I’ve been going for several years. Time to add my recommendation for a restaurant that lives up to its reputation and does not disappoint. Creative use of ingredients and delicious execution. Presentation always spot on. Adding my voice to why this is a Chicago must. Of course there is still a wait on reservations. You would think that after being open so many years that you could get in sooner. Congrats to Chef Stephanie

One of the highlights of Chicago. Well, to start off you will probably need a reservation, sorry. The wait looked severe buuut luckily we got reservations! We got there late as hell(~2 hours; Chicago metro is a pain imo) but they held them for us. Got seated in communal like area, the ambience was great. The waiters/waitresses are extremely knowledgeable and attentive. Your meals are spaced out and are to be shared among your table. We started with the olive you bread plate, which came with a warm bread with olives in it, whipped feta cheese, and olive oil.man. I could of ate that all night. It was one of the most simple and delicious combination of things I’ve ever ate. I wish I had some right now. We then got the wood grilled broccoli(a summer time favorite), the pan roasted halibut(the sauce at the bottom was lovely), and lastly the very crispy pork shank. If I could complain about anything, I wish that the buffalo sauce that came with the pork shank was a bit more spicy or flavorful. Overall the meals and service were excellent. I was really reluctant to try this restaurant when my s. o, brought it up. When reading the menu the dishes seemed very eccentric. like successful«Chopped» dishes, very random ingredients. But I really enjoyed every bit. It was recommended to us when told others we were visiting Chicago, and after trying it I’d highly recommend to anyone else visiting.

I’ve been here twice: once, a friend kindly bought me dinner to celebrate, another was for a date’s birthday. The menus vary — looking at today’s menu I recognize only a few dishes, but a few important memories stand out: It’s a beautiful place. It’s warm and inviting, the food and drinks are delicious and comforting and you will leave feeling stuffed and thankful. Some of the food isn’t objectively delicious but you should try it anyway. Two«misses» in my opinion have been very thought-provoking: an amuse bouche of roasted goat, melon, and kimchi, was«interesting» but not«evocative,» flavorful, but not«symbiotic;» a deconstructed apple pie with a big globe of blue cheese gelato was simply disgusting – I still took a few bites after coming to that judgement– but I can’t stop talking about how disgusting and strange it was even years after. Like many places, your food will occasionally be slightly over-cooked or over-salted, and many of the flavors can be heavy-handed. But you’ll keep eating, even when you aren’t completely convinced what you’re eating is delicious, and that’s a unique talent for a chef to have.

Everyone that came to Chicago before me rave about this place, so clearly I had to come try it. Got a pretty late reservation at 930pm. Atmosphere is cool… very loud. Food Started off with goat empanadas… ehh not worth $ 8 each. Didnt taste very good. The guac was good though Got a half order of the cauliflower that was decent, nothing amazing. blueberry salad was drenched with dressing. If you like cheese you would like this because i pretty much got a cheese plate with some very seasoned greens… Pork face with a fried egg. This was tasty. The crispy parts of the pork face are very flavorful. The guy that dropped off our food suggested us to break the egg and mix it all together. Pork shank was good. I liked the picked vegetables it came with. The pita bread went well with the dish too. Wish i got more of the vegetables though. Black dog sorbet was good. I think i got a strawberry rhubarb. It hit the spot. I just wanted the sorbet and not the dessert they offered that includes the sorbet. Service I don’t know what you call the guys that drop off your food for you, but they were knowledgeable and told us about the dish and how to eat it when they drop it off. The main waiter was kinda not there very much. Not very interested in serving the client. Had too many helpers doing his work for him.

There are over 5,000 reviews of Girl and the Goat. Crazy! So not much to add. We loved the experience start to finish! The octopus we had was sensational.

