I go here and 9 of 10 times get the chicken Diavalo for lunch. It is very hot but I like heat. The rice and beans are seasoned perfectly. The staff is friendly and prompt. Parking adjacent to the building.

The chicken package is a good deal but recently I tried their carnitas torta. It was just as good as their chicken!

I order food from here mostly on weekends and the chicken package is a good deal! Feeds our whole family. Comes with rice, beans, chiles toreados, french fries, guacamole and chips, salsa and tortillas Very tasty and filling. Chicken is never dry. Ive also had their guisados and caldo de camaron and caldo en su jugo. Works great for hangovers! Cant beat 3 minutes away from home. Cheap prices!

I’ve visited El Chisme on several occasions when I was working in the area. Most of the time I was picking up lunch for the guys. Ordering a dozen steak tacos to take back to the job site. Fast friendly service, good prices on the food and I really liked it. It looks like the big draw is the roast chicken meal. I saw a bunch of folks coming in to get that. They package the meal right there behind the counter and it looks like you get a ton of food. I always had the food to go so I can’t speak to the service, but from what I saw it looked like everyone was well taken care of. Place was clean and the coolers in front were well stocked and organized. I’d definitely go back and would also recommend it to my friends. Cheers!

So, even 3 years later we still go to El Chisme. We don’t go as often since moving from the neighborhood, but still go there pretty regularly. They now offer a «super paquete» special, which is awesome! We get it once in a while. It’s a rotisserie chicken(very moist), tortillas, jalapenos, rice, beans, chips, salsa,(a lot of) guacamole, french fries, and a 2 liter. I can’t remember exactly the price, but it’s a pretty good deal and feeds my family of 5 easily.(We do usually have to have an extra package of tortillas). One thing that is upsetting is the large agua de horchata is now like $ 2.25 or $ 2.50. I guess everything is going up, but when I first realized it, it seemed like a big jump. We’ll still go occasionally though.

My sister had been raving about this so I wanted to try it. We got carryout and they bought 2 rotisserie chickens with rice and beans. The chicken was definitely delicious and juicy and their salsa was amazing and spicy, just the way I like it. The weird thing was that I was more smitten with their rice and beans than their chicken. Their rice and beans tasted just like the ones I used to eat growing up. I also like that they weren’t greasy or dry. I found myself eating tortillas filled with just beans. I am definitely a fan and will go again to try their other food.

My husband and I absolutely enjoy rotisserie chicken and some friends recommended we try this place. We planned on ordering food for take out and talk about extremely fast service. We got the family dinner, which included a whole chicken, rice, beans, tortillas and a 2 liter pop. This is definitely reasonable for what you get. When I unpacked the chicken, it was nice and hot, and they were gracious enough to pre-chop the legs and the breast– that was pretty neat. As far as flavor, the food was good, the chicken was tender and juicy but it could have used a bit more seasoning. I contemplated how many stars I would give this place, and I think I would probably short change them with 3 stars, but they are not quite at the 4 stars. I know for sure I will be back and my husband and I were pretty satisfied. I believe in second chances, and I think this place has potential.

It seems like a ton of mexican roast chicken places opened in Chicago in the last couple of years, El Chisme being my favorite. Their daily special — which consists of a whole roasted chicken, tortillas, beans and rice, and a 2 liter of soda — is only $ 12 and could feed a small family! The chicken is tender, juicy, and delicious. I can’t speak for their other food as I have only ever gotten the chicken, but for the price you can not go wrong. They even deliver!

Well, here’s another of a chain of fast-food chicken places. I only have been in here once since it opened, and the chicken sandwich that I had was so dried out I was wondering if they had given me the foot. The food is very expensive to boot for what it is. What El Chisme replaced was Julia’s Restaurant. Julia’s was one of the best-kept secrets on the south side, where one could get a 3 – 4 course completely homemade Polish, Lithuanian, or American dinner for 5 – 6 bucks! The chain moved in, painted everything(including the ceramic tiles) a glossy safety yellow, and left me, the neighbors, and a whole bunch of cops out on the street with no place for a cheap, down-home meal. Waah. I think I’ll go cry now…
