My family had a retirement party for me at Gemellato Friday, April 27th. The party was a great success. Everyone who attended love the décor and layout of the restaurant! The glassware, tablecloths, etcetera, were elegant. We had a buffet and everyone raved about the mostaccioli and the sausage and gravy(red sauce). We all agree we would book parties there or in their banquet hall again and will be looking forward to having dinner there in the future. Great place!

While a little pricey for its location, they make some great food and the ambiance is very pleasant and clean. I went there with my girlfriend and we had the an appetizer of clams. They were incredible. My main course could have used some parsley and a touch more garlic. The cheesecake, on the other hand, was top notch. Some of the best cheesecake I’ve had.

I have eaten at this restaurant a total of four times since they opened and I WANT to like it. I WANT it to improve. There are so many GREAT things about this place. 1. Location– a real neighborhood place with fres parking and the restaurant is really nice. 2. The food was really good each time I ate there. But thats where the Great Things ends. Now for the bad: 1. Service… come on… hire some more waiters. One guy cannot wait on every table. Maybe you dont expect a lot of business because you just opened, but if you get the business… you have to make your customers happy so have an extra waiter on hand in case that happens. On each dining occasion we had to wait a long time for everything. 2. I heard they made the decision to close and re open at a later date??? Why do you need to close to find more waiters? That’s crazy… you are just now starting to get customers and people are just hearing that you are open. Get someone to promote your restaurant, hire some more waiters and stay OPEN. Why start all over again? So, I hope they don’t make the mistake to close. And I hope they hire more staff. Then I would dine there again.

We initially came down here to go to 260 thinking they had a larger food selection. After looking through their menu, we decided to go downstairs and try this restaurant instead. That’s ok though, same owner. I live in the neighborhood but had never heard of this place or have seen it advertised. They’ve only been opened for a few months and maybe they’re still working on the advertising. I’m glad we found it though and I will be spreading the word about it. $ 120 for 4 good meals, one app., and 4 alcoholic drinks(school night). Tip included. The chicken piccata was very good. I love pine nuts and this dish was loaded with them. The salmon was perfect. The portions were enough to fill you up for a few hours. Not enough for leftovers or for that really full, nap time feeling though.

I came here for a baby shower, and I was not impressed. The food was ok, but nothing spectacular. And they forgot the veggie side dish so all I had was lemon chicken and lasagna. I’m pretty sure they didn’t reimburse my mother-in-law for the mistake. Service was the worst I’ve seen at a banquet event. One server thought it was ok to comment about how we didn’t eat the fish: «oh its good for you!» Not good if you have dietary restrictions or an allergy. Keep your comments to yourself! Oh, and about 4 different trays crashed to the floor, one of which ended up on half of someone’s lap. Only good thing is there’s free parking across the street in a huge lot. But, I will probably not be coming here again.

A southside gem that doesn’t disappoint. The food, atmosphere and staff should be classified as above average. The prices were very reasonable. My fiancé and I decided to try Gemellato on a Thursday evening for dinner. The restaurant(1st Floor) shares a lobby with the 260 Sports Bar(3rd Floor) so don’t be confused. Right when you walk in to Gemellato the atmosphere seems to generate elegance and class. You can clearly see they spared no expense. Even though it was fairly crowded(understandably so when you try the food) we avoided any wait by getting their a little early. The hostess and servers were both extremely well mannered and polite, so much so that you had to have figured they had to go through a training process. We had no issues with the staff and in fact couldn’t believe how attentive they were. We first were served complimentary bread with a side of homemade butter with sun dried tomatoes, basil and garlic(yum). Of course the olive oil and parmesan cheese were available as well. We were given a good wine list and started off with the Calamari Fritti. The seasoning was perfect and the calamari was very tender but not chewy. The next course my fiancé ordered the Chicken Pesto Farfalle(fantastic) and I had the Mushroom Ravioli Alforno. I’ve honestly never had a better Marsala sauce. The portions are appropriate and I did become full. Lastly, we ordered the Tiramisu and I say this — order the Tiramisu. Soft, light, not too moist and not dry at all. I’ve had Tiramisu but this is probably some of the best I’ve had in a long while. I recommend trying Gemellato as soon as possible. Since it is new, you can still avoid the ridiculous waiting time you’ll experience when this becomes more popular. Enjoy.

Conclusion first: Average americanized Italian food with excellent service and reasonable prices. More Details: First the good: EXCELLENT service. Everyone was extremely friendly making sure water was full, food was good and we were happy. Décor was very nice and clean. No pasta is made in house, but sauces and most of the desserts are. Now the bad: Food was very«americanized» Italian. Flavor was achieved with heavy cream, butter and heavy sauces. Pesto chicken farfalle pasta was good, but swimming in cream pesto sauce. Other plates were covered with butter or cream sauces. Flavors were okay, but how bad can things be with so much cream and butter? If the food was as good as the service, it would have a michelin star. That said, for the prices, it was quite reasonable — I just don’t love the«americanized» version of italian food.

This place was truly amazzzzing. My boyfriend and I went on a Friday night and although the place was mostly empty, the atmosphere was nice. The décor leaves a lot to be desired, but what this place lacks aesthetically it more than makes up for in taste and service. The waiter/busboys were very attentive, patient and generous with suggestions. They bring out tasty bread with a vegetable spread that I thought was very good. My boyfriend loved it and completely devoured it. We ordered two glasses of Malbec which was very tasty as well and reasonably priced. We started with the stuffed mushrooms… delish. Then I ordered shrimp scampi and the bf ordered chicken marsala. What can I say about this shrimp scampi besides it was absolutely mouth watering. About an hour after dinner I burped and tasted it again, and even that was delicious! No joke! Haha. I don’t eat Chicken, so I didn’t sample my boyfriends entrée but he said it was very good, although I’m pretty sure he didn’t find it as delicious as my shrimp scampi. Try this place out! You will not be disappointed!