Good? I wanted to lick the porcelain plate clean white, but people were watching. No reservation. Walked in and sat at the bar next to two people traveling into town for work and have eaten here multiple times. I ordered five different dishes(I’m a bigger guy — figured fancy restaurants has small portions — and they do), but my favorite was the roasted pig face and rhubarb ice cream cake. Flavor titillated my mouth, and I was instantly infatuated. Menu was broken out into easy sections(i.e. veggies, seafood, meat, bread, etc.). Awesome service. Urban contemporary feel. The name«Girl» represents her as the owner and«goat» is the interpretation of her Persian last name from what I understand. She is a competitive winning chef named Stephanie Izard that won Top Chef and owns multiple restaurants under her portfolio. No doubt about it, I’ll come back again next time I’m in the area!

worth the hype? yeah. We were not disappointed at all. I got really lucky and got a reservation for Sunday at 5pm. My friend and I were excited to try this place since my coworkers were raving about it. we ordered the miso butter bread, cauliflower dish, octopus and pork shank since all of these dishes were highly recommended by our waiter. we opted not to get goat since we weren’t feeling for it. the meal was amazing from start to finish. the miso butter bread was delicious. They gave 4 pieces of warm brioche. It was perfect with the melted butter. My friend loved it so much she ate my portion of bread and even used the butter spread on our dishes. the cauliflower dish was my favorite. It had a nice smoky and nutty flavor to it that I couldn’t stop stuffing my mouth. We didn’t love the octopus as much as we hoped to. The pork shank was flavorful and had crispy skin all around for us to munch on. I can see why there’s so many reviews. even if a dish didn’t live up to the hype the other dishes made up for it. We were so full at the end so we opted not to get dessert. Oh and I had a bottle of green flash raspberry beer that went well with the meal. Side note — The tables next to us ordered goat empanadas and loved it

DAMN this place was good. I literally had this spot booked after I booked my flight to Chicago; two reasons — one because I did really enjoy Stephanie Izard’s food. I wanted to make sure I could come with some friends so I’m glad I came with my friend Andy N. We started off with bread(obviously). The miso hungry was so good. It’s this brioche(so buttery and good) and the miso butter is so good with it. The kimchi relish was also good, but the miso butter is just so well paired with the brioche. Then we had the escargot dumplings. This was definitely not my favorite. There isn’t this great escargot taste and the onions on top weren’t crispy. Disappointing. The next dish — the goat loin. The ramp and potato purée — so good with the loin. It wasn’t too game-y which I would be afraid of, but it was tender and so good. After, we got the scallops. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t amazing either. I mean I just love scallops and it wasn’t AHMAZING. It was still good. Our last dish was the pig’s face. I know that sounds weird, but it’s this lovely breakfast-ish dish that you mix together. SOGOOD. Such a great last item to have together here. Service was good, but not amazing. Our waitress was off elsewhere at times, but we didn’t really care since we just wanted our food. Protip: make reservations(call since you can make them a year ahead of time apparently). GETGOAT!

Several friends recommended I dine here while in Chicago, so I came with two friends on a Sunday evening. We came shortly after 6PM and the wait was already over two hours, but fortunately, we were also given the option of sitting outdoors, for which there was immediate availability. We got lucky, because one of my friends had to go in for her night shift at 9PM, so we wouldn’t have been able to wait two hours. Though I didn’t sit inside, I did get a peek of the interior, and it’s quite a large space, with lots of tables and a lounging area with couches. I also went to use the restroom, which was downstairs. I will say that the light at the stairwell is not very bright and I had difficulty seeing the steps, so I feel like this could be improved for safety considerations. I also found it amusing that the restrooms below are individual rooms(probably at least six separate doors) with no gender designation; I’ve never seen that before! Our waitress was great. She wasn’t overtly friendly, but was very attentive. Our dishes were served by many different people, but each time, they always announced the name of the dish and the primary ingredients, which I think added a nice touch of class. Our waters were also regularly topped off. Since we were a party of three, it was recommended that we order six plates for sharing, so that’s exactly what we did(plus one dessert). I can’t remember all the names of the dishes now, but see my photos and their corresponding captions. There is a separate menu of «goat dishes,» and the goat liver mousse that we opted for was fantastic! It came with lots of warm biscuits and several sauces/garnishes. All of our other dishes were amazing too. The presentation of each dish was also very thoughtful. The quality of the ingredients was apparent when you tasted each dish, and while the portions were not large, the three of us were still full at the end of the meal. Although pricey, our meal after splitting three-ways was only about $ 40 per person, which was reasonable. I’m glad I went with two other people so that I was able to try so many dishes! I definitely think Girl & the Goat deserves all of its accolades and is worth checking out!

