearing both civil and criminal cases. The Chicago Bar Association rated him «Highly Qualified,» its highest rating, stating he is «well-regarded for his fine demeanor, temperament, and work ethic.»
Judge Shapiro practiced law for more than 22 years before that. His extensive legal experience includes civil and criminal cases — both plaintiff and defendant, prosecution and defense, private and government practice, teaching law school, and serving as an Assistant United States Attorney. In 2007, his peers chose him as an «Illinois Super Lawyer.»
