ohhh they are rough! the receptionist put me on hold for 15 minutes and said she is very busy and after 15 minutes when she picked up the phone, she refused to answer my question (how much dr is charging for… she didnt even let me finish!) and didnt even wanted to call me back to answer my question so i said ok i will call back later! really

Dr. Toriumi has been nothing short of amazing. I had multiple previous rhinoplasties with another Chicago physician that caused many complications. The only person I trusted to fix this was Dr. Toriumi. From beginning to end, he has been honest and supportive, and most importantly kind. My results are amazing compared to what he had to work with. I truly believe he is the only one that could’ve given me these results. I would recommend him to my family and my own children if they needed surgery.

I previously had two rhynoplastys done by two Drs that left me with no structure and terrible results. I even went back to the second dr to ask if he could fix it and he refused to touch my nose again. My nose kept getting worse and worse, after about 2 years of living like this I finally heard of dr Toriumi. He used rib and ear cartilage to rebuild it. My nose looks very natural and looks like I had nothing done. I’m very happy with my results and I only wish I’d known about him before. Its worth every penny I paid. He and his staff are very professional and super friendly. Highly highly recommend him!

It’s been 6 months since I had my rhinoplasty/​septoplasty surgery with Dr. Dean Toriumi. Words can not express how happy I am with the results. I have never had surgery before and was very hesitant to chance anything, especially on my face. However, it came to a point where my breathing and appearance of my nose became very bothersome. September 2014 I decided to start looking into surgeons.
I extensively researched all the doctors in the Chicago, NY and LA area (Chicago is home). I researched the surgery I needed, used Unilocal and other web-​based sites to read reviews. I also talked to people I know who have had rhinoplasty as well as spoke directly to other surgeons (I work in the medical industry, specifically surgery). I asked every surgeon I worked with following question «if your wife was to have a rhinoplasty, who would you send her to?»
EVERY SINGLE DR. SAID TORIUMI!
I still wanted to feel comfortable with my decision, so I scheduled a consultation with 2 doctors. I was able to get my first consult with Dr. Shah and then a few week later with Dr. Toriumi.
I immediately felt comfortable with Toriumi from my first consult. He is a brilliant physician. He is soft spoken and really gets down to business. To be candid he is not warm and fuzzy and that’s simply because he’s busy. He takes the time to address your needs and wants as well as answer all questions. If your more concerend with a bedside manor then results then maybe he is not your guy. But, personally I’d rather have a phenomenal outcome than a great converstation. Dr. Toriumi’s craft is constructing the nose to fit your facial features. It’s truly an art form in order for it to not look like a typical nose job. He is very meticulous to ensure what he changes is what’s best for your face. Everyone I know has responded saying how great and natural my nose looks. It’s truly perfect and I can finally breathe.
If there is one thing you remember about my review let it be this– You have 1 face and 1 chance to truly get it right. Why roll the dice? DO IT ONCE AND DO IT RIGHT. Do your research!
Toriumi is pricey don’t get me wrong, but you will spending more money and time fixing a surgery your not happy with.
I cannot say enough about Dr. Toriumi’s and his office staff. They made me feel extremely comfortable and took the time to explain every step of the process to me. Anytime I called in with a question, they were quickly responsive. The staff was also very accommodating to my busy work schedule. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Toriumi to all my family and friends. He is simply the best!

Dr. Toriumi performed my 3^rd deviated septum surgery. After careful research and meeting with several other surgeons, I knew Dr. Toriumi would complete this surgery with the ease and comfort I was looking for.
Pre surgery we met and discussed options about the procedure so I was comfortable. Post surgery follow up has been consistent, professional and friendly amongst the whole staff at Dr. Toriumi’s office.
I have had the most pleasant experience one can have with this type of surgery from pre op to post op, the nurses, receptionist and Dr. Toriumi deliver the best care. Each visit moves quickly so there isn’t a lot of waiting to see the doctor.
I am happy I have chosen Dr. Toriumi for such a life changing event that has resulted in better breathing and an aesthetically pleasing nose.

