El Metro

I did like 2 out of my 3 tacos. I think it’s was the Alambre? That was not pleasing. It had an overbearing amount of cinnamon on it. The chicken molé was good & the taco with the pablano peppers & goat cheese was excellent. My partner & I couldn’t get enough of the gauc & chips. I did not like the fact that the tacos were really small for $ 3. North & Pulaski are like double the size. I would not seek this place out but if I was in the area I would stop in as I know that I can get some decent food.

Awful delivery. Ordered, they sent confirmation that my food is being prepared. I check in an hour later to find out that they closed down and never bothered to fulfill my order or to notify me. Unacceptable, unprofessional. Avoid!

They serve beer now! I just had a microbrew beer with their 3 taco special… flan and horchata are simple and perfect for a light dessert.

I tried El Metro today for the first time through Cater2Me. We use Cater2Me at my office now for lunches and today it was El Metro! My office went nuts! Everyone loved the Chicken dish and the guacamole was unbelievable! We also tried the pork which was good but I personally loved the chicken. It came with a huge salad portion and warm tortillas. We couldn’t have been happier with the catering today, I hope to dine in at some point and try some other things off the menu!

We ordered online, got to restaurant and they had not checked their orders… it was not prepared. Rude service and the food was lackluster. The deal breaker was the stale chips served with guacamole. Never again.

I love the alambre pollo taco, carne asada taco, and pescado taco. Not a fan of the pork belly taco. Overall great flavor. They now accept credit cards with $ 10 minimum.

I enjoyed this place. I was a little put off by the smell of cleaning solution when I walked in. Well, it wasn’t that strong but it smelled like an old mop in bleach. I got used to it after a while.
Taco Tuesday was today. Any two tacos and rice and beans for $ 8. Looking back, I should’ve just gotten the two tacos, since I didn’t finish the rice or beans. I wasn’t very impressed by the rice or beans. They weren’t anything special and they’re normally $ 2 each. For tacos, I got the Carne Asada, which I highly recommend. I liked the seasoning. I also got the Mole Con Pollo. I guess I didn’t know what I was getting, but it was really mushy and didn’t suit my taste.
The guac and chips were $ 7. The guacamole was good but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t make at home. I liked the warm chips. I didn’t think there was enough quantity to be worth $ 7.
They serve beers here, which is nice. It’s definitely a lot nicer inside than most of the Mexican places in the area. It’s tough competing with all the restaurants on Chicago Ave!

Talk about killer tacos! I was excited to stumble upon this place as my boyfriend and I are always searching for a new Mexican spot. The woman working the counter was extremely helpful and thoroughly explained the menu and gave us her reccomendations. We started with the cheese chicharron and let me tell you… it was heaven. Basically a giant cone of cheese that has been fried to perfection. It was served with salsa and Guac to dip! Between the two of us we tried a variety of other menu items including the cactus taco, mole taco, mushroom tostada, fish taco, and the flautas. I must say that we thoroughly enjoyed everything we tried and appreciated the authentic yet innovative options. Definitely will be back here soon.

My husband and I love this place. We live nearby and it has become our go to for when we have people visiting or just don’t feel like cooking. The food is delicious and we have liked everything we have tried here. My favorites are the carne asada tacos and the esquites which has a kick and I absolutely love! Furthermore the prices here are pretty good giving us an affordable option in the neighborhood.
So far, we have only picked up food to go and haven’t eaten there. We’ll be changing this as the weather gets better. I highly recommend this place!

This place is delicious. The fish taco is my favorite, chicken flautas are so good and the tacodilla… Amazing. Great flavors! This is definitely my go-​to place when I don’t feel like cooking!

Im sitting in the restaurant writing this review because I am in love. I decided to stop here for lunch, the whole restaurant is so cute and looks clean. I had the taco Tuesday special, and picked one Asada and the other Rajas. The tacos were delicious and were authentic. I also loved the fact that they had Novelas playing on the TV. I will definitely be returning and trying their other stuff as well as their margarita!

El metro is a solid place for some mexican food. The interior has a nice modern feel and is brightly lit. The menu is nicely laid with an «el» theme. Very cool. I’ve been here a few times and it’s never disappointed. For 7 $ burritos they are pretty legit. A tad smaller than chipotle, but they also dont load up on things like beans and rice. The burritos are primarily meat, which I love. Definitely more meat than chipotle gives. Also important– the burritos come with guac, no added charge. The kitchen is behind the scenes, so you’re unable to view them making your meal. Wait times usually aren’t bad, but can sometimes surprise you. Good selection of drinks, whats a burrito without a jarritos? $ 10 minimum credit charge.

