Comset Computers

My sister called yesterday to make sure they would have no problem with the service we needed and to get a cost estimate. I was supposed to take the computer in today. Since I needed to take the tower in and I was walking the one block there carrying a heavy, bulky desktop I decided to call to verify that it was a good time and someone would be there. I called, no answer. Then called back and left a message. No reply. I few hours later I called and a man answered saying to drop it off anytime before 7 pm and someone will be there.
I walk over with this heavy computer and the store is CLOSED. Shut down, no longer operating. There is a sign on the door saying this location is closing April 30^th (today is only April 29^th) and to go to the Milwaukee Ave store and that the phone number will remain the same. If you know you are moving locations, a customer calls to verify that you will be there to drop something off it should be common sense and basic customer service to make sure that person is informed of your location change. Both myself and my sister spoke to employees and no one mentioned the store we were calling was moving locations. Absolutely unacceptable and utterly unprofessional.

Took a Macbook Air to have the screen replaced. Thought I’ll save some money and help a small business… big mistake!!! It took months to have it done just to pick it up with half of screen still not working. Went back to have it done again and they replaced it with the with screen. The original one had a camera and the replacement one did not. Hate, hate, hate this store. The only positive part was that the gentleman working there was nice.

I bought a computer here for my job, I have used it for 8 months now and have had absolutely no issues. When I bought it, Jesus was very informative and friendly. Great experience overall and great prices.

Needed some help with my trusted machine and came to Unilocal for guidance. Comset had plenty of good reviews and so did Jesus in particular. Rest assured you’re in good hands with Jesus. He’s honest, knowledgeable, efficient (quick!) and an all around pleasure to do business with.
My problem was taken care of quickly and I was back in business much faster than I was expecting. The level of service Jesus delivers is excellent and I would not hesitate to recommend him and Comset!

I took my HP laptop to Staples because it was having virus issues. They had it for a few days and thought it was fixed… it wasn’t. We then took it here and not only did they remove all viruses, they showed us a few ways to clean our computer at home… guess what. No issues now. Great work!

I read the positive reviews of Comset Computers and am happy to report they are 100% true. I started off at Best Buy and was quoted $ 70 for diagnostic plus $ 50 for install plus parts. My laptop was self reporting a problem with the cooling system. Worst of all, it would have been 3 – 4 weeks to get the computer back.
Jesus correctly diagnosed that a simple cleaning of the whole laptop would probably solve the problem. In about two hours and a $ 40 charge I was up and running. I highly recommend Comset Computers. Next time I have a problem with my laptop I will definitely be back.

Finding reliable computer repair — like seeking a mechanic you can trust– is often a game of Russian roulette with angst and mistrust filling the chambers. When the service required is a specialized task beyond the ken of most laymen, you can be at the mercy of the (purported) expert; unable to fully assess their honesty, competence or dependability until it’s too late.
Thus when you discover a shop you can trust, it’s gold — and I found a nugget at Comset.
The keyboard on my laptop had stopped working and (based on the Unilocal rating) I headed to Comset to have it checked out. Jesus took a look, confirmed the problem told me of specific issues with my brand, and made a call to track down the part. Because of the ultra-​thin model it would be a pricey replacement (requiring a whole new top piece rather than only new keys/​connector), and since the computer was just over a year old he suggested (completely against his own interest) that I try to have it fixed by the manufacturer, as they will sometime show leeway on high-​end products.
That didn’t pan out (disappointing, Samsung), so I returned and Jesus ordered the part (which would take 7 – 10 days to arrive). I explained that my business was largely run off the unit and I couldn’t really leave it for a week, so he lent me a USB keyboard and had me hang on to the computer until the piece came in — when it did arrive he promptly called and was able effect the repair during the afternoon so that I was never even without the laptop overnight!
My experience at other places has often been marked by shady attitudes, jargon-​heavy diagnoses aimed to impress and timetables/​prices/​performance that fall through — Jesus was very low-​key, very straightforward, and delivered a great result.
One never hopes that they will require frequent patronage of a computer repair service, but when needed I’ll be back here for sure.

