Doubletree by Hilton Chicago Magnificent Mile

This is absolutely the shittiest hotel in Chicago. If you’re reading this, PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE! I know it seems cheap, which is why you want to book it, but I had the worst hotel stay experience of my life here. The staff is grossly non-​responsive and downright rude and the rooms suck. I travel a lot and have stayed at an insane amount of hotels, including a lot of Hilton properties, but this has undoubtedly been my WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. The hotel makes is money through made up charges and will treat you like shit.

I will start by saying I found an AMAZING deal for this room on Groupon, which ended up costing me $ 80 for a city-​view King suite on a Saturday night. can’t beat it!
The room was very clean and had a cozy feel to it, despite the hustle and bustle just nine floors below. The staff was quite friendly and we were also given warm chocolate chip cookies upon check-​in …YUM!
I wish it had been a bit closer to where my partner and I were hanging out for the night, but for the price and location it was unrivaled.

From the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out which is just a days’ stay the doubletree did a tremendous job at keeping me happy. the staff was pleasant even at 3AM, and most guests were kind and polite as well; which can be a determining factor in hotels and accommodations of the like. THe room was top notch with a lounge chair, computer chair, and king sized bed for almost three. 36″ Tv was pretty nice too. Would stay again for the convenience and pleasantness of it all. Thanks.

Price and location are great. We opted to park across the street for 39.00 a night compared to the hotel which was charging 52.00 a night. We unfortunately experienced the room next to us having a fight with hotel security staff and the police because they were up partying and smoking. We had a great view of the lake. We were on the 19^th floor. Our fridge was not a fridge it was a mini bar fridge.

I had an amazing experience at the hotel. The front desk clerk named Veronica was so pleasant and kind. After checking in, she spoke to me about the surrounding areas and where to find street parking. She was gracious and made me feel like I was as welcome as if I was a guest at her home. The room was a good size and the shower head pressure was very strong so I felt like I was getting a massage. I had a nice view of the city from my room as it had bay windows. The room temperature was comfortable and easily adjusted. The mini bar was stocked and ample for my needs (albeit a bit pricey). The breakfast was delicious and I had plenty to eat, as it was a buffet. The bed was so comfortable and we slept soundly. It was very quiet as the walls blocked all noise. I highly recommend this location, our stay was simply divine.

Five star for location (close to grand station).
Three stars for the rooms.
Two stars for the beds. Too soft with zero firmness/​support.
Doubletree is probably my favorite brand out of the Hilton chains (after Hilton of course). I feel like they tend to be more modern and newer than the other brands. Plus they give out unlimited cookies. But the rooms in this hotel was pretty old and in need of a renovation. Mind you, the rooms are still clean and bearable. But they could definitely use a face lift. I likes the lobby however.

If convenience is a major factor in your choice of hotels, Doubletree should meet your needs. It’s all we needed, but if you’re looking for plush and luxurious, this hotel may not be for you. We snagged a competitive rate of under $ 200/​night for our four night stay at the centrally located hotel on Ohio St. After our red eye flight it took us about an hour to get from O’Hare via Blue Line and 66 bus. Our only interaction with the front desk was at check in (which is definitely a positive) when they allowed us into our room several hours before the scheduled check in time.
Our double room got the job done with a view south toward the Chicago River. There was a nice flat screen, plenty of outlets, and sufficient drawer and closet space. Internet is $ 10/​day unless you’re a HHonors member. The air conditioner was a bit noisy when it turned on and the handle on the shower was loose, almost falling off. I guess I really had to to dig to find any negatives.
The concierge and bell hop are located at entry and were helpful for almost anything throughout our stay. We had no issues with leaving our luggage prior to check in and after check out until our departure to the airport. If you drive, self park is $ 52/​night. If you take public transportation as we did, there are 3 bus stops inside of a block from the hotel. The Red Line is about a four block walk west down Grand. If you’re up for walking, all of the major attractions are within a 15 – 20 minute walk depending on how leisurely you are walking.
Depending on the rate, I would not hesitate to stay here again.

