Computechs+

I just went in to have my MacBook Pro screen glass repaired, and it was a smooth, timely transaction. They managed to have the part on hand, were patient when I told them I couldn’t buy the screen right then, and when I came in to have it repaired, Mark was right on the money. Shook my hand, explained what was what, showed me the receipt he couldn’t print out at the moment, but offered to email it to me, fixed the screen while I waited outside, came out, explained what happened, and made me feel much better. I paid him, shook his hand, and now I’m at home (By the way, he emailed my receipt just like he said he would) about to take a nap knowing I don’t have to baby my screen anymore, and that I didn’t pay Apple the requisite $ 1,000,000 they would want to fix the glass themselves.
Possible criticism: I love a good small business, but in an ideal world, it would be nice to have a little store front, and maybe a waiting area for clients. It’s kind of moot because in the location where he is, parking is 10,000% impossible, and towing vultures prowl freely. There’s a pickup/​dropoff service, but it didn’t extend to Jefferson Park (where I am), so I had to find something to do with myself for an hour. I ate at D’Agostino’s, but it was a pain in the neck to get parking in that neighborhood. That’s about all I can think of that could add to my experience.
When you buy something, you can purchase from a guy with a shop doing business for himself, or a storefront with a sign and lots of bells and whistles. Each situation has equal opportunity to rip you off, but you *feel* better going into the one that *looks* more established. All I can say is that you should give them a try. Maybe one day they’ll have those bells and whistles. Right now, for me, I don’t need them, because I’m a happy customer.

free pick up is a joke. i have called twodays ago. but that guy still not come. such service attitude is very terrible.

I feel compelled to write this review since I myself chose Computechs+ after reading their generally good reviews. Most of these reviews are several years old, and ten reviews for a computer company is really not that impressive, so I hope my review will keep others from making similarly bad choices.
My MacbookPro was never opened or serviced properly, was returned to me uncleaned, and the initial problem was not fixed. I was sold unneeded materials that had nothing to do with the initial problem. Upon asking if my laptop could be looked at by another technician I was told there was no-​one else, so there is one guy looking at Macs and he does not seem to know what he is doing. I can claim this unbiasedly because I later took my computer to another company who fixed the problem, repairing my graphics card in my motherboard, in 3 days.
My entire horrid experience with Computechs (from pick up, drop off, attempted re-​servicing due to the problem not being fixed the first time, e-​mails demanding a refund, and actually getting the promised refund) took over 3 months. The real kicker is, when I took my laptop to a new company, they told me they had other customers who had also come from Computechs with un-​fixed computers and stories of bad customer service.
Very, very unprofessional. No receipts ever given of money paid or services performed, phone calls from a hidden number, and no office or store front so no idea where my computer is going except in the backpack of a guy in a baseball cap. I cannot speak to PC repair, but I would strongly recommend against any Mac owners using these services.

This is my 3^rd using this company (for different laptop) and, once again, I have nothing but praises. They just rock!!!

It’s never fun when your laptop stops working and you can’t for the life of you figure out why. I procrastinated bringing it in for service for about a month mainly because of the horror stories I heard from bringing it to places like the Geek Squad. After finally giving in, I found that Computechs+ were right in my neighborhood and I gave them a call. I’m glad I did. They’re very friendly and professional, they keep you updated on what kind of diagnostic tests they’re doing, they promptly answered emails when I had a question, and most importantly they’re up front and fair with the prices that they charge. I would definitely call Computechs+ again next time I need some help with a computer and would recommend them to everyone.
And you can’t beat the free pickup and drop off service.