I love these guys, Thomas always comes through. We have a business with 2 computers used by 12 people. No problem, he comes buy when they are acting up and takes care of business. Good people.

Day 1 — I return home from work to find my computer making a loud clicking noise. Hard drive appeared to be dead. I check Amazon from my phone and realize that new computers are expensive. I go to sleep sad.
Day 2 — I realize I can probably just get the hard drive replaced and save some money. I checked Unilocal for computer technicians and saw that Comset was nearby and was highly recommended. I stopped by late in the day, and Jesus said that he could probably get things fixed pretty quickly. I left hopeful.
Day 4 — Jesus calls and tells me that my computer has a brand new hard drive, and that he was able to recover most of my data. Fixed in under two days (better than I expected!), and only $ 230 for everything (cheaper than a new laptop!).
Lessons learned — back up your data! And if you ever have some kind of computer problems, go to Comset. They saved the day.

Other IT places have taken a week or even a month to fix. Reasonable price and this guy went above and beyond!

Someone sent me an email and I mistakenly opened it. Then my laptop is not working. I don’t know how or why. In a desperate attempt to fix my laptop I brought my laptop to Best Buy. They quoted $ 250.00++ just to look at it.
Slow your roll nerd who couldn’t hack it at Apple. Not happening.
So I checked out Comset on the recommendation of a coworker. Staff was very helpful and informative on the phone. Brought my laptop in and they looked at it for a few minutes. Asked me questions and I kind of answered them. 2 days & $ 75.00 later my laptop is a good as new. I am assuming.

Broken computers area bummer and they all involve long stories. I was replacing my laptop’s hard drive. and I stripped one of the 4 {extremely tiny} screws that holds the HDD in the bracket. It vexed me for 5 hours. They took out the screw in 9 seconds flat.
I offered to pay, but he (didn’t get his name ’cause I was there for 3 minutes total) wouldn’t let me.
The rest of the process was a lot easier knowing Comset was there if I had any problems.

I was having issues with my computer so finally I decided to come here to get it fixed. I am glad that I did. Jeff was great! He was friendly, helpful, and answered all the questions I had! (which was a lot) :)
I would definitely recommend this place and the rates are reasonable, they won’t rip you off.

Long story short… Sony wanted close to $ 1500 to repair my computer… hell no! Brought it here, less than a week later I was up and running for about $ 350! And it was fixed with parts that were actually upgrades and resulted in a faster pc!
No complaints… I would come back again!

Do not come here if you expect any sort of efficiency or communication. Long story short — I brought my computer in for an EXTREMELY MINOR problem (AC adapter shot) and they said they’d order me a new one.
Three weeks later after zero phone correspondance on their part to let me know of any delays in their 3 – 5 day estimate, I just gave up, picked up my computer, drove to BEST BUY where I didn’t even need the Geek Squad to help me — the random guy on the sales floor picked out exactly what I needed and rang me up in 3 – 5 MINUTES.
What made me more angry was that the people at Comset were not polite or apologetic about the delays or the inevitable loss of my business. Not to say that I have a lot of computer problems, but with 4 computers in our house, there would certainly be the potential for future business from me and my network of potential referrals. While I’m all for supporting small business and going local, Comset Computers is THE WORST and I’ll be sure to pick someone (anyone) else next time I have an issue.

I wish I could give them five stars — but things seem to be in constant disarray and they are unbelievably disorganized. I was told on a Sat. that my laptop needed a simple Windows reinstall to cure what ailed it, and it would be ready for pick up on Tuesday. Amazing!
When I arrived Tuesday, there was a slighly frantic search for my laptop before it was finally located and I was told nothing had been done to it, the reintall would take 8 hours and I would need to come back tomorrow… wait no, on second thought I should just wait for a phone call in case it’s still not ready tomorrow. Okay, no problem. But I mean, really? Just do me a solid and have it ready tomorrow dude since it was supposed to be ready today.
It’s Saturday — a week later — and still no call so I decide to give them a buzz. And once again there’s an all out hunt for my laptop… «what’s your name again? Please hold.» «What kind of computer was it? Please hold.» «I’m sorry, one more time, what’s your name? Okay, hold on.» My laptop is a Dell from 2007 — you can’t find it? On the contrary I would think you couldn’t miss it. It’s enormous. But I digress, finally they found it and I was told it was ready for pick up but I would need to purchase a $ 40 virus protection since the reinstall wiped out my Norton.
Admittedly by the time they tried to sell me over the phone I was a total bear. Computers aren’t cheap so taking more care in where they are at any given time would be greatly appreciated. Even if my laptop is a complete piece.
Okay, okay so my computer is indeed running quickly again and in sensing my displeasure they ended up installing a free virus program (but not before insisting a few more times that I get the $ 40 program) so things ended well despite the few hiccups along the way.
Overall it wasn’t terrible, but I would have liked a more seamless experience based on prior reviews. If they could get their place in order I would surely recommend them and maybe even return, but hopefully I won’t have to.