We just checked in for a 5 night stay and was greeted with a heavy paint smell in the room. We called guest services to send housekeeping to deodorize the room, and they said we would not be able to switch rooms until tomorrow. My four year old already has allergies, I hope she’ll be OK for one night. I’m not sure why they would make the room available before the paint smell could properly dissipate.
Friendly front desk helped us sign us for hhonors to get free wifi. Warm cookie was a nice touch.
Wish there was a fridge we could use. We usually have leftovers after our meals, and we won’t have a place to put them– they have a refrigerated minibar instead. Also, one of the nightstand lamps is not working.
Edit: yay, lamp fixed! We found the source of the paint smell to be a freshly painted electric panel in the bathroom. It is really bothering us to be sleeping through the paint smell, hopefully they can come through with the room switch asap.
Edit 2: They finally switched us to another room, but it’s much smaller than our original one. I called the front desk at 11, and they told me a room was ready, but when I went down, they said a room was not available. I told them that their front desk said one was ready, and that’s why we had packed everything and came down to the lobby. I’m concerned now about the communication between their staff. Anyways, we’re in our smell-​free smaller room now.
The staff was pretty friendly over the length of our stay. In terms of the rooms, the walls are very thin. When our neighbors returned to their room at 4 am, we could hear them almost as if they were in our room.
The location is fantastic. Walking distance to pier, millennium park, and magnificent mile. Two 24 hour 7 elevens within one block.

I recently planned a corporate event at the Doubletree. Not knowing what to expect (planning an event without actually visiting the venue) I was very anxious. The price for the hotel rooms was unbeatable for Downtown Chicago. The meeting went off without a hitch. We had very helpful staff making sure we had everything we needed. Even the food that we had catered for the meeting was delicious. The staff fulfilled my special requests for my accommodations and the room was very well appointed. The locations is hard to beat – walking distance to Navy Pier and great restaurants and shopping.

We arrived tired and hungry, really hungry, to our hotel. Wasn’t sure whether we can check in early, so my companions and I decided to valet our luggage till check-​in time; grab a bite somewhere close by till then. Lo and behold, Alfredo, our amazing concierge, hooked us up! Alfredo gave us a room on the 19^th floor of the establishment with a great view. We didn’t have to valet our luggage and didn’t have to wait till our check-​in time. :)
Our bedroom was spacious. In it were two queen sized beds, a window bench, TV, large dresser, desk, closet with usual closet things located by the door with mirrored doors, and bathroom with your usual accommodations with one sink. Another sink would’ve been nice for a two bed hotel room. The hotel was walking distance to a lot of the touristy spots in Chicago. It’s approximately a 15 — 20 minute walk to the Sky Deck, Art Institute, Millennium Park, Chicago Riverwalk, Navy Pier, etc.
Lastly, warm cookies. This made our stay so much more welcoming. The cookies behind the desk are available for consumption on all hours of the day and is kept warm. All you have to do is ask.

And… thanks to Taylor at the front desk for giving me and my friends some free warm cookies. Nomnom. Which we found out you can get anytime. After flying in, skipping breakfast, and not ready for lunch leaves 3 girls looking hungry and getting our smell senses super activated.
We had 2 Queen sized beds in 1 room. Pretty nice beds; I slept like a baby. The room was spacious. And I liked the fact we could set our stuff right in front of the view. The bathroom was standard — but doable. Since we had 3 girls to 1 room, the large sink counter was a nice touch since we all had bathroom stuff.
Downstairs they have a neat bar for people who want to chill. They also have some restaurants (I think 2? or 3?) inside.
Oh since this is on MagMile… we were walking distance of lots of things. Wouldn’t mind staying here again if I came back to Chicago.

After calling the front desk twice and finally speaking with CJ, night manager, around 12:30 am, the hotel contacted Priceline to give me a 50% refund.
This fiasco ended with a sleepless night in a smoking room. Customer service partially refunded me.
However, I would have preferred they be honest with me initially and tell me I would be placed in a smoking room. At least, I would have had time to make other arrangements.