I went to Dr Toeiumi with a collapsing nose and no ability to breath through my nose.
I had seen other surgeons who didn’t feel they could manage my case properly.
I didn’t really like Dr Toriumi. He was arrogant, unfriendly and I never felt were on the same page in what my needs were medically and cosmetically.
I figured I didn’t need to like him as long as he could take care of the problem.
He felt very sure I would be breathing better after surgery.
The day after I sent in for a post op and told the Dr. I felt like I had a cold.
I didn’t have on the day before. He just put me on Allegra and told me it was allergies.(never had them before). Never asked about it again although I did tell him it was no better.
A year and a half later my nose is still hard. The tissue has not softened. I am constantly congested and have more problems breathing now than I did before surgery.
It has claimed my sleeping ability as well.
To add insult, I paid everything upfront and now they are billing me for an additional 1,000.00. I am completely dissatisfied and I may bring suit against him for the problems I’m having now. This surgery cost me a fortune, and I feel I was ripped off.
My advice, stay away.
He is so full of himself. He could care less about his patients.

Took our daughter to this so called doctor. What a joke!!! Her nose is still hard as a rock and very wide. Our daughter was born with a cleft pallet and a deviated septum. Doctor was supposed to open up the septum and shorten the nose. WOW what a butcher job. Her nose looks like sh-​t. This guy has the rudest staff on the planet and he is clueless. On the day of our surgery his assistant did nothing but down play all his bad reviews. Please take my advice, RUN! Find a better surgeon. This guy is bad, really bad. You won’t be happy.

I had surgery with him 12 years ago, and his excuse for leaving me with a nose that was *nothing* like I asked for was that «it would help me breathe better» (to make the the tip wide) and «it would age better with time» (to project out the tip with a cartilage graft). Well, both things turned out to be false. My breathing started to suffer because the huge grafts he put in my tip started to block my airway after a few years. I am a mouth breather now. These are called lateral crural struts (made out of cartilage in my septum), and I’ve felt them sitting in my nose like a hard piece of cardboard for 12 years (google it — you’ll see why they’d be uncomfortable) They are mostly used for revision surgery or reconstruction — NOT first-​time rhinoplasty (which is what I went in for). He made my tip too projected by using a «columellar strut» graft, and it sticks out like pinnochio, especially as I’ve aged and my other features don’t project like this. Kissing someone with a hard piece of cartilage in my nose has been awkward (my nose can’t be pushed in at all) and the distance between my nose & lip is exaggerated. My nostrils were made quite asymmetrical, and even my professional work photo looks like I had one nostril (all amateur photos look this way). In his imaging, he lowered my nostril rims from the side. But in reality, they have only gotten higher — especially with time. So, I look like I am flaring my nostrils all the time.
He gave me a large radix graft (even though I asked him NOT TO) which I’ve hated for 12 years. It’s so bad that I was willing to have a visible scar by my eye to have it removed — but doctors were uncomfortable doing that due to the nerves and blood vessels there. For the first 5 years, I could hardly find any doctors to revise this nose at all because Toriumi’s methods were so «innovative» that nobody knew how to undo them (now they’re simply seen as inappropriate). Now, I can get a revision of one this nose for $ 20,000+. But, since he has altered the anatomy so drastically, there’s absolutely no guarantee my revision will look any better. My nose is quite asymmetrical, which he refused to acknowledge at first. Then, he said he did it deliberately because my mouth does not line up perfectly with the midpoint of my eyes. So, he put my nose on a slant! Naturally, NONE of this was discussed beforehand (the hard tip grafts & slanted nose — all non-​consensual despite 3 – 4 pre-​op visits)
To make things even worse (and somewhat insane) — when I was seeking a revision, I used to post on rhinoplasty message boards about my situation & how much I hated what he did to my nose. Inevitably, a poster would show up and randomly throw out personal info about me. Toriumi was the ONLY one who knew the info that was shared. Then, as more & more unhappy patients of his congregated online, we actually formed a private message board of 14 people — most of whom went to Calvert, Davis, or Frankel for revisions by now. Before we made our private board, we were posting on a public rhinoplsaty message board — and we were relentlessly harassed by an anonymous person who had NO interest in rhinoplasty. The only goal of that person was to undermine every post we made about Toriumi (the person ignored posts about other docs) & state how we were delusional or generally harass us in other ways. The moderator of the website got the IP address & it was someone in Massachusetts, possibly hired to do this (I cannot imagine any other motivation). So, that was an insane experience to go through.
All I wanted was a SIMPLE reduction in the width of my tip that would’ve taken any doctor 45 minutes to do (and it could have *easily* been done without the open approach that creates more swelling & trauma — that he insists on doing) There was no need for grafts, from what 10+ different doctors told me in the last 12 years as I searched for a revision. Instead, I got EIGHT grafts carved out of my septum, permanent discomfort from these grafts, a cross-​eyed appearance from the abnormally large radix graft, long term breathing problems, and an asymmetrical pinocchio nose — all in a 3 hour surgery. Then, I got harassed online for years. I heard that he now makes people sign a form that they won’t talk about him online or post reviews (except for the few positive ones, I guess). The person who referred me to him (whose nose he rebuilt after a bad primary surgery) no longer looks good either.
He wanted me to come in like once a month for the whole first year, but he wouldn’t listen to any of my concerns. They were just for his own personal knowledge of how his (essentially experimental) surgery turned out. He would just run out of the room after 5 minutes. My mom actually had to come with me and block the door to prevent him from running out when I wanted my problems addressed. But, there’s really nothing he can do once the surgery is over.