Beautiful dishes, wonderful service, great ambiance. Seldom blown away — well worth the rave. Roasted cauliflower with pickled peppers, pine nuts, mint — each ingredient was a gamechanger, particularly the mint. Elevates cauliflower to goddess status. Grilled baby octopus with guanciale, fava beans, pea tips, pistachios, lightly dressed with lemon vinaigrette — as a pulpo lover, this was next level. Complex but not overthought, flavors worked well together, with the pea tips and lemon vinaigrette balancing out the guanciale, grounded with the earthiness of the fava beans, pistachios adding textural interest. Last but not least, pork shank was pure Game of Thrones inspo. Handsome, massive, perfectly roasted — a dream come true. Paired with buttermilk dressing, grilled spring onion kimchee, an excellent complement to cut through the pork. Loved the perfectly toasted naan that came with. Can’t wait to return for the pig face. Highly recommend.

Just in case if the 5200+ reviews weren’t enough, I’ll add one more. After 2 months of reservations, I’ve finally had the opportunity to try one of Stephanie’s Izard restaurants, the first female chef ever to win the Bravo’s Top Chef. No wonder there are next to no times available a few months out. One stop inside and you figure out why. First things first before I get into the food. Service was top notch. Our server, Emily, was very good about replacing our plates with clean ones, keeping our water and drinks filled, and explaining any questions we had about the menu.(Give her a raise Steph!) Now let’s talk about the goodies: — Old Fashioned($ 13) — Bolt Action($ 13) — Beet Salad($ 10) — Raw Oysters($ 12) — Goat Empanadas($ 16) — Pig Face($ 14) — Pork Shank($ 26): The best dish! Honestly, there isn’t much I can say about the place that hasn’t been said already. When we got to the restaurant we were shown to our table immediately and were seated. The table was in a great place for people watching I might add — right at the front close to the front door which I love. Also, I noticed this restaurants is tons of Young Professionals which makes it cool because everybody’s age is very similar. Tips: — Avoid the 2 hour wait and make reservations asap! — It’s right next to a few good bars! A must try if you’re in Chicago! I’ll be back.

I’ve been wanting to try some new places recently, but since 97% of all the new restaurants in CA are poke places, I had to wait until my trip to Chicago to do so. A visit to Girl & the Goat was a no brainer. Not going there while in Chicago would be like going to the Trump Tower Grill and not getting the infamous Taco Bowl. So, I made a reservation about a month in advance, then abruptly cancelled it since I didn’t want to be pinned down to a certain time. We ended up taking our chances at the bar instead on a Monday night, which worked out well as there was no wait. While we had WOODGRILLEDBROCCOLI(to help combat getting Diverticulitis), let’s face it, no matter how good it was, no one is there for that. It’s all about going hard for the meat, with these 2 standouts in particular: WOODOVENROASTEDPIGFACE — there are 2 ways to show how much you’re truly enjoying food: by taking your time, slowly cherishing each bite like you never want it to end, or by devouring it. Ok, I’ve heard that moaning is a 3rd way, but that’s not something I’ll ever do. In this case, we mixed the egg yolk in with the potato six, cilantro, tamarind, and red-wine maple like the server suggested, then finished it off almost as quickly as I change the radio station when a Meghan Trainor song comes on. It had really excellent flavors all around, included a healthy dose of fat(which may not be so healthy), and packed a nice crunch, but I wouldn’t have minded if it had more pig in it. CRISPBRAISEDPORKSHANK — it may not look huge in the pics, but this is a force to be reckoned with. This is so filling that I don’t know if you could down it quickly even if you tried, so we meticulously carved it up, despite the fact it easily falls right off the bone if you want it to. While the sauce complements the pork well, the quality is at such another level that you can enjoy it without any, which is what good meat is supposed to be all about. Even though it’s pork, they could’ve fooled me into thinking it was goat, if by goat, you mean GOAT(Greatest Of All Time). It was a lot better than poke too.

