First Dental Center

Love Dr. Kim! She is the most thorough and informative dentist I’ve ever had. Always explains things, including x-​rays, as in we look at them together and she explains the impact my perm retainer has had and where the root should start, etc. Other dentists just pop in and say, all good. She does the cleaning (not a hygienist) and the exam. Plus she is super friendly and really knows her patients. The receptionist is adorable. The office is clean and high tech. My husband went in for a tooth ache the day before our honeymoon — ended up needing an emergency root canal. Dr. Kim called in a favor with another surgeon and he had it done that day. Great level of care, service, and commitment to patients.

DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILD TO DR FENG
Dr Feng was my primary dentist when I was a child. he does not listen to you when you’re a child. I had so many cavities filled by him and he NEVER used enough anesthetic. I would tell him it hurt but he made me suffer through the pain. Have you ever felt pain every time the drill pushed through a tooth? if you haven’t, then feel free to go to him and experience it! I didn’t realize that dental fillings could be painless until I was in college. I was so happy to find a dentist who could do it pain free that I cried. When I say painfree, I’m not counting the injection of anesthetic — that’s small potatoes compared to the pain I experienced with him and doesn’t count. I don’t know if he just doesn’t see children as people, or if he’s just too cheap to give children enough anesthetic, or both.
This man forever ruined my experience with dentists. I cannot erase the painful memories, the fear and dread I felt waiting in the chair while I stared at the colorful stickers of animals on the walls wishing I was someplace else.

Like most people, I get extremely nervous when going to the dentist– and when I thought I had a cavity… well, that just amplified the nerves. Not having a tried and true dentist, my boyfriend suggested First Dental Center which prompted me to make an appointment.
To be honest, I was shaking in my boots with nerves when I arrived but Dr. Kim and her fellow dentists knocked the nerves right out of me! They were very nice, professional, and they were sure that I was at ease with the procedure and with what they were doing. Dr. Kim took pictures of the before/​after drilled/​and final product of my tooth and it was actually very reassuring and my tooth looks fantastic! To be honest, (and sincerely thought I would NEVER be saying this in my life) it wasn’t bad at all!
To top it all off, they are extremely affordable. That really was the cherry on top. Finally, after six years of living in the city I have found my dentist!

Best dentistry I’ve ever been to. I’ve seen both Dr. Kim and Dr. Frank Feng and both are outstanding. Dr. Feng uses laser dentistry, called waterlase, and it’s amazing. I had cavities treated fast, painlessly, and without unsightly standard fillings. Highly recommended!

I came here and saw Dr. Kelvin Chou. He was very nice and thorough, and made me aware of all I needed to know about my teeth (more than I’d like to know, honestly), including every cavity that needed work, etc. His thorough explanation and visual aids of x-​rays and pictures made me realize that my old dentist in Indiana was not very good, cause I might need to get a root canal, and I don’t understand why that wasn’t addressed when I went to my old dentist 5 months ago!
Anyway, I’m glad that my lazy butt finally found a new dentist in Chicago, and I definitely plan on keeping him so I don’t end up toothless one day. I enjoyed my old dentist cause he always willingly gave me laughing gas before working on my teeth, but I guess that awesome feeling doesn’t outweigh letting my teeth all fall apart, literally.

I needed a general cleaning before seeing my new orthodontist. Unfortunately, I don’t have dental insurance so I called around to check for prices. Most dentists require an initial examination and consultation with the cleaning. Excluding x-​rays, some dentists near my apartment charged over $ 200 total for those services. Yikes.
Thanks to Unilocal,I found 1^st Dental. It’s located a mere two blocks from the Sheridan «L» stop. I didn’t have to wait very long after completing paperwork to be seen. My dentist was Dr. Janie Kim, who could understand everything I said even with various instruments like saliva ejectors in my mouth. She applied a numbing gel before the actual cleaning (thank goodness). Because I had braces, she used a special polisher that blasts water with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda in layman’s terms). In less than 40 minutes, I was done. The cleaning costs … you’re not going to believe this. $ 95. (You can save yourself a «medical vacation» to India. Woo!)
I am very happy with my experience. Don’t believe me? My sparkling metal smile proves it.

Dr. Kim is my new favorite dentist! My first visit to 1^st Dental was fabulous. I have never had a dentist take the time she did to make sure all of my questions were answered. When there was an issue, she brought in Dr. Feng for a consultation and together we discussed my problems. Granted, I have to go back for a root canal, which I’ve never had before, but I’m assuming it will be done as professionally as the waterlase procedure I had for a filling at this visit. I’m actually looking forward to going back.

I’ve switched dentist time and time again, and FINALLY found someone who is competent and cares. Dr. Frank Feng filled two cavities using a painless technology called waterlase. It’s substitutes painful shots and hours of uncomfortable numbness. Dr. Feng personalized my care like no other dentists. He took me personally to his lab technician to color match my crown after a professionally painless root canal by a top endodontist, Dr. Yuler. When the crown was completed we returned to the lab technician to ensure proper fitting and color. It was the most pleasant dental visit. The high tech’ed office is filled with helpful staffs. It’s comforting to know that when I’m in Chicago I have a reliable dentist.

I’ve been going to 1^st Dental for 3 years and they are the best and offer affordable prices (even though I do have insurance!) I’ve had root canals, fillings, my teeth cleaned, crowns ALL done here. Dr. Frank Feng and Dr. Kim are awesome, and they do use state-​of-​the art waterlase (water laser) technology for cavity fillings. It’s amazing!