My computers are my LIFE, and I am always very hesitant about getting repairs made. I completely lost a hard drive on my Dell laptop a few years back to some IT guy that my dad new… and I will NOT take my computer to Geek Squad. So when my desktop started making really loud noises a few weeks ago, of course I assumed that another one of my computers was on its way to the graveyard. Luckily, I came across CompuTechs+ on Unilocal and I now have a healthy CPU once again. When I initially called them to see if they made house calls they offered to do so even though I live in Oak Park now. After a brief phone call explaining what I thought was wrong with it, I actually decided to drop it off myself because I thought I could just wait for it. I ended leaving and coming back a few hours later, but that was OK. The guy I dealt with was very nice and professional, and he called me about an hour after I dropped it off to confirm that it was in fact my power supply that needed to be replaced. He told me he was going to pick up the part, and asked how much I wanted to pay for it. I thought this was great and trusted that the part he recommended would suit my needs. Overall the price for their service and the part was around $ 200, but I feel it was well worth it not to have bigger problems arise in the future due to the defaulty part. I will keep CompuTechs+ in mind for any future issues I have with my computers. I also really like the chat feature on their website; they were able to get all my info first and made things go much quicker. I would suggest calling first before you chat though.

I had a Dell 1705, that worked pretty well. I had it for about 2 and a half years and had a few issues with the actual casing of the computer. I decided to send my computer to CompuTechs mainly so that they could fix the piece on the back of the computer that my charger hooks into. It had snapped off somehow when I went to plug it in. It worked with my battery fine, so I used the juice I had left in it to back some of my most important files up.
They picked it up from me at my school and I signed a waiver form. They seemed nice enough and I was just glad that it was getting taken care of for me. I agreed to pay $ 150 for their service (plus parts) and if they couldn’t fix it I would have to pay them a 50 diagnostic fee. The Unilocal reviews seemed good enough so that I wouldn’t have to worry about it.
Unfortunately after about month and several different attempts to replace the piece, they told me that they were unable to get power to my computer. When I got it back finally, I borrowed a friends battery from their 1705 so I could back up the rest of my files (music, home videos, pictures, etc…) and my computer wouldn’t even turn on. The green power light lit up, but that’s it. Now I have a really big paper weight with a green light.
The basic facts… I gave them a computer that wouldn’t charge or receive power from a charger, but it did work with a battery. When I got it back it was completely dead and wouldn’t even work with a battery.
I had to get a whole new computer because they messed something up on the inside of my computer when trying to repair a simple power problem.
Now, I gave them two stars for the fact that they are some of the nicest and most persistent guys that you’ll meet. I think they said that almost every computer technician was allowed a go at connecting my computer before finally giving up. Maybe that’s what further broke it. They just fixed it to death.

Computechs+ destroyed my computer! What an ordeal. I’m rather well versed in technology and have even been paid to build and repair PC’s but I figured I absolutely did not want to risk anything with my MacBook Pro so I would send it out for repair to someone trust worthy online.
The computer screen on my Macbook pro was broken at Animé Central 2007. It got sat on and completely warped. As the macbook screen got closed the case completely warped with it but the computer worked fine literally. The CD rom drive was a pain in the ass to open because it was bent but other than that all you had to do was hook up an external monitor and the computer ran wonderfully. That’s why it took me so long to bother with the repair. When I took it to the Mac Store they quoted me on the case and the screen (since everything else was fine) for $ 1200 when it first broke (which was right after I bought it).
Anyways, because of Unilocal I got CompTechs+ to pick up the computer. They came by and got me to sign a waiver. I was in a big hurry so I asked the guy who was dropping it off what the waiver was about. He told me I was agreeing to having them do a 100% fix on my computer. They were going to fix everything for one price, okay, sure! I booted down the computer in the lobby (it was still on) and handed it to the guy at the door after signing the waiver and rushed out the door.
I get a call on my answering machine quite a while later telling me that they replaced the screen but the LOGIC BOARD needed to be replaced. I talked to the guy on the phone and his «logic» left me in absolute disbelief. He claimed that I had no proof that the computer was working when I gave it to them, and they didn’t break it! They claimed to replace the screen before powering on the computer!!!
WHAT!?! You’re going to REPLACE the screen before even POWERING the computer on? He then explained to me that since I only asked to replace the screen that’s all they were doing (even thou they had me sign a waiver and told me all parts of my computer would be repaired). The guy on the phone told me none of his techs have ever made a mistake in 15 years. More like, they’ve never admitted to it and everyone who has called computechs+ in Chicago in 15 years has figured out that they were being scammed and charged for extra parts and techs mistakes.
It took nearly three weeks to get the laptop back when they returned it in broken condition. They told me they couldn’t fix it and threatened me with «illegal torrents and illegal OSX» on my hard drive. Literally THREATENING me, they told me «they didn’t feel it was their fault». The OSX was the OSX that came with the computer, so the notion is laughable. What does scanning my hard drive have to do with fixing the logic board? Since ALL they were doing was fixing the screen?
I asked them if they had a change to bend back the case, when I was on the phone with the guy at Computechs+ Computer un-​repair in Chicago I was told they could give it a try and when I got the computer back the case was bent back to regular position. When we were on the phone he told me they didn’t take the computer apart because it’s too much work, all they do to install the screen is hook it up, then BAM it was broken.
So to me really it’s simple what happened. They bent the case back without removing it, broke the logic board… and didn’t feel responsible since I asked them to do the repairs. I would give them zero stars if I could.
They returned my computer BROKEN and unuseable, with a different screen than I gave them, threats and the case warped back to normal.
Showing me they did a lot more than just «mess with the screen» Computechs+ should be locked up in jail.

