This place has the best wings in Chicago. They fry the wings then they grill them. This place makes BW3’s seem like amateur hour or McDonalds. Ranch tater tots are the bomb too! The only thing I could say negative is that they used to have unlimited .25 cent wing night once a week. I don’t think they have that deal anymore but the wings are worth it. I don’t know of any other place in Chicago that fries then grills their wings. The booze and other food is good too but the wings are why I will drive 30 minutes and battle bad parking to get here

Let’s talk about the bartender Jeremy… We came in for brunch on a Sunday and heard great things. We were the first people in so we expected that service would be pretty quick. The bartender acted as if we were in the wrong for coming in and sitting down. I understand having a bad day but throwing menus at customers, telling them that we can’t sit at a certain part of the bar bc he was reading the paper there, and never asking us for drinks kind of makes for a shi**y bartender. Thanks but no thanks High Dive.

This was a nice place to tuck my head into and grab a drink while I was in town and needed a drink. They were fairly quiet; it was a Wednesday night but being this close to downtown Chicago I thought it would be a little busier. The bartender was attentive but not very rehearsed in mixology and couldn’t recommend an off menu cocktail. All in all I got what I was looking for, though. Which was a quick drink before heading to my place to stay.

It’s not obvious when you walk in whether you should stand and wait to be seated or grab a table. The bartender just stood there and looked at us. We had to walk into the dining room and ask the waitress. The food wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either. I got a Cuban sandwich and it was over-toasted and dried out the meat. It didn’t have mustard(common ingredient for Cubans) and when I asked for some, I received a teenie, tiny portion. The beer selection is great though!

I held a private party here after meeting Aaron at the Cocktail Challenge. Aaron was incredibly accommodating and very detailed in his planning. My 20s murder mystery was a hit, and the era cocktails and room made it that much more authentic! I look forward to having another group here!

Service is excellent. They have some good specials. On Wed they have a shot of Jim Beam, a Miller Highlife, and 6 wings for $ 8. Really great wings. Top 5 in the city because they grill them after they fry them I think.

Only been here once but this place has really cool and chill vibes! I was there on a Sat afternoon, just grabbing a pint with the bf. What determines our future decision to come back is the food! OMG best deep fried pickles I’ve ever had! The batter is amazing, pickles are fried in wedges, so they’re chunky & so satisfying, much better than the little tiny pieces(which I thought I like, but I’m forever converted)! You gotta try it! It’s $ 7 but the portion is huge, perfect for 2 to share!

Sometimes I walk into bars to get drunk, other times I walk in to get away. Drunk was the mission at high dive and I succeeded. Win all the way !!! Killer wings by the way.

Underrated brunch, free pool one night of the week, kick ass bartenders, decent beer selection, maybe a touch on the pricey side, but overall I highly recommend checking it out. Seriously though, get the brunch on Saturday or Sunday morning. It really does rule.

Food quality is excellent. Sunday brunch is quick and quality, it seems like there always room to accommodate any size party. Good bloodies and all that. Bartenders and staff always friendly. Crowd can be a little sporty on a game night. I come here a lot and it has always been solid.

Poutine here comes with the choice of fries or tots. I went with the fries. They were perfectly acceptable fries, which went along with the perfectly acceptable gravy(if a little thick) and the perfectly acceptable cheese curds. Fine to order if you’re here anyway, but there’s better poutine within a mile or two.

