Hotel Indigo Chicago Downtown Gold Coast

Very nice hotel. Small rooms, which can be interpreted as cheap, but the design worked very well. I was genuinely impressed. Easy to control the room temp, the bed was cozy and the stand up shower had hot water. The rooms are quiet. The business center worked flawlessly as I needed to print some documents for a meeting.
Lots of nice restaurants within a 5 minute walk. I went to Gibson’s Steak for a huge hamburger.
And lots of drug stores close by; the drug stores have food also due to the number if people in the area.

We were a bit disappointed with this Hotel Indigo compared to ones in other cities. When you walk in the lobby, we were hit with an overpowering smell of fake air freshener, which made me physically ill. The room was small and there was only one packet of coffee for us. The bathroom felt dirty because the tub tile was dingy and poorly grouted.

Hotel made me feel like I was back in Florida. We did a «staycation» because we had a free room (we live in the ‘burbs of Chicago). Room was clean and spacious (I disagree with Charles S.‘s assessment of the size of the room, but maybe we had an upgrade because of our status). Only complaint about the room was the design of the shower stall which allowed water to get all over the floor. Bartender was friendly. The woman at the desk was clueless, however, as to the distance of the hotel to nearby Bloomingdale’s and Saks, saying you couldn’t walk there; it was a ten-​minute walk! Very close to nearby restaurants in a more residential neighborhood, so it was quiet. Used SpotHero to find parking and it took us to the hotel lot for $ 11 less! Granted, no in and out privileges, but we didn’t need it because we walked everywhere.

We enjoyed our stay but did not find the front desk staff to be helpful. And they would not take our parking payment, as suggested by the parking garage next door. Because of their refusal to do that, we ended up paying a lot more for parking. Nice hotel but need to work on customer service.

Super friendly staff. Very good little bar in the lobby every evening. Rooms are done in bright fun colors. Hotel is older but this is very reasonable for the neighborhood & area around it. Worth looking into for sure.

Unbelievable. Two years in a row this place has taken my online reservation, but somehow when I show up (last year) or call to confirm (this year) my reservation is not being honored. When I asked for a manager to call me back I never received a call. Then when I called I get options to change what I reserved to «lesser options» at a marginal discount. Yes, the location is very convenient and the rooms are cute, but this just isn’t worth the hassle or inconsistency. I don’t know about the other Unilocal readers but when I make a reservation I expect it to be honored. I even booked a room as back up and very distinctly selected the option for not pre-​paying but guess what, it’s a prepaid reservation so now I’m stuck. I don’t want others to be stuck. Avoid their online reservation process and just avoid a mediocre experience from the staff

The staff was kind and helpful, but I would not stay here again. Rooms were shabby, and mine had several broken items (flush handle on toilet, shower head clip, some of the blinds, printing services, etc.). The price was right, and it was just a room to sleep in. I did appreciate the free wifi!

Such a great hotel in an awesome location and the price was right! We got a group rate because we booked a room block about 5 months in advance. The staff was awesome, the hotel was very cute and had a fun European vibe, the room was bright, and did I mention the amazing location? We walked to the Lincoln Park Zoo, to the shores of Lake Michigan, and there is a fabulous farmer’s market on Saturdays that is just a block away. Cons: Could be cleaner and wish my room had a tub since I was traveling with my baby.

I am writing this review from the lobby because there are extremely strict on the 4pm check-​in time. Since its approximately 3:36pm, I must wait the required 24 minutes before I’m allowed in my room. I’d love to have a drink at the bar, however they don’t serve drinks until 5pm. I couldn’t be more unimpressed with the front desk service. They are completely uninterested in any sort of courteousness. It’s as if they are doing me a favor by allowing me to handover my money.

Clean, well-​appointed and a good value in a good neighborhood, near both the red line and high-​end establishments and neighborhoods.
The cons include a resentful staff, who can mostly paste on a smile anyway, and amenities such as the bar and restaurant pasted on as an afterthought. rather than a genuine concern of the management.

I am in Chicago for the Microsoft Ignite conference. Today I was barely able to pay attention during sessions due to itching caused by bed bug bites. When I reported the issue to the hotel they were kind enough to move me to another room. I told them when I would return and they assured me my things would be waiting for me when I got to the new room. That did not happen. I will now have a fitful 3 remaining nights at a hotel that didn’t impress me in the first place. There are far better hotels at far better prices in Chicago. While the hotel staff assured me they took the matter very seriously it doesn’t seem that way to me. I wouldn’t be surprised if they just shoved somebody else in that room.
The dark bedding material makes it hard to judge the cleanliness of the bedding materials or see evidence of a bed bug infestation. Knowing people in the hospitality industry I prefer light-​colored sheets that makes stains more obvious. All in all a hotel I would never stay at again and wish I hadn’t stayed at in the first place.