My honey and I are working our way through the «Chicago Taco Bucket List: 40 Tacos to eat before you die» recently published by Thrillist. So today we ended up at El Metro, which made the list for their fish tacos. We were greeted by a lovely young lady who explained their Taco Tuesday special (how lucky for us that we came on Tuesday!!!) which consists of any two tacos on their menu (except the fish, which we specifically came for … ha!), a side (choice of beans, corn, or chips), and a fountain drink for $ 8.
(Note: the restaurant’s Unilocal!listing indicates they only accept cash. Needs to be updated since they do accept credit/​debit cards with a minimum $ 10 purchase).
We both had the special with a cochinita pibil taco (slow roasted pork with pickled onions and habañero sauce) and a carne asada taco (marinated ribeye steak with sauteed onions and cilantro). For our sides he got the chips, I got the beans, and we shared both. Of course, we also got the fish tacos recommended by Thrillist. Everything was delivered to us on adorable fuchsia-​colored plates. The tacos came in little metal taco holders which made it easy to put down the taco between bites (if you’re proned to do so). I thought that was clever and practical, but I’m a girl. I can feel a hundred people rolling their eyes right now … ha!
Of the three tacos I had I liked the carne asada best for the flavor of the meat, which was seasoned especially well. The cochinita was very tender and I thought the pickled onions were a nice touch (pickled onions are my newest obsession!). The fish taco was gorgeously dressed with red cabbage and pico de gallo. The menu says there is a mango salsa and Valentina picante sauce (which I love and I buy all the time at the supermarket). I’m not sure that I actually got mango salsa on mine because I didn’t taste it. Perhaps it was overpowered by the picante? Still, it was a very yummy taco indeed.
I’m going to have to go back because I must try the flautas and the chicken mole taco as well as the buñelos.
Bottom line: good good, reasonably priced, nice décor, good service. That’s all this girl needs!

I had the worst delivery experience with this place, I contacted Grubhub and they told me that this restaurant uses their own delivery couriers. The total for my order was $ 24, which grubhub had verified an EVERYTHING– but when the driver arrived, he demanded $ 30 from me, essentially tipping himself. WHAT? I was completely floored by his behavior, and the fact that he had charged me essentially whatever he wanted! He gave me no change, and took money from me, for the amount he wanted (he had tipped himself $ 6), and then just left. Of course I was going to tip my delivery person, but the fact that he just took whatever amount he wanted completely disgusted me. Not okay.
I ordered once again, and the fish taco was ridiculously salty, the pambazo was missing potatoes, and the carne asada taco was also missing potatoes… And also quite flavorless. Average food, poor service.

This place is amazing. The costumer service is excellent and the food is truly reminiscent of what you would find in a taco place in Mexico City. The owners created an awesome environment that conveys an authentic «chilango» vibe.
This is my new favorite in Chicago!

Ive seen this place open for a while and the main reason l did not go in is because the place is empty and it looks like a mental hospital .
For those who do not know, the chicharron taco was probably the best. Simple and truly yummy Mexican taco. I can see why lot of Americans do not care as much for the consistency of the taco, but for me it was yummy. I like it so much l returned again, but l have to agree that the décor is annoying. Who painted those walls? They are not inviting to anyone. The air conditioning was off the second time l came in and the stands on the plates are pointless, the drinks were warm and overall the place will stay open for the next 2 years until the absent owner decides, it makes no sence to pay rent for an empty business.
Oh yah, they do not accept any credit cards making it more annoying overall.
They do have an ATM that charges you 2.50 or so per transaction. Thanks. Ill pass

Dropped in yesterday for a round of tacos after leaving the Mariano’s nearby… I’m going to come back to confirm this, but this is the best across-​the-​board round of tacos I’ve had in Chicago. Yes, this is bold, but my wife and I were sober and our eyes were wide open… this place blew us away.
We tried six of the seven tacos (we skipped the pork belly/“chicharron”), and all six were items I would get again. All of the tortillas were fresh, all of the meats, beans, filler and sauces were incredible, and all of them were a good size for the bordering-​on-​date-​night prices of $ 3 per taco ($ 4 for the fish). We also got the «Kidsadilla» for our one-​year-​old and an order of rice and beans, and got all of this for $ 27 (cash only). Large space featuring some TVs so that I could watch the Clips/​Rockets game yesterday while taking down these tacos… service was very fast (granted, it was empty at 5:30 PM on a Sunday, but still). Delivery is an option here also, and the fee for delivery is only a buck if you order on a Wednesday.
Very strong first impression. I’ll come back in a month to see if I was dreaming.

Average tacos that are overpriced.
Ordered six tacos and the elote dish. Got six tacos with zero elote dishes. Nobody else was in the restaurant at the time, so there should have been little confusion about my full take-​out order. Later, I realized that I did not pay for the elote, therefore, no overall harm done.
The fish tacos were good, but at $ 4, I was a touch unimpressed.
This place is a cash only business, which is frustrating.
The décor on the inside of the restaurant is fun.
I will be back a couple of more times to try the rest of the menu. Hoping for better results next time.

I’ve never been to a place where chips and guac is the most expensive thing you can order until El Metro. No joke… at 7 bucks a serving it’s about twice the price of almost anything else on the menu and although I didn’t try it this time around it’s gotta be good since all the tacos and flautas were well worth the price.
Only thing I’d opt out of is the Chicharron. The description said it was pork belly but had a consistency more like jelly. It was weird. Other than though, the rest of the spread was all delicious. Excellent green sauce, Mexican Coke, and it’s cash only as an FYI.
Overall a pretty solid spot if you’re a Metro-​mexual.
