Welcome to Eggy’s, Chicago’s urban family diner. This urban, hip, neighborhood café offers mouthwatering American diner classics with a fresher, lighter spin. When you’re in the mood for some American classics swing by Eggy’s and have a delicious meal in a 1960s diner atmosphere.

Nestled in Chicago’s Lakeshore East neighborhood, Eggy’s was built with the intent to have somewhat of a «Mayberry» feel that was similar to a classic 1960s diner. It is the goal of our staff to create a real sense of community the second you step into Eggy’s. We want the people living and working in area to drop by and a have delicious meal that reminds them good old fashioned home cooking. While we offer great American classics, Eggy’s has placed a large focus on freshness and sourcing local ingredients when possible. We are the perfect place to have a delicious meal all in a comfortable, classic diner atmosphere.

History

Established in 2012.

While the name may conjure visions of breakfasts, the restaurant is actually named after the President of Magellan Development, David Carlins’ childhood friend Robert Mallin, whose nickname was «Eggy,» due to his self-​described egg-​shaped head. Eggy’s friends all characterized by his friends as loyal, fair, and philanthropic. Robert «Eggy» Mallin perfect personifies what Eggy’s is all about; family, friends, and community.

Eggy’s is totally underrated. It’s a bit off the beaten path, but when the wait is long at Wildberry, this place does not disappoint! Breakfast is delicious and service is great! Love their coffee, as well. Quaint little breakfast place that is worth a visit!

So many amazing options here and I chose the French toast mostly because I am boring but this place is not. French toast was delicious and my friend had the crunch Nutella French toast which she said was amazing. Friendly staff and not long waits here. Will be back for sure

We ended up at Eggy’s after searching the area on a Sunday morning when the place we planned to go to had over an hour wait and we were way to hungry to wait an hour just to sit down. We were not disappointed. The staff was very friendly and worked on getting us seated fast even though the place was full.
The food was very tasty and the portions were huge. The food was served fast. We got omelets and a kid’s silver dollar (seven) pancake breakfast. The potatoes were not my favorite as they were pretty dry and I was a bit disappointed they didn’t have rye toast but other than that the food was great. We ended up taking some pancakes with us as it was too much at the time but ate them later together and they were tasty even when cold.
I would definitely recommend this place and plan on visiting again when in the area.

Okay food but… well.
Sat down looking forward to a satisfying breakfast. Omelette was slightly over done, potatoes were boring, english muffin was good.
Great to have a carafe of coffee at your disposal for refills.
My problem, the dude roaming around that had a head cold? who was wiping his nose with his finger, hand, arm etc my final I gotta go was when he blew his nose into a paper towel, tossed it, rubbed his nose bare hand then took a glass if o-​jay from a co-​worker into that hand and carried it to a table.

Been here a couple times when I’m in Chicago… its bound to be one of my must eats when in town.
Here’s why… I sit at the counter to eat, and I witness such positive interaction between employees. Everyone seems to be in the «how can I help» mindset… to each other. Not common in such a busy environment. This reflects in the service to those who eat here. My water is always full, coffee refilled, friendly service. Not fake, genuinely laid back and efficient.
Oh yeah… The food is good, too! Classic breakfast diner fare, and more. Enjoy this place!

We stopped in on a weekday morning last week, and it was busy enough that the only open seats were at the counter. I would’ve preferred a table, but it ended up working out! Steve (I think was his name) was amazing! He gave us great suggestions on the menu and was extremely friendly. He was working incredibly hard. I don’t think I saw him stop moving one time, and even with the high volume he was keeping everything clean.
The service was excellent, and the food was also deserving 5 stars. My boyfriend had a biscuits and gravy eggs benedict (called the Country Benedict?). I had a make-​your-​own omelette with a pancake on the side. Everything was excellent.

This place is just satisfactory… if we calibrate our barometers here. I’ve been to many diners and a few in Chicago. This place isn’t BAD… but it just isn’t particularly good or great either. In fact, it’s downright underwhelming depending on your standards (and if you’ve tried out Wildberry before).
I live right across from Eggy’s and have been there twice. Once on a busy Sunday morning and on a very dead Wednesday early afternoon. I tried out the Mexican Skillet, Chocolate Chip Pancakes, their OJ, and coffee — all of which were just «ok». Perhaps other items on the menu are tastier or generally better.
The bigger selling points for this place would be:
(1) Reasonable wait time to get seated. Wildberry, in contrast, requires extraordinary tolerance of being «hangry» for an extended period of time.
(2) Solid service from staff
(3) Location
If I choose to come back, it’ll be out of convenience rather than excitement for the menu.

We wanted a good breakfast place and we definitely hit the nail on the head here!
The portions are HUGE and absolutely delicious! I got the Nutella French Toast. It is French toast with peanut butter in the middle, topped with Nutella, bananas and strawberry. TO DIE FOR!
My boyfriend got the eggs Benedict with pulled pork. He said it was amazing. Their breakfast potatoes and big and delicious! We also got a side of corned beef hash which was cooked to perfection! The OJ is freshly squeezed. Beware though, it’s a bit pricey! Our meal came out to about 45 $, for two people. Still delicious tho!