Cool spot in the West Loop. Overall, I was very impressed with the service and food. 4.5 stars in my opinion. The lady was visiting me on a work assignment in Chicago, and her flight from NYC was delayed 2 hours(thank you, Delta and LaGuardia). I booked a reservation via OpenTable a couple of weeks in advance, knowing the restaurant’s popularity, so it was sad that we were unable to make it on time due to the aforementioned delays. I called the restaurant to explain the situation and prepared to give away my table. However, the reservationist was highly sympathetic and told us to come that night whenever we could make it. Despite the restaurant being packed and showing up roughly 30 minutes late, they checked my girlfriend’s luggage at the front door at sat us immediately. Really classy stuff — we sincerely appreciated it. The menu is separated into three primary sections: vegetables, fish, and meats. There is also an array of goat-inspired dishes as well as breads, oysters, and desserts. Our waiter explained that the majority of plates are smaller with the intention of sharing(think tapas), which was useful advice. As a result, we ordered a gamut of items and received approval from our waiter, who ensured our selections paired well together. Again, this was super helpful. The food was great. We had the roasted cauliflower, goat carpaccio, hamachi crudo, seared diver scallops, and wood oven roasted pig face. I really enjoyed the fish dishes, though everything was tasty. The pig face was also pretty awesome, topped with a sunny side egg. There was no room in our content stomachs for dessert, though it was tempting. Thanks again for the enjoyable experience and showing great hospitality towards a couple of out-of-towners. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone local or visiting!

It is the highest rated, the best known, and the most recommended restaurant in Chicago at the moment! However, it’s only 4 stars for me(and 2 for my husband) Reasons? The food depends too much on salt to make the flavors, so by the end of the night, he felt bloated and I got a sore throat from excessive sodium consumption. They tried a little too hard on seasoning, but I still LOVED how their flavors always come in layers. I would highly recommend their Calamari appetizer(top right). It’s not deep fried though, Californians. What makes it awesome is the bruschetta that comes with it. You can’t find it done so perfectly anywhere else on this planet! The crispy pig face and goat belly are also pretty darn yummy. Worth the sore throat lol What NOT to order? Roasted cauliflowers. Really. Nothing special about it. Also pan roasted halibut. Meh… Again I did enjoy my experience with Girl & The Goat very much, while my husband just couldn’t wait to get out of the restaurant and head to a hot dog stand LOL will we come back? Nope! But should you try? Yes, since it’s the hottest thing in Chicago right now.

Sat at the bar, top 5 dining experiences of my adult life(not counting my 9th birthday at Chuck E Cheese). Lily was our waitress and holy balls is this chick a badass. She controlled our selections, created a perfect tempo, ensured we never waited a second in between plates and made us dance in our seats. Here’s my hit list: Cauliflower Beets Pig Face(trust me) Goat Shank Duck Tongue …and throw in an old fashioned or a glass of the sparkling rose and now it’s a party!