I am in West town twice a week and usually frequent the usual bars up and down Chicago Ave. I’ve been to High Dive twice. Visit number one: Just met a friend for drinks, nothing fancy, good service, Liked the place. Visit 2: New Years Eve around 9:30PM. Had 8 friends over for dinner at friends apt down the street, then going out for some drinks. We were looking for a place that we could settle in and make an evening of it. We walked in and there was maybe 4 people in the place. We all walked in and went to the high tables on the left. Since we had 8 people we pushed 2 tables together. Then all hell broke loose. I understand bars frown on this, but we were not blocking any passageway or inhibiting the staff in any way. The manager behind the bar decided the best way to show his displeasure was to YELL at us from behind the bar. I looked around and thought that was strange, since you would think you would welcome a group of 8 into your empty bar to drop some coin, right? Wrong. These were not reserved or anything, and he said we can’t just come in and start moving tables around… we moved one table 12 inches… hardly re-arraging the entire place. He continued to lambaste us and said we can go in the other room. We looked in there and it was even more dead and dark, so we decided to leave and go somewhere else were they were happy to have us. On the way out, I said to the manager that there are several better ways to handle the situation.(I bartended for 12 years, and most of my friends are in the restaurant biz). None of this made any sense. I rarely speak up or complain. But this bothered me to no end. I WILL try this place out again. I want to like it. I understand people have bad days, but New Years Eve? Before anything has even started? Weak.

So last night decide to order food for take out for 4 of us. They say it will be 20 minutes. We show up in about 25. Foods not ready yet. Will be 10 more minutes. No big deal Bulls game is on. Get out food and head home. Get home and realize they forgot a someone’s food. We call back and let them know they forgot a Bacon Egg Burger and some Tots. They say it will be another 20 minutes. You think they could be a bit quicker but whatever. So we go back to pick up food. They apologize and we head home. Once we are home my friend opens his box and they forgot a top bun for his burger. I’ve never seen that before. Let down after hyped up this place to our friends.

High Dive is a solid neighborhood bar. We came here after a Hawks game with some friends, and pretty much ordered the entire menu. My favorite thing would have to be their wings, so be sure to get some while you’re here. However, I would not recommend their Tachos. There are way too many flavors happening with that dish, so I would just stick with their regular Tator Tots. I’ll definitely come back!

Their poblano bacon mac & cheese is AWESOME. They also have very tasty wings, which is what we usually eat when we go here. This last visit was a bit different so we tried the mac & cheese(did I mention that it’s awesome?) and the hummus, which was a little strange in consistency and flavor(chunky and tangy). They have a great beer list. This place is a go-to when we’re in the neighborhood because it’s so laid back and comfortable.

Nice place. It is more a bar than a restaurant. Overall ok. Burgers are good. Good drinks. Friendly people. Nice ambiance.

This place is better than cleos across the street. I don’t recommend getting the regular burger. Theres nothing on it besides lettuce tomato onion. And there are no condiments at the table. But it still tasted good. Just a little dry. They also overcooked mine. But thats fine. Everyone i was with enjoyed thier food and drinks. I would definitely try this place again.

This used to be one of my favorite«go to» places in the neighborhood, until they changed their menu. To be fair, I’ve tried their new menu three times, and each time I’m even more disappointed. The mini-burgers are tasteless, the tater tots are not seasoned well, and the chicken was awful. We tried to tell the waitress how disappointing our meal was and she shrugged and said, «I know, everyone misses the old menu». I wish the owner would take some of the top sellers from the old menu and integrate them back into the new. If they did, I would certainly return. As it stands, I’m bummed that my «go to» place is no more…

While I must say that the High Dive tends to be too hip for its’ own good(see posters of Dinosaur Jr., Paul Westerberg, & others, to boot), the place also has some high points. The beer selection is superb and affordable! The specials are definitely reason to come back, as you can have a few beers and eat for less than $ 20 on almost any given night. Trivia was pretty good. While the PA system is horrid and you have to literally sit 10 feet away from the host to hear anything, the host, Scott, knows what he is doing and works a crowd well. It didn’t hurt that my date for the evening and I beat a bunch of hipsters at their own game! There’s just something gratifying about beating a team of dudes who have on tighter clothing than my girl in trivia.

Brunch in this city is two things — Overpriced and crowded. I’ve been to High Dive many times for dinner and it can be a pain because the chef thinks he’s in a 5-star, reservation only restaurant and makes it impossible to substitute anything(tasty food but if i want no onions and mushrooms instead, I should be able to do that). Anyhow — we decided to try brunch and I’ve found my new go-to spot for amazing prices for huge portions of ridiculously tasty food. Our entire bill was $ 26 and that was with one entrée, two eggs a la carte, ½ order of biz and gravy(which were some of the best I’ve had in this city yet), a beer, coffee, and bloody. I left stuffed(sweet potato hash… HELLO!) and my wallet didn’t take a nose dive. I hope the brunch here stays a semi-secret because I don’t want it to become crowded. Definitely will be back on Sat and Sun mornings.

