John’s Computer Tune-up

I have reviewed John before, not sure why my two rave reviews are not showing.
I don’t live in Chicago any more and had a recent issue with my computer. Worried about having to find a new computer guy I called John and was glad to find out that he is able to log on to my computer remotely via the internet. As usual he was very effective in solving all my problems. Thanks, John!

John has been fixing all my computer problems for about 6 years now. I would not trust my computer to anybody else. I have recommended him to all of my friends, and they are very happy with all his services.
The best part is you don’t have to leave your home or lug your computer anywhere.

John is awesome. Seriously, if you have any type of computer issues or problems, call him. He’s honest and fair to the point I would trust and recommend to him to family. Lemme explain…
I admit I’m something of a girl geek. I kinda live online (as my husband will attest to) and yeah, I’m one of those people who gets nervous when I don’t have computer access for a few hours.
Basically, I’ve learned how to do most computery «things» myself out of necessity which means somehow now I’ve become the one our family and friends all come to when they have a virus, a trojan, a «slow» computer, software questions, want to set up a router or a network, need help setting up a new computer, P2P programs, etc, etc.
Anyway when I woke up today and one of my computers wouldn’t start I was pretty sure it was the power supply (and saying prayers that it wasn’t the mobo). I’ve built computers, but it’s been a while. I looked inside, made sure it wasn’t the power cord, the surge protector, the outlet, any dust, etc and that all the connections were tight. They were. And then I looked at my PS to see what I would need. That’s when I noticed I was in trouble. I couldn’t get in to disconnect the PS to bring it with me because of this computer’s wacky set up. I literally couldn’t get my hand in there to disconnect things.
Okay, so I needed help. And this was beyond dork squad plug in a modem or delete a virus help. This was possibly take this whole sucker apart and remember where everything went help. No way do I have time to do all that.
I tried a few places by phone. Most said it would take them 2 – 4 days before diagnostics could be run and several said oh, it’s going to be your motherboard (and the estimates for a new one? Over $ 600 for parts alone plus labor and 5+ WEEKS!). One even said power supplies rarely fail (which is just such bs!).
So, trying not to panic, I checked Unilocal.And John’s name popped up. Thank goodness it did. John called me back within an hour, listened while I explained what was going on, and said he had a new ps for me. He said it would take about 30 minutes to put in and he had some time that very night. Sweet!
And as if I wasn’t hooked? His price! One place’s diagnostic was $ 199 and I had to haul it there, leave it, and then lug it back. Not good if something doesn’t work when you get home. John’s quote for labor AND the new PS was way less.
But wait, it gets better! I couldn’t resist. I went to microcenter myself before John came over. I had to return something small but while there, I bought a new PS. It was on sale. It was a brand I like. It was less than at newegg. It’s a powersaving model. I couldn’t help myself!
I called John, told him, and having dealt with shady characters before (ever try telling a plumber or a car mechanic you bought your own parts?!) I said if he thought the one he was bringing me was better we could still use his. He was totally cool about using mine. Even said I bought a good one *g*
He arrived in the time he quoted, ready to get to work. Somehow, he was able to get in that tiny space and hook everything up. It was not easy, but he did everything with a smile and even stayed to make sure it was up and running (it needed to be tightened and rebooted a few times which if I was doing this would have driven me CRAZY! John has patience to spare!).
John even took a little time after it was up and running to see if I needed any system optimization. A very nice touch. And all he charged us even though he stayed longer than he quoted was the original labor fee. How many people do THAT?
But here is why John is awesome. Because if it turned out that besides needing a new ps, if it was my worst, most dreaded fear and this was a mobo problem? He said that he knew someone to help and would refund me.
Seriously? This guy rocks. No other computer guy is going to do that! And my computer? Juuuust fine with the new power supply.
I can’t recommend John strongly enough. And I’m going to. To all those family and friends I don’t have time to help. ;)

I have a love/​hate relationship with technology and there is nothing more frustrating than when technology is down when I’m trying to get work done. I work for an owner of a small business, and I was relieved to learn he had a «go to» tech guy when technology wasn’t cooperating. John is not only very responsive, but he’s thorough, reasonably priced and he offers useful tips that will keep things running smoothly. I highly recommend him.