We had the most wonderful experience here.
It was a great hotel: nice rooms, bar downstairs, great location.
The best part was the service. They had a truly wonderful staff.
We had an awkward and inappropriate encounter with one of their late night bell men. (I don’t hold the hotel accountable for his actions — during the day when people were around he seemed normal. After hours, he was a very pushy, inappropriate and rude, etc.)
When we brought the incident to the attention of the hotel, they took it VERY seriously and were truly concerned about the ordeal. They more than made up for it with their kindness and offerings. I received a personal letter from the manager with an apology.
It was truly wonderful to stay at a place that was genuinely concerned with the happiness of your stay and making sure you enjoyed every moment. I would definitely come back!

Right from the very beginning, my wonderful relationship with Doubletree by Hilton Chicago Magnificent Mile, had me feeling welcomed with sincere hello there! PLUS COOKIE! Unlimited amounts… just ask, and you’ll surely receive. Nice.
I enter my room, and as asked for, later a fridge is added, which helped me immensely, especially because I’m dealing with a physically, and mentally debilitating illness of Aplastic Anemia, requires for cold temperatures for certain items. Receiving blood transfusions are how I’m able to live and breathe, at a slow pace. Also, recently falling down, my knee is a bit fragile. It’s healing. So during my stay in Chicago, I had to limp a bit, and my gait was a bit off. Also, balance was an issue.
Thank goodness a new Whole Foods Market was only a block away. However, sometimes I stayed in bed, and couldn’t find the ability to walk even a block. One night, I suffered from some sort of food poisoning. All of a sudden I felt like I needed to yak and also run to the john, to get out whatever it was that caused this all of a sudden, emergency.
I was left so weak, that after, I just stayed under my covers, with a high fever, and shivering. My body was trembling and I was in such immense pain. My head felt like it was going to explode. I called the ‘care line’ and immediately asked for assistance. I couldn’t be left alone, and have a bathroom that looked like some horrible freak show.
There are times when you’re sooooooo tired, exhausted, and in pain, that you’re forced to ask for help. I usually try my best to suck it up, and take care of myself, because I’ve lived my life like this for many years… actually ever since my childhood. My parents were too busy trying to survive a world where they were, and still, treated like garbage, because of their culture or race.
Two ANGELS arrived at my door. First was a humble kind lady, named, Fozyia Sred. She never sneered at me, or made me feel like some animal. She treated me with no words, but with gracious, silent, ACTION. Later on, her good friend, named Walter Williams came to help out. AND BOY, did he help me out, too much in fact, that I felt guilty. He was soooooooooooo good to me, and never made me feel ashamed. He acted like what he smelled, and cleaned to absolute ‘cleaniness is next to Godliness’… was just day to day errands. No harm, no foul. Oh, this is just peaches! Oh don’t you worry, you’re are in good hands my dear… just rest and I’ll be out of your hair in a jiffy… OMG… people like this still exist??? THANK YOU GOD, for showing me that truly magnificent, honest, humble, respectful, and just you deserve the Charlie Brown Awards both of you… do in fact exist.
What really added the HUGE CHERRY ON TOP OF THIS GREAT ICE CREAM EVENT… he tried giving back the tip i have him! Telling me that it was wrong to tip him.
MY JAW HIT THE FLOOR,… HUH??? WHAT??? You’re telling me that you don’t deserve that small tip??? YOU DESERVE A MILLION DOLLARS FOR YOUR ONE OF A KIND ACTION AND HUMBLE DECENT HEART!
Truly, the backbone of this hotel, are the hard working cleaning crew, who sweat and repeat difficult hard LABOR. ACTION AFTER ACTION… of just doing the dirty jobs, and sometimes aren’t given the RESPECT, ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, AND PAY for what they do EVERY SINGLE DAY.
I LOVE THAT THIS HOTEL HAS SUCH A GREAT CREW of true brotherhoods and sisterhoods, that WORK TOGETHER.
OH YEA and a HUGE GRATEFUL SHOUT OUT TO: Renee, who i spoke to over the phone. She literally called me back ten times, trying to help me figure out the correct spelling of the two angels that helped me out. SHE NEVER LOST HER COOL. She was just a delightful lady of a very kind voice. It’s wonderful that this hotel, even when you talk to people, they treat you so kindly, even if they have go back and forth and back and forth, to help you out! Renee, sorry that I didn’t get your last name… but your kind sweet patient voice was just jazz to my ears! LOVE YA, Renee! :)

