Derek Olson, DO

I moved out to California from Chicago 4 years ago– and I have still yet to find a doctor even half as good as Dr. Olson. He listened, he cared, he reassured, he would find solutions to whatever my concerns were, and why. I just got back from an awful appointment, and found myself saying yet again, «man, I really miss my old doctor.» My husband and I even talked about flying me back for yearly physicals and just paying out of pocket, because at least he figures out what’s wrong! It’s probably cheaper than the circles I keep having to run out here.

Dr. Olson has been my GP for 5+ years. If I were to ever move from downtown Chicago area, I would still schedule visits to see him for normal annual appointments.
He is genuinely caring and engaged and has always taken time to thoroughly address any questions I may have. In my last three dozen visits, Dr. Olson has never seemed rushed or ended an appointment without asking me if I had additional concerns and usually spends a little extra time just chatting. I have never waited more than 15 minutes past an appointment time in his Sheridan office, which leads me to believe that he schedules time for this personal interaction. I’m also always impressed that he recalls details from previous visits that are not a part of my records. Amazing guy.

Dr. Olson is a great physician and a very nice man. He is a good listener, and is highly skilled and knowledgeable. Of every doctor I’ve ever had, I’ve felt the most comfortable in his care. He takes the time to talk to you about your whole person, not just the symptoms.

Dr. Olson is a wonderful doctor. He was my GP for about 4 years and I would have stayed with him for many more if I hadn’t moved out of state.
He’s very friendly and always takes the time to thoroughly explain a diagnosis or recommendation. He was never impatient, no matter how many questions I had. He took the time to listen to my concerns and was always genuinely interested in hearing my thoughts on the causes or solutions to problems.
His administrative staff and nurses in the Sheridan office are also great. I had an insurance issue due to the mistake of another doctor’s office that required Dr. Olson’s office to provide some additional paperwork. They did so in a timely manner and continued to follow up on their part so that I didn’t have to.
I always saw Dr. Olson at the Sheridan office, except for one time that I was really ill and went up to see him at the Evanston office. The staff in the Evanston office were rude and I ended up waiting for a long time to see the doctor because they forgot to check me in. I never had any issues at the Sheridan office, but the Evanston visit was a nightmare.

I had one appointment and thought the dr was very friendly. But the staff was VERY unprofessional. The person who came out to get me waited 2 seconds for me to shut my phone down (I was txting) and the she turned away and slammed the door. I understand that it is rude to keep people waiting, all I was doing was shutting off the phone. Then she argued with me. Also, they are only affiliated with Resurrection and I have not had a good experience with them either.

After a couple of visits, I am really pleased with Dr. Olson. Not only is he a DO, which I was looking for, he is a great DO! He takes time with you and is really friendly. The first visit he was in a big rush and I was delayed, but he was really apologetic and felt bad about it.
I have done some doctor hopping in Chicago and am glad to report I have found one I am really comfortable with!

Whew! I was so nervous about finding a new doctor. I was scared that I would end up with a horror story. I’m so glad I stumbled upon Dr. Olson!
The office staff was pleasant. I didn’t wait around forever to see the doc. I got called back within a few minutes of my appointment time. Dr. Olson was INCREDIBLY nice! He listened to everything I had to say. Not only did he listen but he addressed everything as well. He recommended a good ‘female’ doctor for me. And even called me at the end of the week just to inform me that all of my blood work came back normal.
I’ve only had one visit with him but he left such a good impression and will be happy to have him as a primary care physician.

Dr. Olson is great !! Dr. Olson really takes time with you and really helps and works with you on what you both feel is the best solution to any condition. I been going to Dr. Olson for a few years now and I am very happy with his staff and services !!

Dr. Olson is as good as it gets. His office is never packed and you never feel rushed. Dr. Olson takes his time and he listens to you, period. No conveyer belt medicine here! How refreshing.

I have had many doctors and Dr. Olson is the best one! And I am very particular about my doctors. Dr. Olson is never in a hurry. He spends time asking you questions, while making you comfortable while you are in pain. He has the best bedside manners, and just genuinely friendly. He’s the only doctor in the clinic, but he and his staff do their best to accomodate you in the best way possible. I have nothing bad to say about him. I wish he was in the Carol Stream area. I moved more than an hour away from him, so he is no longer my doctor. I hope that I will find another doctor as friendly, supportive, and genuine as he is. Keep it up, Dr. Olson.

Dr. Olson is the first doctor I’ve had who I look forward to seeing. He really listens and focuses on figuring out what’s going on with you, rather than just making a quick diagnosis and writing a prescription. You never feel like he’s just trying to get through talking with you so he can get to the next patient. It’s clear that he’s in medicine because he really wants to help people.
He also keeps up-​to-​date on nutritional information, which I appreciate.
Besides all that he’s just a really nice guy who’s not afraid to be a real person with his patients.
Sadly, he’s moved out of Andersonville, but he’s worth making the extra trek for.

Excellent, caring, knowledgeable! It’s a small office, everyone there is friendly, and it’s easy to get an appointment. For me this is saying a lot, because I avoid doctors like, well, the plague.