I had the most incredible and wonderful dining experience at Girl and the Goat. Everything that was served was absolutely delicious! I came here last night for a Team dinner and we had our own private room downstairs. The exterior is lovely with an outdoor dining area and the room where we dined was lovely and rustic. Beautiful setting on a wood table with candles and a plant in the center. We met Gary, our go to server for the evening and he was awesome… Really knew the menu well, listened and tended to our dietary needs, and was completely gracious throughout the night. I asked if any of the amazing-sounding cocktails could be made without alcohol and so I got The Royal Rubus that way. It was citrusy soda with lemon bitters, blackberry and lime. It came in a brilliant raspberry red and was very tasty and refreshing. Started off with an assortment of breads: One sourdough with little pieces of ham in it, which was okay. I didn’t have a ton of flavor but I liked the green peas and ham that came with it. There was also muffin top bread, which was nicely moist and it came with yummy seasoned butter. Next we had«Fried Naked Cowboys» which were fried oysters with egg salad on the bottom. These came in cute little spoons and one bite form. Even though I’m not a huge fan of oysters, it was quite good fried and the sauce on top worked well with it. Then there was salad which consisted of fennel, evalon cheese, toasted almonds and blueberries. This was nice and I especially liked the cheese, which was a sweet goat cheese with fruity and nutty finish. It added an additional layer of delightful flavor to the salad. The goat empanadas were one of my favorite dishes. It had strawberry, white asparagus with it and smashed avocado underneath. The empanadas were perfectly crispy and the goat meat was so very flavorful and melted in my mouth! We also had green garlic pierogis which was decent, but I didn’t taste a strong garlic taste. The filling was like mashed potatoes. The vegetables we had were cauliflower, broccoli and string beans. The cauliflower dish had pickled peppers, pine nuts and parmesan cheese. It was slightly crispy and had a nice burst of flavor. The broccoli had little crisps and the green beans had yummy cashews! The entrees were pasta, fish and pork shank. The pasta was spiral with tons of appetizing beef, which was wonderfully juicy and incredibly savory. There were also little orange tomatoes and tomatoes on top that were fresh and flavorful. We also had wild striped bass in a coconut green curry, new potatoes and artichokes. I enjoyed this dish, especially the slightly charred skin on the fish. Last, was the crisp braised pork shank with naan and the following dipping sauces: Grilled spring onion kimchi and buttermilk dressing. The pork was so wonderful and tender! I loved the crunchiness of it. After all that, there were 5 different types of desserts. My absolute favorite was vanilla gelato with chocolate shell, caramel sauce and caramel popcorn. This dessert was truly delectable and so decadent. I could have a whole bowl of it if I wasn’t already so stuffed. My second favorite dessert was balls of coated gelato with peanut butter inside and candied peanuts. There was also a tres leches cake with strawberry and some pudding, as well as fruity sorbet. It was a nice, light and yummy treat. Then there was a pudding-like dessert with a blend of pure toffee pieces, expresso and vanilla. The last dessert was different and interesting. It consisted of gelatin, blueberries and pieces of meringue. Each dish from appetizer, to entrée, to dessert was well thought out and unique in a good way. All of the food exceeded my expectations and was mouthwateringly delicious! The service was impeccable. Everything came together seamlessly. This will go down as one of the best dinners I have ever had… If I could give Girl and the Goat 10 stars, I would do so without hesitation.

