Alan’s right in basically saying the Gentile Center is what it is: a place to see basketball. Nothing fancy, just your typical mid-major college setting with a strong and passionate student presence. I’ve long said that Loyola games are the best-kept secret in Chicago’s sports entertainment. Tickets for men’s games are $ 10 and they have a talented team that plays hard and a decent schedule made up of other mid-majors and an occasional big school. By and large, seating is general admission, so getting there 20 minutes before the game can mean courtside seats right behind the bench or the scorer’s table. This place is for people there to watch basketball, not people who need exploding scoreboards or fancy concessions. Oh, and occasionally they have special post-game parties that include free food and beer. Parking is $ 5 in the garage, or LU is extremely well-served by the el and several buses.

Basically a bigger, nicer HS gym. Gentile seats 5,000+. Its a nice facility that opened in 1996. They have clean facilities and there is not a bad seat in the house. If you want anything other than that though, you have to head to the many other arenas in the Chicago area. This is strictly a minimalist place to watch a game. Don’t go looking for great concessions or some of the newer amenities here. There is no restaurant over looking the court or any suites. That said, the home of the Loyola Ramblers doesn’t pretend to be anything it isn’t and its a great place to see a game.