So this is one of the more mediocre places I have ever been in my life. Good beer list, but seems to be very overpriced. $ 7.50 for a Goose Island Sofie? Really? The food was reasonably priced; however, a friend of mine tried to order the fish fry which was the special of the day and she was told she couldn’t replace the sweet potato fries with regular fries even for an extra few dollars. Why is this such a big deal? So she ended up getting a separate order of fries and just not eating the sweet potato fries. What a waste. I had the patty melt which was supposed to be served on rye bread and was served on what looked like texas toast. Bizarre. The reason I will never come back here again has less to do with the overpriced beer and mediocre food and more to do with the waitress. She was nice enough, but one of my friends was in the bathroom at the same time as her and, not only did she not flush the toilet and apparently piss all over the seat, but she didn’t even wash her hands. If we hadn’t already eaten, we would have been out of there immediately and eaten somewhere else. So, due to the facts that I will never consume food here again and the beer is too expensive, I will not be returning here.

We came here exclusively to get some of the Backyard Rye Bourbon County Brand Stout(Goose Island). It came out chilled, so after pouring, we made sure to wrap our hands around it to get the temperature a little higher. The viscosity of the beer was rather thick when we first got it, but once we warmed it up a little, you could really begin to enjoy the texture and flavors of the beer. This beer was aged in Templeton Rye whiskey barrels with fresh mulberries, marionberries, and boysenberries… so you could definitely taste the berries(sweet, but not too sweet!) and the savory quality of the whiskey. Yum! I took a couple stars off because our table smelled so much of vinegar… I don’t know if they use it to clean, which I’m totally fine with. But it was just overwhelming. The tater tots are spot-on! I definitely recommend it to order with your beverage(s) of choice!

I’ve gone by High Dive a million times and went to many of the surrounding bars however I finally got to stop in last night. It wasn’t very busy at all with just some random people at the bar and a couple tables in the side room full. They had some good music playing and sports going on their televisions. My friend and I planned to go in as they were having a special Half Acre pairing going on Sunday thru Thursday this week. I got there before my buddy and bellied up to the bar. I was pleasantly surprised by their craft beer selection but they had a great draft menu, as well, ranging from $ 5.50-$ 8 for the brews. They also had Lagunitas IPA on tap special for the night for just $ 4! Not bad at all. They seem to have specials every night on drinks then food specials Tuesday-Thursday. 35 cent wings on Tuesdays! I started my night with a $ 6 Jinx Proof from Three Floyds. Both bartenders I had that night were super friendly, on top of things and just overall really knowledgeable about the drinks. I was slightly sad that for the special Half Acre pairing they didn’t yet have the collab beer with Three Floyds in yet(SheWolf) wah wah. However, the pairings were an amazing value. They were all priced at $ 13 which including a full meal and a pint. Heyoka was paired with a Pimento grilled cheese, Alpenglow black IPA with some kind of steak sandwich and Pony Pils was paired with Fish & Chips. I went with the Fish & Chips which was made with mahi mahi, perfectly crisp battering over three large strips. They came with a not-the-norm tartar sauce but I’m totally blanking on what special ingredient was in it. It was awesome though! The dish also came with sweet potato chips which were a bit salty but I really enjoyed them. The portion was so huge that I brought home leftovers! My final drink of the night was a 2023m2 which I had never had before or even seen on a menu! It looks to be a pretty rare one and was $ 7.50 for the pint… not bad at all for a more exclusive beer. I’d like to see what High Dive has on their normal menu, but I’m also really hoping they add the mahi mahi & chips to their normal menu. I’m down with the vibe and could see myself meeting up friends here or just having a beer & dinner solo at the bar.