I live and work close to Eggy’s so its a frequently week day lunch or weekend breakfast spot. While it can get crowded– its nothing compared to the lines of tourists that form at wildberry. One day friends from out of town suggested Wildberry– a 90 minute wait. we were seated at Eggy’s in under 30. Plus there is a park across the street so better place to wait then on Randolph.
The service is always prompt and my coffee gets refilled regularly and with out asking (a huge plus in my book). I’ve never tried anything here I’ve been disappointed in but I had a friend who was underwhelmed by a tuna melt (fairness– its a tuna melt, its hard to be anything but underwhelmed)
My suggestion– try the Black bean burger, its my favorite in the city

Super excited to try out this brunch place. Got a bit lost on the way there, but it’s basically next to the lower level of Mariano’s. There wasn’t much of a wait (~5 minutes) at noon on a Saturday, which is amazing for brunch in the city.
I got the verb omelet and upgraded to the speciality pancake — strawberry and lemon. The omelet was decent and came with potatoes on the side. Plenty of veggies and the egg whites made the verb omelet a relatively healthy choice. The pancakes were very good. Loved the lemon mascarpone and strawberry combo. The portions are perfect for a two-​in-​one meal. I finished everything and didn’t feel too stuffed. The value was very good. Our server was really nice and the ambience was cute and chill, perfect for a casual weekend brunch.

Been twice now. Good place.
Décor: None. Basic industrial maybe.
Service: Excellent, well organized with a coffee pot left on the table.
Food: I’ve had eggs and I’ve had a pecan waffle. Both were very good.
This is a nice dependable breakfast place for us. No huge tourist crowds. A complete menu with plenty of choices to wake up to.
When other breakfast places a few blocks away have long lines, we’ve been able to get in here. Probably because of the out-​of-​the-​way location, although it was busy both times mid-​morning on weekdays.

It is kind of a hidden gem just north of Millenium Park. When other downtown breakfast places have an hour waiting list, head to Eggy’s.

Friendly casual atmosphere about a 3 minute walk from the Swissotel out the back door and through a tiny hidden oasis of trees and flora. I read reviews and even tho biscuits and gravy were not on the menu they obliged cheerfully. Despite being 8 am they also graciously served my husband gyros for breakfast! Very reasonable latte … Cheaper and better than Starbucks. People of all ages. Locals and tourists here. Kitchen seemed a little slow, but I was anxious to catch a train ! I loved that easy to sub fruit for potatoes and gluten free options on the menu! They need to add a combo cashier/​hostess instead of 1 waiter doing everything at breakfast. This was our first time here but will be back whenever we are in Chicago and staying at Swissotel and have told my chicago pals they hAve to come here for breakfast or lunch

Eggys is just in the back of Swissotel where I am currently staying. Saturday morning they don’t open until 7:30am, we waited at the Lakeshore Park east. I ordered the Spanish omelette and my spouse ordered cheese and mushroom omelette. We were the first customer of the day, our food arrived within 20 minutes or less. The omelettes were of generous portion, with toast and potatoes. I asked for a to go box, oh and the orange juice are freshly squeezed, no sugar added. I would come back again on my next trip to Chicago. Good food and great and efficient service.

In town visiting and decided to go after reading the reviews. This place does breakfast so simple but so good.
The Eggy’s potatoes are crunchy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. I also got the French toast with fresh blueberries and bananas on top. Soft, sweet and perfectly made.
There was no wait at all, we walked right in around 10am on a Friday and we were seated immediately. Go! You won’t regret it!

Been twice, serves solid food, but if you come after 10 AM then the wait can get long (and is not quite worth it at then).
Spanish omelet had some good meat flavor but the extra sauce was salty (on an already salty omelet) and didn’t add much flavor. Eggy’s Benedict is plated well, but the pulled pork didn’t contribute much flavor and the dish was a bit bland overall. Strawberry banana kale smoothie great (is yellow, not the color I would have guessed). The sausage in the American Skillet didn’t shine through, and so the dish was an average mishmash of breakfast foods. And if you want to eat healthy you can substitute fruit as a side, but disappointingly they do not give you more than 5 small pieces. The pancakes as a side are solid.
In the end, Eggy’s is convenient, has good service, has that quaint atmosphere, and I will keep returning. It seems like a lot of dished could use some stronger meat flavoring, so keep that in mind when you order.

Breakfast was good, service was better. Just a solid breakfast diner with what you’d expect. I’d say 3.5 stars but don’t know how to do that on Unilocal.
Servers don’t rush you, food came out timely and the quality was there. For the simple things, this is important. Good coffee but they do need to get better bagels (after having NYC bagels, every other town is a bit lacking). Would certainly go back for breakfast.

Eggy’s Diner is tucked away in a surprising nook just north of Maggie Daley and Millennium Parks and east of Michigan Avenue by Mariano’s. It’s faces the rather isolated grassy courtyard of the surrounding skyscrapers making it feel like a community joint rather than a tourist trap. In fact, my friend informed me that she’s been able to come to Eggy’s Diner and avoid the crowd of popular downtown events.
Eggy’s has large front windows, high ceilings, and a fun but industrial-​like décor. The employees were all friendly and timely.
I ordered the Chicken and Waffles. There was half a chicken (with the bones) on top of my waffle. It tasted delicious — the crispy batter and skin and the juicy meat inside. It was a pain to eat around the bones especially since they were all attached to one another. It understand the merits of cooking chicken with the bones, but it would have been nice to pick up a leg without having to amputate it first.
I was stuffed by the end of my meal but momentarily considered a milkshake. They seem to have delicious ones. The server explained that they are all large and that made me decide against it. I wanted something smaller after eating half of a chicken and a waffle.