This is a very cool hotel! The rooms are small, but excellently appointed and very unique. They feel more like a bedroom in your home than a hotel room.
The lobby is nice and the bar and restaurant are clean and cool. The service is top notch and the location can’t be beaten!
Prices are a bit high, but certainly worth it.

Bright vibrant rooms with huge, comfortable beds. Mini Aveda products. Lovely desk staff. Hardly any prostitutes in the lobby. FUN location to go out and get blasted all night. Conveniently located near a Walgreens to pick up a morning after pill, if necessary. Fried chicken joint right around the corner. What more do u need?

Was in town on a business trip and got a great deal on Priceline for the week. Location is incredible, not too far from Red Line, bus lines, fun bars, great shopping and downtown overall. Staff was friendly, and bar served strong drinks.
Biggest cons I can think of: Décor made me feel like I was staying in an 8 year old gir’ls bedroom. Mattress wasn’t super comfortable. My window was perpetually open a crack no matter how hard I tried. Heater/​AC was slow to respond. Housekeeping did a good job cleaning the rooms, but I typically hoarde hotel toiletries in case I have guests and they only refilled if something was empty.
Would I say here again? Yes, especially at the price.

This hotel is an excellent value. The rooms are clean and bright. They upgraded me to one of their larger rooms upon check in.
The décor is very comfortable and chic. It has a bit of a beachy feel which is great because it’s 7 degrees today.
I was pleased to find great water pressure in the shower, tons of clean fresh towels.
I would definitely stay here again. It’s also very close über ride to Lou malnati’s pizza… which is amazing.

Stayed last year the day after Christmas (Dec 26, 2013) for my birthday with my BFF. We had a King room with a fireplace. It was perfect for two childhood friends to catch up, relax and be in a perfect location to find dinner and drinks. My only complaint was the noisy hallway traffic at 4:00 a.m. The rooms could have better sound proofing. The bathroom was smallish, but worked fine. Aveda products and nice towels, good water pressure.
Booked two King rooms this December 2014 for my birthday with my two adult daughters and that same BFF. Stay tuned.

The only reason I’m giving it a 3 is because of the prime location. It is located on such a charming block. Also, near the subway and any prime locations!
Other than location, I’d rate this place a 2. The bathroom is falling apart. The wallpaper is coming off and it had water stains in the ceiling.
The hotel room isn’t the cleanest. There is dust and hair piling up in the corners. The cleaning staff aren’t good either! They don’t leave enough towels, don’t replenish the soap or conditioner/​shampoo. What are we supposed to shower with?
Lastly, the bed is horrible. It is super hard and uncomfortable. You can feel the springs.

Cute little hotel! It’s a hop skip and jump away from the Clark/​Division red line station, and is near to a plethora of eateries and fine restaurants, also a Walgreens and 7 – 11 for the late night strollers. My room was pristine and comfy. The view was cute. The staff are friendly. My only qualm is that housekeeping came barging in at 9am. 9am! I put the DND sign out for the remainder of my stay. Also, the vending machines, massage rooms and fitness center are all located on the 2^nd floor (they failed to inform me of this upon checkin). Notwithstanding my qualms, I’ll definitely be back on my next stay in Chicago.

Nice location but they need to get an exterminator and have the air quality tested for mold. It was surprising how humid it was in this hotel, and I immediately smelled mildew when I walked in the room. Second morning, a centipede the size of a pencil graced us with its presence. The following night, 6 stink bugs. Alive. On my bed.
Front desk staff was pleasant and the neighborhood had lots of lovely nearby restaurants. Extra bonus is the Aveda skin and hair care products they provide. High quality and they smell delicious. Too bad it doesn’t double as a bug repellant.

What at great hotel! We stayed here for a mini vacation and we couldn’t be happier with the decision! Awesome location, clean and inviting rooms and a friendly staff! The room we stayed in is bright and has 2 bathrooms, that is always a plus when traveling with your boyfriend lol.
I’ll definitely be coming back for a lil get away. Highly recommend
