This will probably be my last visit to this Harold’s location. Lately, I feel like it is hard to find good fried chicken. Most places are hit or miss and this time this one missed. I went to the location early today around 11:30 am right before the lunch rush. I should have known something wasn’t right when I saw that there were a few baskets of chicken wings just sitting there. Placed my order only to find out after I got home that my worst fear was real that the chicken was old and apparently they just dipped it in some hot grease and was selling it. Just disgusting be careful If you thought going early meant that you were going to get the fresh chicken of the day apparently not so much.

It was a good experience overall. Honestly I think the wings are overrated, or perhaps breaded wings just aren’t my thing :-/if you do get to visit I’d suggest the ice/sweet tea!

Do not order your food online, they will not have your food ready when you get there. I asked was my order ready, they told me no we will start it now. I had to wait 20 minutes for my order. Why have a online service for take out when your not going to start the order until I get there. Don’t waste your time ordering online. It’s a joke.

I’m 31 years old and I’ve been going to this Harold’s since I started driving, about 15 years old. The best Harold’s in Chicago, to me! The only one I’ll ever go to!(Hyde Park was pretty good too!)

They were good and the prices are great. I got 2 chicken tenders w/fries and mild sauce for just over $ 3 after tax. The chicken and fries are cooked to order and come out piping hot !!! No, you don’t understand. It’s too hot for you to go in there STARVING. You simply cannot bite into their chicken when you first get it without risking 3rd&4th degree burns on your tastebuds and lips. Trust me, I learned the hard way. I’ve had better. But, the chicken seemed to be real chicken and had a great breading on it. The mild sauce has a hint of sweet with it and tastes really good. They drench it over the chicken and fries, giving the fries a special sweet potato taste. It’s a great spot for after clubbing hunger pains. I wouldn’t eat there often, but I would definitely return. Oh and there’s a DVD pusher hanging out too. The bug at the door was undetermined as to whether it was a roach or waterbug but hey, what’s the difference at this stage in life. I should wipe off a star for that but because he was at the door and there has been so much rain, I will assume it was a waterbug, brought in from outside. Overall, pretty cheap and tasty. I’d try a few other places first tho, if that option was there. No pics. Just memories from my tummy.

This ISTHEBEST Harold’s in the city by far. My family and I have been coming here for years. This is a minority-owned business and they often showcase other minority-owned businesses like Oooh Wee! Sweet Tea!

Harold’s Been on my list for couple years. Happening to be in town & had to try this famous chicken. The chicken was not great or bad either. It was ok, hot & crispy. But it was missing something regarding seasoning. Perch & Catfish combo was completely over cooked. A little on the salty side. If u don’t know how to fry chicken, u may love this place.

Horrible service. … I called in an order in December.. it took 20 minutes longer than the guaranteed time… when I complained they stated I should use the website. … 3 months later. I used the website.. Website charges my card, gives me a time of 30 minutes. I show up 40 minutes later they had no record of my transaction.. I gave my confirmation number. I showed the screen shot of my order and that the money had been deducted from my bank account they said they had no record. … I asked for the manager. they said they would have to call the boss. 20 minutes later after the boss 2 as called I still hadn’t received a refund or my food… they decided to then cook my order… 2 hours for a supposedly 30 minute meal

Just had the worst tasting chicken breast and catfish I have ever eaten. I am totally shocked at the taste of this food. Harold’s should be ashamed to serve food that taste this bad. The chicken was totally bland and dried out. The catfish taste as if it had been fried twice. Very disappointed. Mild sauce does not hide bad taste!

Don’t eat it often but when I get a taste for it, here is where I go. Today, though, they bombed out. The chicken was spoiled. I may never eat chicken again.

I was in Chicago for the weekend celebrating my best friend’s birthday. After the club one night all of our bellies were rumbling. I could literally hear mine saying«FEEDMEBRITANY!» I was wondering what could possibly be open at this hour because back home after the club your options are usually Chinese food or McDonalds if you aren’t downtown. She said Harolds Chicken Shack and I smiled from ear to ear because it sounded like the kind of place that I would like. I had spotted them around town in the day time and I was already curious, so now it was time to feed my curiosity. Upon entering the first thing I notice was the smell. I wanted to do a happy dance but the restaurant was not empty in the wee hours of the morning so I continued to act normal. People were sitting down and eating what looked like some delicious fried chicken. The place was small but there was ample seating and the staff was friendly. I ordered the 4 piece chicken wings and waffles which was 7.99. I thought that was a reasonable price until I SAWTHEPORTIONSIZE. 4 chicken wings really means 8 wings because they don’t cut the wings in half like back home. It also came with a side of fries, a waffle, bread and the creamiest coleslaw. If I lived in Chicago I would be obese. The food is just too cheap and too delicious. I was in love and it was a great first taste of Chicago. p. s. I love honey garlic wings which they didn’t have BUT they had ketchup wings which I’ve never heard of so obviously I had to try it. I had a mild/ketchup mix sooo good! Harold’s please come to Canada and don’t raise your prices. I would be your biggest fan.

One of the best Harold’s Chicken in the city. I’ve been coming here for years and it’s one of my favorites.

If this is still the same quality it was a few years back then this might be the best Harolds on the SouthSide. Everytime I come back home I order the 6pc w/Mild Sauce and salt and pepper. The only problem that I could recall about this location is the actual wait. 87th is always packed and its at least a 15 – 20 min wait unless you are just order a side of fries w/Mild sauce(FYE…). In all, this is a pretty good Harolds in comparison to the one’s around the area. PS… Watch out for them goons though! LOL

I had a craving for Harold’s Chicken again and I was in the area, so I went there. I ordered a 2 wing snack pack since I’m on a diet. Once again, I waited and waited and waited. After the supervisor realized I waited almost 40 minutes for 2 wings and some fries, she gave me 6 wings and extra fries even though I didn’t ask or complain. They still have the best chicken. Their customer service has also improved. I will be coming here again when I’m in the area.

The sign said 16 piece for 18 bucks. I asked for the 16 piece and the cashier said«No, 18.» The sign was digital so how hard is it to update? Rude! Chicken 1−5=5. Mild Sauce 1−5=5. Service 1−5=1.

Okay first let me say that I wanted to support this business because it’s black owned. However, I felt there was truly nothing special about this chicken when eaten plain with nothing on it, that’s what truly defines how good someone’s chicken is. I’ve had chicken in many places. I bought a 12 piece chicken wing meal with one waffle. And just for the naysayers, I went to the one on 87th St. which is supposed to be the best location. If you want to see how good chicken truly is with nothing on it, next time you visit Atlanta Georgia go to Gladys Knight’s chicken and waffles. Not to mention, this place is overpriced for greasy chicken. I honestly would have enjoyed chicken from KFC more than this place.

The chicken here is always well seasoned, but they don’t give you enough sauce which makes me sad. The place is ALWAYS packed, so be prepared to wait if you didn’t call your food in. The employees aren’t that friendly, but whatever… just give me my chicken…

This use to be my Harold’s to go to rain, sleet or shine but their prices have gone through the roof!!! I walked in and walked out when I saw how much their wing dinner was… I still like this place, I still think they are the best but their prices made me seek another spot to get my Harold’s from!!!

In my opinion, this is one of the best harolds chicken places in Chicago. By far this is the only one I eat from. Th chicken is always crispy and greasy… what more could you ask for. If you never had em, please try em
