Dollar General

I would give it one star if it wasn’t for the fact that they close late, are open on most holidays and are the closest to my home.
Otherwise, this place is a piss poor excuse of a store. The employees — I’ve seen maybe three — are rude and unhelpful. I’ve met two young ladies who are great, very helpful and who come around asking if you need help finding something. The other employee — female, heavy set — spends all her time complaining about having to work and pitching her bootleg side job to customers. I get it, it’s a minimum wage job but at least pretend to like it here for our sake.
The lines are long — only one cashier open at a time. The store never seems stocked and items are placed in storage areas like sodas by the toys and lotions by the canned goods.
I go here if I’m feeling too lazy to go to Walgreens. It’s pitiful. Please clean up your act.

I will not be shopping here anymore. The employee I spoke off earlier in the review was very disrespectful towards a non-​English speaker and her child. How dare you say «if that girl gets abducted, I know who to blame.»

I love this store i have lived in the neighborhood for 31yrs everyone is always friendly, i just went in today and was greeted by the Cashier Justine and the floor associate with the long hair i didnt see his name. It is convient and i usually find what i need!

Not a fan of the heavyset cashier with the piss poor attitude today 7−5−15 at 230pm.
She/​He (couldn’t really tell) couldn’t even fake the pleasantries expected from a cashier.
Hello would be nice if nothing more. I got nothing but indifference as if scanning an item for purchase was more effort than he/​she wanted to do. What a poor excuse for an employee.
Your employees are our main interaction with you. I could spend my money at the next $store
simply because of better customer service. Lose the dead weight.
Other than that I like this store. Who doesn’t love a dollar store. Good buys.

They had good things, good prices but only a few like 2 Employes one stoking merchandise and the other a cashier who’s is talking bs to customer making ppl waiting to pay an leave because she’s talking someone where she works a good place to eat to hanging out bla bla blaaaaa girl put your self to work stop talking s#!&

This place is my least favorite place in my neighborhood which I have been in for almost 27 yrs. the staff is the biggest factor of this place being the reason I rather walk to Walgreens. Some of the rudest, laziest, and ghetto people I have seen. Like this neighborhood need more ghetto people in it. The people that work there act like they are in high school talking about each other and the customers in the aisles for everyone to listen. Wish they would have left that space for a better business … Much rather take the time to go to target

I’m sorry that this location, has decided to abandon of our non-​formal alliance of neighbors and businesses who work to improve Logan Square, because I guess it’s more cost effective for Dollar General to lackadaisically ride the wave of change, while doing little to be a leader of it.
This location is no longer «Clean, clean, clean», but in all honesty, it’s not dirty yet. Actually the whole store seems to be on a slippery slope of overall neglect, bordering on chaos. Perhaps it’s understaffed because more often than not, products seem to be in a permanent state of waiting to be shelved, creating obstacle courses throughout the store.
Often while staff move about like molasses, stocking shelves or just being invisible, comically long lines form, that allow us neighbors to discuss the over all decline of this location. professionalism also seems to teeter on the abyss, still somewhat friendly, which means that you still don’t have to worry about them getting pissed off at you for some perceived slight and coming across the counter, but the line seems to be wearing thin as moral appears to have completely dried up.
The only upshot is Coleman, who although unfortunately is not a manager, is reminiscent of the manager who first opened this store, when the Dollar General’s star shined bright. Coleman actually seems like he wants to be there and enjoys greeting and being helpful to people, which I’m sure can be trying sometimes. He’s also engaged in what’s going on around the store, which is helpful at this location because the way groceries are bagged by the cashiers, costumers often end up leaving their purchases behind, but not with Coleman on the job.
I’ve called to complain once, about the above problems and the fact that this national chain allowed gang graffiti to remain on the front of the building for way to long but it’s almost impossible to reach management. And, then when you finally do, I get the feeling that they’re located in some gleaming suburban sky scraper in Arizona, far removed from every day urban life, but if they read Unilocal,I hope they consider promoting Coleman because in the mist of this locations slow rot into chaos, Coleman remains vigilant, holding the Dollar General’s flag high, with professionalism and pride.

I like shopping here you can get name brands for less.
