History

Established in 2006.

Taking inspiration from fine art, photojournalism, and fashion photography, Joshua has developed a photographic style all his own. He is Chicago’s première headshot photographer and has been named one of Chicago’s top five wedding photographers.

«I want each image to be layered like a lotus flower,» says Joshua. «You may simply enjoy the photograph on the surface but there are many layers which give it depth.»

Joshua Albanese Photography was founded in 2006 and accepts appointments for local and destination weddings, headshots, commercial and fashion photography.

Chicago photographer Joshua Albanese is a stand out amongst his peers. Living and working by the motto «life’s too short to blend in» Joshua creates images that are more than pictures, they’re works of art.

Joshua studied his craft at Indiana University where he was deeply influenced by the masters of fine art landscape photography. «They don’t have a subject that moves and that gives them the time to compose a shot that isn’t only dependent upon a moment, but the geometry of the scene,» says Joshua.

I used Joshua to schedule professional head shots for my two colleagues last minute. Joshua was very responsive and helpful in getting 2 appointments scheduled last minute. He also accommodated our fast turn around time for the head shots. The head shots looked fantastic and he worked to make the touch-​ups how we wanted. Would definitely recommend and use again as it was a seamless process!

Joshua is in my opinion the most talented photographer in Chicago. We were lucky enough to have him do our wedding and my personal headshots. We keep our wedding book out on our coffee table and always get compliments on how cool his shots are. And the same thing goes for my headshot… I ALWAYS get complimented.
It amazes me to watch his photography over the past couple of years because he keeps getting more talented.

Like others, I spent a good amount of time researching Chicago photographers. Once I landed on Josh’s website, my decision was made. His talent is obvious, but what I appreciate the most is how personable Josh is. He made me feel 100% comfortable during the entire shoot.
I also opted to have my make up done which is an optional service that Josh schedules. Major props to Christine for an amazing makeup application.
Final versions of the headshots were provided in less than 2 days after proof approval.
All around just a fantastic experience! I would highly recommend Josh and Christine to anyone looking for headshots or pictures in general.

I had an amazing experience getting my actor’s headshots taken by Josh! I chose him because some of my friends have used him in the past, and they had nothing but positive things to say. Also, his work speaks for itself…
Josh was friendly and asked me some questions about my work and what I was hoping to achieve with my photos. I am a comedian with an upcoming solo show, and Josh helped me get some promo shots for the show, along with a couple traditional actor’s headshots (I did three wardrobe changes – glad for the versatility). I had so much fun, and both Josh and my makeup artist were friendly, professional, and did a fantastic job!
Once I selected my final photos, Josh had them edited and back to me in just a few days! I highly, highly recommend Joshua Albanese Photography.

I spent hours looking through several photographers’ web sites in Chicago. I just sat and absorbed the actors’ head shots. I’m usually not a hippie crunchy person, but I tried to let the photos «speak» to me. Josh’s photos stood out by a landslide over the competition.
Unlike some other head shot photographers, he has a lot of experience in the acting industry – so he knows exactly what kind of shot casting directors are looking for.
He finds a way to make everyone look good but still real. You can tell each picture was edited to painstaking detail. Every actor looks like they’re staring into your soul. And they look so confident, like they’re ready to co-​star with Leonardo DiCaprio in the next blockbuster! .I have already spent way too much time on his web site just looking at his work…
Even the layout of his web site is better than everyone else’s. His site is clean, easy to navigate, and simple yet sophisticated. Other photographers’ web sites have little sloppy details like the generic name of the photo revealed «DSC_​_​0011» when you click on the photo to see a high-​resolution shot of it. But not him! He is a meticulous perfectionist.
Even though he comes off laid back and chill, he is secretly very Type A and is so professional and so reliable.
–He responded to all of my emails within 30 minutes, even late in the evening!
–He sends emails with detailed directions on what to bring and how to prepare. And he still answered my last minute questions in multiple emails the day before the shoot.
–His studio is clean, well-​maintained, and is in a convenient location (downtown).
–He uses a payment portal, so it is easy to pay him.
–His turnaround time is incredibly fast; my (un-​edited) pictures were available online the same day of my shoot (My session was in the morning though.). And he finished editing my photos in 2 days!
–Most importantly, he is a genuinely nice person.

While results are clearly shown in the quality of his work, there is something to be said for bedside manner. Josh is affable, laid back, and will make your shoot a breeze.
I went in for a corporate headshot and the experience was efficient but not at all rushed. Josh helped me narrow down some basic wardrobe options and reduced what would have been an overwhelming amount of pictures. I had a high quality, retouched headshot back within a week and am very happy with the results.

I have a friend who is a photographer. He did all my shots since the beginning of my acting career. My friend recently moved out to New York to keep shooting and I was in need of new head shots. I asked him who I should go to and before I could finish my sentence he cut me off and said «You need to go speak with Joshua Albanese.» I trusted his judgment and followed up with him.
From the very beginning Joshua was nothing but professional. He discussed pricing with me along with dates and times that would work best for both of us. Once I got to his studio it was never stressful or uncomfortable. The studio was beautiful and we got to discuss how he got his start and his passion for Richard Avadon. The whole shoot was fun and professional and we were able to bounce ideas off one another and see what else we could get out of what we were trying to do. If you’re looking for someone who has the ability to share your vision of what you’re trying to achieve, Joshua is the absolute tops.

My husband & I utilized Joshua Albanese for our engagement photos and wedding in Chicago this past summer. Both of my sisters were previously married in Chicago & I failed to use either of those photographers because the photos did not live up to my standards. I am extremely picky when it comes to photography and I feel this is the most important wedding vendor, as all that remains post wedding is the photography.
I chose Joshua because it was obvious based on his portfolio that he is extremely talented, creative, and provides only high quality shots. I was pleasantly surprised upon meeting him that he was just as personable as he was a talented photographer. It is extremely important that my husband and I felt comfortable with the team, in order for photos to turn out natural and uninhibited. It was very easy to feel comfortable around Joshua and confident in his ability.
Throughout our wedding the photography team was seamless & professional. Upon receiving our photos they were just as spectacular as we expected. Every picture was high quality & no key moments went uncaptured. If you have high standards & believe photography is one of the single most important elements of your wedding, do yourself a favor and hire Joshua Albanese, he will not disappoint.

Joshua is fantastic. I’m an actor in town and got new headshots with him a few weeks ago. Having never met him before, I did a consult to get an idea of his personality (which is extremely friendly and open), and his philosophy of collaboration is what sold me. I’ve been on plenty of shoots with some very good photographers, but I’ve always felt I had to sacrifice some of my personality to get a proper «commercial» look, and have almost always grown tired of my headshots after about 6mos.
Joshua takes a directorial approach, and talked me through some emotions (happy, serious, etc), which I really appreciated. We also just conversed and joked around, which he shot as well. It made for a more genuine photo, a fun experience, and I wasn’t left feeling like I was trying to entertain myself. Every so often we’d stop and look at what he’d gotten so far, so I could let him know if I wanted to change anything.
Overall, it was really a great experience, and I definitely had the hardest time picking my final images here of any other shoot.
** Note 1: You can pay with a credit card, but if you hire a make-​up artist, you will need to pay them in cash.
** Note 2: To the young lady who was offended at the idea of doing a «young mom» shot — that is the majority of commercial work that comes through Chicago for women. You weren’t being given bad advice.