This used to be my go-​to for computer repair when I lived in the hood so when I was in need of a cheapie PC to take on the road, I gave them a call and I found the bargain of the century!!! A $ 100 refurbished Toshiba. Yeah, it was in perfect running order and just what I needed!
The guys are super sweet and helpful and have a variety of refurbished office equipment available as well. They also are pretty fantastic repair guys and have been in business for at least 10 years.
If your PC needs a tune up, or you need some other accessories, drive by and check them out. It’s worth the trip! They deserve your business!

First, the bad news. If you are searching for «computer repair» on Unilocal,there is probably something horribly wrong with your computer. Sorry about that!
Now, the good news. If you have found the review page for Comset Computers, you are well on your way to getting your computer fixed. Hooray!
My computer was fried by a summer storm that included a lot of lightning. Like an idiot, I did not have a surge protector. Have you ever actually ever HEARD of anyone’s computer getting friend by lightning? No? Well now you have.
Anyway, I was thinking that the power supply was fried, which is a quick and easy fix for a repair shop. Unfortunately, in my case it was actually the motherboard that was fried. This is not a cheap fix ($ 200+ to repair this on a desktop). So in the end, I opted to not get the computer fixed. I will either save up a couple hundred bucks and get it fixed in a couple months, or save up a couple hundred on top of that and just buy a cheap brand new computer.
So how can I give 5-​stars to a place that didn’t actually fix my computer? Easy.
Communication: They responded to all my e-​mails within an hour or so. This should be commonplace for a business, ESPECIALLY a computer place. But you’d be surprised at some of the shady places that exist in Chicago.
Location: When you first walk into the place you may see that it is cluttered, but what computer repair place ISN’T cluttered? Anyway, the store is a great location that is right off the Paulina brown line stop. Yay for public transit!
No-​Pressure: Although I’m sure they wanted my business, I was not pressured into doing anything to my computer that I didn’t want to do. They also didn’t hold my computer hostage after I said I didn’t want to have it fixed.
Knowledge: I got the impression that the guys that worked there really knew what they were talking about. But I did NOT get talked down to or made to feel like I was an illiterate computer user. They are not your typical cocky IT guys.
All in all, I’d say that Comset Computers is a trustworthy place to get your computer looked at and worked on. Good luck!

I can’t say enough about Comset and Mark. I came in to use up my youswoop before I left. I had no problems with my computer, I was just in need of a quick once over. You know a tune-​up peek under the hood type thing. I dropped it off Friday afternoon and it was ready by Tuesday-​there seemed like there was a lot of backlog, especially for laptops. I called in Tuesday to see if my computer was ready and aside from adding some burning software he didn’t have to do too much to it.
I walked in that afternoon and he brought out my computer without even asking me and started my computer up. Aside from the service packs for Vista which I didn’t download but thought my computer could handle the upgrade to 7. He went into a lot of detail about my computer and offered me a few quick tips as well as what he did to help speed up my computer a little more. He added a couple of malware and spyware killers to supplement my anti-​virus-​which were easy to use and he organized my start menu items into just a few folders.
The kicker here is that the price of my youswoop cost about the same amount the optimization would have cost so he actually asked me if I wanted to save the coupon for something else down the road. I was impressed by that, it’s rare for businesses to advise against using their coupons for a later time when it might be needed. A definite plus in my book.