I booked this room at an extremely low rate using the website where you can create your own price. I was very pleased once I found out that we would be staying at the Doubletree at such an amazing price. I called the hotel to advise them that we would be arriving late and they notated my reservation and thanked me for the heads up.
Upon arrival we were greeted promptly by a kind bellman who helped with the luggage and check in was quick. We were given cookies even though it was after midnight and they were awesome. Once we arrived in our room we were surprised at how large this standard double room was. There was a built in bench along the windows where my kids loved to sit and admire the city view and people watch. Even though our room was on the 8^th floor the view was rather impressive.
The room was in acceptable shape, but could use a new mirror molding in the bathroom. The mattresses should be replaced soon in room 803, everytime my husband changed position the whole bed would move. After showering the first morning there, we noticed that the shower was draining slowly, we reported this on our way out and they sent someone to fix it before we returned. This worked for one day but the 3^rd and 4^th night it was draining slowly again. I forgot to mention this to the front desk so it was my fault for forgeting. The hotel provided travel size shampoo, conditioner, soap, and body lotion and they smelled phenomenal. I made sure to use them and pack the extras for future trips.
Overall, I was pleased with this hotel for the crazy low price that I paid. This is not a resort but it is a comfortable, clean hotel in a good location to lay your head after touring the city.

I am a Hilton Honors member, so I’m pretty familiar with the Doubletree brand. This time when I checked in I used the online check in for the first time. This allowed me to select my room prior to arrival. The room I had was very clean and spacious. Of course the main reason you choose a Doubletree is for the warm chocolate chip and walnut cookie.
As far as hotels go I only really care about two things over anything and this hotel does both very well. Those are having really fast elevators and being nice and quiet.
The downside to this particular hotel is location wise being a little far from the train stop. Normally that wouldn’t matter to me but on this partciularly cold day that seven block walk felt like a bit of an eternity.
The staff here is friendly and they answer your concerns very quickly.

Doubletree has built a respectable name for itself in which I began to trust. Therefore, when booking a hotel, I’d choose to stay at one that is known rather than the smaller no-​name ones because I know that there is always a standard that needs to be met. Upon arriving at the Doubletree, I was nervous as to how my experience would be due to the Unilocal reviews I’ve read. Luckily, I had a pleasant stay here.
My reservation was a total of 3 nights. Check-​in time is at 3 PM. I thought this was rather late considering that my plane landed at 12:40 PM, however, the baggage claim, metro ride from Midway and a .8 mile walk from the Orange line, we made it here around 2:30 PM. They let us check in a little bit early without any question and even had a long line formed.
As mentioned by other guests, we received free cookies upon check-​in. Our room was clean and tidy, I did not find any chicken wings or any of that sort underneath my bed. I really enjoy their «Careline» that they had because we kept calling them to ask questions and get a refill on toilet paper. They had toilet paper sent to our door, which was nice. The man who handed me the toilet paper even gave me tissue paper! Score! He was extremely nice and courteous.
However, I had to go to the front desk upon multiple occasions and I felt like there were always people waiting around and the service was a bit slow. It took quite a while for them to figure things out and it seemed like they moved a bit slowly. On the other hand, my friend forgot his toothbrush at home so I went to the front desk and they had complimentary spare ones, yay! (which took a while to get because of the line and wait).
The only complaint my friend really had was that it was so humid in the rooms and the heater system ruined our throats. The location is not too bad and not too far from everything I wanted to visit. It’s about 0.4 — 0.8 miles from everything. It’s also about 0.2 miles or less away from a Walgreens and a Whole Foods.
Check out is at 12 noon, which you can request to extend your stay. I requested for a later check out and got 1 PM. One hour, meh… but I’ll take it. They have a computer in the front where you can print out your boarding passes for free, how convenient! Also, when you check out of your room but still have a while until your flight, you can check your bags in with the bellhop. Everything that they provided at this hotel made my life a lot easier and my trip less stressful.
Overall, I would stay here again if I were to visit Chicago (but probably not because Chicago winter weather was too brutal for this Californian).