UP, on a Wednesday night! Came around 9pm, no reservations and no wait time. Got a table within seconds, winning. My sister had just picked me up from the airport, flew in from Kansas City(Go Royals) and the first thing I wanted to try was Girl & the Goat, it’s been on my Unilocal bookmark for quite some time. We went out on a whim knowing how busy this place can get, to our surprise we were seated immediately, granted it was with a table of 8 other strangers… we didn’t mind. Girl & the Goat is all about small plates, tapas if you will. You can choose from 3 different sections on their menu, vegetarian, fish, and meat. They also have a separate menu that includes bread, oysters, and goat. We couldn’t decided on what to get so we asked our server. He was pretty awesome, I just wish I remembered his name! He gave us one of the best answers I’ve received. So here’s how the convo kinda went down: «Sweety everything on this menu is delicious, you need to order what your taste buds want because everyone is different. I can tell you these items are my favorite but it might not be yours». REALest answer you’ll get! I loved that he didn’t try to pressure us on certain items and just told us what our heart was craving for. My sister and I decided to pick one of each from the first menu. We ordered: the roasted cauliflower, calamari bruschetta, and wood oven roasted pig face, we also ordered the wood fire oysters on the side. Can I just say that everything was quite spectacular?! The flavors and the pairings just went great! I was skeptical of the roasted cauliflower but my sister swore it’s her favorite dish and I can see why now. It’s packed with crazy flavors! The calamari bruschetta with the goat milk ricotta — delish! Can’t forget to mention the pig face… ok ok it doesn’t really come out looking like a pig’s face. One of their more popular dishes because it’s so freaking good! That sunny side egg on top was the cherry on top! The meat was so tender and soft. I loved everything we had! Next time I’m in town, I’m going back to Girl & the Goat, it’s pretty freaking amazing. Oh, I also heard from a little birdy that the owner and chef previously won Top Chef, prettyyyy coool! It gets packed fast so I recommend making reservations… like months in advance or go on a week day when they’re not as busy/crowded. Also, Über/Lyft because I’ll just leave you with… street parking/walking far. Enjoy!

This has been a foodie destination of mine for years now, and the inspiration behind my recent trip to Chicago. One of my old coworkers(who would dine at Osteria Mozza while I could only afford Pizza Mozza) said this was one of his top 10 dining experiences. #foodiegoals As soon as my friend and I booked our trip, I immediately turned around and looked for reservations. With a little over a month to go, everything was booked solid except 10:15 Thursday night. Done and done. The real only hitch was the girl who left me a message to confirm my reservation left the wrong phone # in her voicemail. If that’s all I have to complain about clearly they’re doing something right. Our experience was great. There was a slight wait while our table was cleared, so they offered us a seat in the bar and gave my friend the opportunity to order a very stiff old fashioned. Once seated, we were warmly welcomed by our server. My pescatarian friend was a good sport in accompanying me to a goat-centric restaurant and opted for the halibut and grilled octopus. After drooling over the menu for weeks, I stuck to my guns and got the duck tongues, the goat tenderloin and we decided to split the roasted cauliflower. No shame here… we traveled 2,000 miles and figured we’d order whatever we want! Everything was delicious. My friend said the halibut was her favorite dish of the entire trip. The octopus was charred yet tender. I usually despise when chefs do «Asian Fusion» but those duck tongues were fried so perfectly and dressed up so nicely that I had no qualms. The goat tenderloin was done perfectly and practically melted in my mouth. The cauliflower made us both feel better that we «ate our veggies.» The real win was dessert. I convinced my friend into splitting the caramel corn and malt balls dessert. A distinguished chef that serves a dessert with MAGICSHELL is a standout in my book. I also have the biggest weakness for popcorn… when you combine it in ice cream it’s pretty much guaranteed to be my pick. This was no exception. The mixture of sweet ice cream and salty popcorn gets me every time.

Our experience here left me perplexed. While we had great service and enjoyed most of the food while we were eating it, the dishes died on my tongue and I’m left with vague memories of flavors and wondering how the reservations are so hard to get. We sampled the duck tongue dish which was well done. The tongues were crispy and I could have eaten them without anything else. The pig face was the favorite of the table with porky goodness mixed with unctuous egg yolk. The pierogis were ok but at $ 16 for the dish definitely not worth it as the fried dough tasted more like an empanada filled with cheese with not much ramp flavor. The octopus was tender and had a lovely grilled flavor but I felt the sauce might have been a little heavy handed and masked the dish a bit. The worst dish was the ham frites which our waiter vaguely warned us about by saying they were fries basically. My husband still went ahead though. The fries themselves were very good but there was a dusting of ham salt as it was explained to us that tasted like ground up bacon bits. We were talking and did finish the meal more because it was there and not because the flavor rocked. As I mentioned, we enjoyed the dishes while we are them and the staff was totally on their game. We just aren’t talking about the food with watering mouths.