We really had high hopes for our dining experience this past Saturday night at this new Bridgeport spot next to Ricobene’s. I will get to the bad part first, which was one issue that really needs addressing if this new neighborhood Italian is to succeed: **Management: Hire more waitstaff! It’s unfair to overtax your one waiter and make him run his *ss off trying to make everyone happy. The service suffers tremendously and makes for a poor dining experience! — Unfair to everyone involved in the dining process!** We arrived at 6:30PM, and were out at 9:30PM…½ of that time was waiting to get our waiter back to take care of us at our table through our meal — and it was not just us. Many other diners were wondering just what the heck was going on. OK, on to good: Mushroom Ravioli Alforno equates to heaven in a bowl — an amazingly awesome perfect dish with incredible flavor. The Gemellato Salad was excellent with simple olive oil and balsamic for our dressing, alla Italiano style. The seafood in the Linguine del Mare is very fresh, the fried calimari on top is over-fried, the sauce was just OK — however, a good value for $ 18. The grilled Rum Cake dessert was innovative, different, and delicious. The wine pours by the glass are uneven, and they will refill your used glass if you want another(probably because the poor waiter couldn’t bear another run to the bar, among all his other crazy running around to take care of 10 tables!) So…will we return? Maybe if we see that they take care of this staffing problem, we may come back in a few weeks, only because of that darn Mushroom Ravioli Alforno!

The location is under a highway overpass with plenty of street parking around. The restaurant was larger than expected with a family restaurant type feel. The staff was attentive enough and our glasses were never empty. Ok wine selection. The vegetable infused spread served with the bread was quite good. My wife and I had stuffed mushrooms, seafood linguine, veal scallopini, and sauteed spinach. Overall the portions were decent and food tasted great, even though everything was touch on the saltier side. Negative: They brought out the mushroom appetizer and the linguine together, then about 15 minutes later they brought out the veal and spinach… pasta got cold by the time the veal arrived… perhaps some kinks still need to be ironed out of this new restaurant? We’ll probably give it another shot.

Admittedly we had low expectations going in, mainly because of non-prime location. We were dead wrong. this place is awesome. First impression is it’s new, clean and well managed. Staff is pleasant and welcoming. The ambiance of the restaurant is amazing and, visible kitchen was a nice touch; specifically seeing a clean cooking space, brass lights and the chef carefully watching the cooks ensured us that food would be top notch. And it was. portions are perfectly sized not too big and not too small. More importantly they were well designed aesthetically and pleasant to the eye and to the palate. Delicious entrees, excellent coffee and tea. Somewhat lean beer list and as to wine we can’t comment as we’re not wine drinkers, but the list looked good. The only kink was the time it took to cash out, but again it was Friday and I imagine a lot of staff is new and it wasn’t a big deal at all. Short of the kink mentioned, we give this place a 5 out of 5 and will be back for sure!

Good food. That’s the most important part of a dining experience and Gemellato has it and so much more! I visited a few weeks ago with a friend and had a great time! The staff was extremely friendly and our waitress was very attentive and made some excellent recommendations. My friend and I started with the anti pasto plate, which was huge! Everything on it, especially the cheese and the meat were delicious! They also have great bread with a special cream cheese and olive spread. I don’t know exactly what they put in it, but my oh my, it was tasty! My friend ordered the mushroom ravioli alforno, which she just loved! I had the chicken picatta and it was great! The portion was enormous and tasted even better the next day when I had it for lunch! Even though they just opened, I’m really impressed with Gemellato! Groupon is offering half off today and I bought one and can’t wait to go back!

My fiancé and I tried this restaurant on 10/14/2011, and it was great. At the time, it was only open about 3 weeks, and I know that many new restaurants have lots of problems getting things right(timing, display, service, etc.). But Gemellato really nailed it. The staff was very attentive and friendly, without being overbearing. We ordered 2 appetizers and 1 entrée to share, and we were both stuffed by the end. We got a caesar salad and a grilled italian sausage with peppers and marinara. The caesar was nothing to write home about, but really, are they ever? The sausage was delicious. grilled and split, with nice sweet peppers, with a gentle dose of heat, and really tasty sauce. For our entrée, we got farfelle(bowtie) pasta in a creamy pesto sauce with grilled chicken. It was absolutely AMAZING! real home made pesto sauce. Real roasted pine nuts, and excellently cooked chicken. I hope this place does well, because it will be great for future dates.

They had me from the get-go with their Fried Calamari appetizer. Delicately fried and garnished with red, green, and yellow peppers, the calamari was perfectly cooked: tender, not chewy. We ordered a bottle of Malbec that was excellent and which we enjoyed throughout the meal. Unobtrusive waitstaff made sure that our glasses were filled throughout our meal. Next, we shared a Caprese Salad and a Gemellato Salad. Both were tasty. There is no salt shaker on the table, and I usually find this annoying because it’s rare that the food is seasoned to my taste. There’s not a single dish I tasted where I missed the salt shaker. We then split Mushroom Ravioli Alforno and Chicken Piccata. I loved both, but the variety of mushrooms both inside and as part of the sauce on the ravioli pushed it slightly ahead of the Piccata. I would order both again. To top it all off, we shared Profiteroles, which were also excellent. the pastries were crisp and stood up to both the ice cream and the chocolate sauce. Tasty from the first bite to the last. Finally, they serve Julius Meinl coffee which I LOVE. There was a steady stream of customers, but I think this place is still under the radar, so check it out before it gets too popular.
