The lady was really nice, but the food wasn’t good. The macaroni was HORRIBLE !!! Idk maybe they were having a bad day because I see several people saying their food is good. If that’s the case they need to venture out to other Jamaican spots because this was the worst I’ve had.

The Jerk here is quite good! The service needs to get better though. The counter lady is always mad at something and she’s not courteous at all…

I always get the fried chicken and mac delivered. They cook it to order so it takes a while to get here but it’s always hot when it arrives. The chicken is way too good, and don’t forget to get extra jerk sauce because it’s out of this world. From order to delivery every experience has been above expectations. Great to have them in the neighborhood.

The food is typically quite delectable here, but today(Friday, March 15th, 2013) Jamaican Jerk Spice took nearly two hours to deliver from just 20 blocks away. This was a new low. I phoned the restaurant to ask about the delay, and status, and the woman who answered hung up the telephone in my face before I could finish the question(it was a near $ 50 order, plus a comfortable tip on my credit card). On top of that, they required me to come outside — in the rain — to retrieve the order from the driver still seated in his vehicle, instead of him bringing it in to our office lobby. This, they said was«policy» because it was the south side of Chicago. No apology, no expression that«we appreciate your business,» or «we’ll make good in some way» for the tardiness. The horrid service nullified how good the food might have been, and as business people they thought absolutely nothing of it. It’s quite a shame that black people so commonly treat their own in this way. Ronald E. Childs, Executive Editor, The Chicago Defender newspaper Chicago, IL

Loved the Jerk Chicken. The perfect amount of spiciness and tenderness in the half chicken that I got. Portions are huge in the meal too.

On a busy, open street. Clean restaurant. Free parking on the street in the front and side of the restaurant.

After having a so so jerk chicken experience at a party the day before, I told my girlfriend about it and we really wanted some good jerk chicken for our Friday night dinner. I had scoured the Unilocal pages for a good place in the chicago area but most of them weren’t really well rated. This one was! We decided this would be the place but because I was familiar with the neighborhood, we would get it to go :)(It’s in a shady neighborhood on the South side). Parking was extremely easy, we parked right in front. We ordered a half a chicken and a large beans and rice. Just like the previous reviewer said, we got a slice of bread(although 2 would have been better since we were 2 ppl) and extra sauce which happened to be one of the high points of the meal. We got home and opened up our find and although the half a chicken was small my opinion, the taste was unbelievably good and not dry at all(like the chicken I had the day before). It wasn’t too hot, just enough, and a bit tangy. With the extra sauce on the chicken and rice, it was deeeeelicious!!! On the restaurant itself, I had previously lived in the islands and as soon as you walk in, it has the look, feel, and smell, of a place down there, except there was the addition of bulletproof glass. :) The woman who took our order was nice and we got it in about 15 minutes. Just a tip perhaps, at least what we plan to do is order by phone as we are heading there in the future and then hopefully it will be ready for pickup. I’d say it’s a great place that seems to serve up delicious authentic food and compared to places that serve(not so good) jamaican jerk, I would wholeheartedly recommend this place over all others. For good food, come here and enjoy!

I was in the neighborhood so I went in based on the recommendations of other Unilocalers. My main interest was having some authentic jerk seasoning since I have never been able to figure out exactly what makes jerk, jerk. The only common denominator I have been able to find in the multitude of recipes I’ve looked at is habanero chilis. I ordered a quarter chicken. Man, that was cheap($ 4.13 including tax). It came with a slice of white bread and a small container of more sauce. Unlike other jerks, which are often green, this was very deep brown, as was the chicken. The chicken flavor and jerk flavor were both good, and although I’ve probably got this wrong, I think the predominant flavor may have been tamarin. The heat level was not as much as I would have expected for a habanero-based sauce, but still adequate to leave a pretty good after-burn in my mouth. Overall, I’m glad I made the trip and tried it out.

A complete diamond in the rough. This place is legit, straight from the hillsides of Kingston and planted into the heart of the South-side. The food is as authentically Jamaican as the owner/employees’ accents and their misplaced usage of articles. Their menu solely consists of 5 varieties of jerked meats from catfish to oxtail and a handful of sides. I’ve only had the jerk chicken and red-beans rice, but undoubtedly, the best jerk chicken I can remember having. The service matches the décor, faded, peeling wallpaper with the awesome contrast of lush green mountains and sun-kissed water displayed prominently on the many Air Jamaica posters. That is, don’t expect any service or a bathroom even, just a nice, lovely smile from one of the counter ladies when they hand you your food on a flimsy foam plate. Remember to smile back! You probably only paid $ 8 and will soon be very, very full.
