Global Rhythms

It started out serene, with sweet flute music as the men stationed in front of the large drums started in —. Gongs on either side of the stage timely made their presence known as more drums joined in – sweet Rhythm!
Each performance was more athletic than the last — some playful — ALL — Dramatic.
Several, left me breathless. These were athletes! To throw those drums around, while the syncopated rhythms rang out — Smiling & playfully juxtaposing one another while yelling in time to the beats they laid out, it was — amazing!
Gracefully, artfully these performers displayed their skills on stage, effortlessly moving from flute, to drum, back to flute again — many times, you didn’t see them put away the flute & pick up the drumsticks — it was that seamless.
The final number was ambitious — and Dramatic — ALL were drenched in perspiration in the end.
The audience was captivated, applauding in several places before a given number was finished — because, quite simply, they were that good, each more amazing than the other, yet all knit together in a cohesive group — making each other shine all the more.
I’d love to see this show again — I came away energized — but at peace.