During a recent trip to Chicago, I booked some rooms at the Doubletree Hilton a block away from the Magnificent Mile. In addition to offering Northwestern alum discounts, they were at the center of all the tourist attractions the GF’s family was looking to explore.
At first glance, we were a bit unnerved by the fact that there were buckets in the middle of the lobby, catching water dripping from the ceiling above. But luckily, everything was fine by the next day.
As with all Doubletree Hilton locations, we were welcomed with a warm cookie and some bottled water. Who can complain about that? There’s also a bar at this location, which seemed to be a prime spot for people to get drinks before going out. And because the World Cup was on during this time, there was definitely a crowd here during the game.
In addition to the location, one of the main reasons we decided to stay at the Doubletree Hilton was the supposed view of the lake and the rooftop pool. Alas, despite being on the upper floor, there were quite a few buildings that restricted a true view of the lake. And the rooftop pool? It’s on the roof of the lower tower — not an exactly an escape.
The bathroom was the biggest disappointment — definitely hasn’t been renovated since the 90’s and the water pressure was lacking.
On the other hand, the 24 hour gym was just fine. They had free weights and several machines. And for your daily cardio, there were plenty of treadmills and ellipticals.
Overall, if location is key, the Doubletree Hilton will suffice. It’s a bit dated if you’re looking for a luxury experience, but when it’s only $ 175 per night, it’s got pretty much everything you need.

I’ve been here multiple times, and each stay has been pretty great. Every holiday season (if not more times around), there is a TravelZoo offer, which is a fantastic deal. This year in particular, I accidentally was double billed. I caught it prior to our stay, and called the accounting office. They not only reversed the charges, but offered to upgrade us from a Queen to a King with a Lake View! Very generous.
I love walking in here. It’s a comforting hotel, and they offer warm cookies when you arrive. It’s the little things, I tell ya!
Our King room felt very spacious; really, the perfect size. The only downside is that the «Lake» view is more like a bunch of buildings with the Lake in between. We were on the 24^th floor so we couldn’t get much higher (it had 26 floors). We didn’t pay for the upgrade so I was more than pleased, but would highly recommend not paying extra for a «Lake view».
This is a great location to Michigan Avenue shopping and lots of restaurants. There’s not as much variety for a bar scene, but Timothy O’Tooles is a great spot for a night cap.

Out of all the hotels I looked at, I found that this Doubletree gave me the best bang for my buck.
I was able to book this hotel with a great deal on Expedia. My in-​laws were going to be in town and I wanted them to be in a nice hotel that was close to almost everything, especially Navy Pier since they had two young children with them. I loved the décor, very modern and funky. Rooms were roomy and had a nice cushioned bench across the window.
The location is great. Next to many fabulous restaurants and shopping areas like the Magnificent Mile. We were also in walking distance to the Pier.
We stayed here for four nights and the rooms were very comfortable for everyone, except for when there was a huge storm one night. One of our rooms started leaking water from the windows and when we went downstairs to talk to the front staff, they were experiencing an emergency of their own. Turns out that the water had also leaked through to the lobby and right on top of the registration. Computers had to be unplugged, things had to be dried out, and fans had to be brought in. Basically everything was shut down until they could get the situation under control. It was actually pretty funny after it was all said and done. :P
I would stay here again because of the location (and because of the free cookie at check-​in). It’s close to a post office and Walgreens if you need it. Plus there is a Yolk and Potbelly around the corner.