Incorrect billing practices. Look elsewhere. We went in for a consult, they billed us for a procedure that was never performed. We have asked them multiple times to correct the error but they refuse. I am glad there was more than one person to witness the error personally. Look elsewhere in a hurry. They are very quick to ask for money but when you point out that the services they are billing for services that were never performed then they start to get amnesia. They also do not bill insurance, they want cash first and then it is up to you to work it out with your insurance. It is simple, there are clear billing codes called CPT codes for certain procedures. There is no ambiguity. If you didn’t perform a procedure you cannot bill for a procedure. Their billing staff proclaims ignorance, «Oh, let me look into that for you.» Warning, stay away from this practice. No attention to detail. At least you would think they could bill correctly. If they can’t bill correctly what else are they getting wrong? Kind of scary if you ask me. A joke. We found a great physician in the suburbs and could not be happier.

I chose Dr. Toriumi for his expertise in secondary rhinoplasty, given the extensive functional and aesthetic problems of my nose. He is an excellent surgeon, whom I would trust with any plastic surgery need. His skill and precision are exceptional, as is his commitment to achieve the best possible outcome. I am very happy with the result and finally have the nose I wish I had been born with, beautifully proportional and natural to my face. Additionally, his team of clinical and administrative staff are highly professional, knowledgeable and accessible. They provide an atmosphere of compassion and warmth to ensure the best overall comfort and care.

Dr. Toriumi ruined my face. I went to him to revise a botched primary rhinoplasty, and he did a complex revision involving (way too much) rib grafting. My nose was hideously swollen to the point of disfigurement for over nine months, and I was left with a nose that was stable and functional, but so ugly (no radix, super wide, flared nostrils, etc.) that I couldn’t look in the mirror. When I brought up my concerns with him, he either advised more patience or accused me of having body dismorphic disorder since I was so miserable and preoccupied with my ruined face. He could not have been more callous or uncaring. I looked like a troll for almost two years, and I just went out to California to get my nose revised again. I’m one week post-​op, and although my nose is still markedly swollen, the contour is absolutely beautiful – I could not be more thrilled with the results. I’m just so relieved that I can finally move forward in my life after what Toriumi did to me, and that I found someone with the competence and compassion to undo the damage.
