Find My Apartment

Showing the Apartment:
Herded in and out of the place. The agent did not know much about the place — as the current tenant was there, correcting the agent during the tour
We couldn’t pass up the apartment since it had everything we wanted. So…
Signing the Lease:
Trying to get in contact with the Agent was like pulling teeth. Pick up the phone & reply to emails is a simple task that they did not comprehend. We’re paying you, for what?
Getting the Keys:
Similar communication issues as experienced with the lease signing. If I didn’t reach out to FMA multiple times, I’m not sure I would’ve gotten the keys on time — and I say «on time» loosely. When I got the keys, it was 5 hours after I was promised them. Though an apology came with that, I felt like this wasn’t their first rodeo.
Addressing Repairs:
Made little effort to address repairs with the landlord that I brought up multiple times, especially since the previous tenants said they were slow to fix things in the past. Still waiting for things to be addressed.
In short, I found FMA to be unprofessional, lacked knowledge of the property, could not have been more vague in the emails, and lacked time management. If this isn’t for you, then save your time. Find an apartment that is not listed by FMA.

I had a horrible experience dealing with this company — particularly with Robert (Bob) McCormick.
My roommate and I were looking for an apartment and had been going back and forth with a few of these apartment leasing agencies trying to find the ideal apartment. We found one we wanted to see, but someone from another apartment agency told us that it had been rented out. We moved on, but Bob continued to list it on craigslist. I emailed him, asked if he was sure it was available and set up an appointment to view it.
I called him that morning to confirm our appointment at noon. He didn’t answer and didn’t call me back. When we showed up at the unit and he wasn’t there I called him again, and again he did not answer. I then found an office number in an email he sent me so I called that number. The secretary said he was out of the office, and I informed her that we had an appointment with him and he was already 10 minutes late. She apologized and said that she would get a hold of him and I would get a call back shortly.
After another ten minutes, Bob TEXTS me «Need to cancel for now. It’s possible that the unit may have been rented.» So he’s blowing me off after he’s already 20 minutes late, and doesn’t even have the decency to call me? He sends a text and doesn’t even apologize. Real nice buddy!
Fast forward another week, and good ol’ Bob is still listing this unit on craigslist for rent. The place looked really nice for the price, so we decided against our gut to reach out to Bob again. Since I had replied to Bob’s text with a few choice words, we decided that my roommate should reach out to him this time and we’d pretend like the previous encounter never happened. They setup an appointment, but he also decided to follow up with Bob the day before to make SURE the place was available. My roomie mentioned that he had heard from another agent that the unit might be rented, and Bob proceeded to grill him with questions about where he heard this from. He assured us it was available and that he would see us tomorrow.
That next morning he left the roomie a message saying that the current tenants had guests in town for the Thanksgiving holiday and they did not want the apartment shown that day. So not only is this the 2^nd time that Bob blew us off, but for some reason there are tenants living there. I’m not sure when they planned on moving out, but if our appointment is on November 27^th, and our moving date is December 1^st, that means in 3 days the apartment would have to be vacated, cleaned, painted, etc. I doubt that was going to happen. The more likely scenario is that Bob was misinforming us and being irresponsible.
After reading other reviewers having the same issue, my advice would be to avoid this place at all costs. If you find your dream apartment listed by Bob and decide that you must call, be prepared for disappointment and wasting your time.

Find My Apartment was a life saver for me! Searching for a new apartment had been a nightmare in the past and I did not feel like searching Craigslist again. They were so helpful and made it pain free.
I told them my absolute must haves in an apartment and was quickly given a list matching my needs. We saw only three apartments before I found the perfect one, two in Bucktown and one in Roscovillage. I was impressed with all three but loveddd one of the Bucktown units and was so excited when my application was approved!
Nate was a wonderful agent and was able to get me into my new place that has exceeded my expectations. I am very happy with my experience and will recommend to friends!

Last spring, I rented an apartment that was listed with Find My Apartment Chicago. Shortly after move-​in, I learned that the building was in foreclosure, which of course means I was in danger of losing my security deposit. The situation was eventually resolved, but not without some significant stress.
As regards FMA, there are exactly two possible scenarios:
1) FMA did not know foreclosure papers had been served on the building at the time they rented to me… in which case they’re incompetent.
2) FMA did know, and rented the apartment anyways, without disclosing this knowledge… in which case they’re unscrupulous.
Neither bodes well for you.

We have since been refunded our deposit and the owner/​broker of FMA explained that, because many property owners use multiple listing agents/​companies, they were unaware of a pending application at the time ours was processed. The owner of the property had not kept all listers informed.
I was assured that it is definitely not FMA’s policy to take application money on units with other pending applications.

I was supposed to meet a rep at an apartment at 6. After 15 mins of standing around, waiting for him to show up, I called his office number. He had obviously forgotten and said he’d be there in 10 minutes. A few minutes later, he called to say he couldn’t come, and that I should just knock on the apartment door and ask to see it myself. Hi, can you say «unprofessional»?! He said it would be fine b/​c they knew it was going to be shown. Or not. The tenant had never heard of the rep and had no idea the apartment was scheduled to be shown. Luckily, the tenant was totally cool and let me look around, even answered some questions. FMA Chicago though? Two thumbs down. The only reason they got one star is because the rep actually returned my call the very first time I left a message for him.