Without a car, the pick up and drop off service was worth 5 stars alone. I probably would have appreciated a little more in the way of email response, but all of the staff I dealt with were helpful and courteous so I can forgive that.
Perhaps the most impressive aspect to me was that they were very upfront with product replacement cost and didn’t try and upcharge. In my case, I wanted it there fast and have Amazon Prime so they were completely fine with my purchasing the product and shipping it overnight to them directly.
Getting repairs done is always a pain, but these guys made it pretty effortless. I would recommend them to anyone.

You guys saved me from a laptop anxiety attack! When my precious little Sony Vaio went crazy and locked up due to a trojan/​malware/​mystery infection, these guys couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful. They even made the trek to come pick it up in super crappy, blizzard-​like conditions – bonus! It was back within 48 hours and better than ever. Also, their prices are super reasonable. Love it!
I’ll never let the shady-​ass «Geek Squad» get anywhere near my computer again. Thanks CompuTechs, you are fabulous!

The Mac is back.
CompuTechs+ replaced my faulty power jack and performed a 26-​point system optimization on my Powerbook (much like what Jiffy Lube does with their oil changes, hehe). Also, if you go with the ‘flat-​rate’ troubleshooting option, you’ll save a ton of money.
After the 10% off if paid in cash discount they’re touting on their Unilocal page, my total came to $ 175. The same repair at the Apple store would have run me at least $ 400.
Take advantage of their pick up/​drop off service and request a loaner laptop if you’ll be needing one. It’s FREE for goodness sake.

It figures that I would screw up my computer again somehow! So I contacted CompuTechs+ again and sure enough they honored the 90 day warrenty (which they probably didn’t have to since it wasn’t the same problem that had initially plagued my laptop).
It was picked up again by a different tech and they didn’t make me feel like an idiot for putting a virus or whatever else was wrong with the laptop. It came back good as new within two days and they even gave me a loaner Mac Book so I could at least get my email and web surfing in while mine was in the shop.
I’m not a Mac guy but it was nice to get a loaner and experience a different system to work with.
A++ and can’t recommend this company enough. Thanks for the help (s) and saving my a** twice now.

These guy who helped me out was a pro — and not only a pro, but easy and actually cool to talk to. I’m not completely computer literate all the time (enough to connect to a network and write a Unilocal review) but he didn’t make me feel like a moron for asking what I might think would be ‘stupid’ questions.
Anyway, now I have my itunes music back, and can stop freaking out about having to go and get all new music. I would use these guys any day for any future problems — especially after those horror stories you hear about the excessive charges and misdiagnosis from the Geek Squad. Computechs was an excellent find.

I’m really glad everyone is giving this company five stars because the speed, professionalism, price and courtesy of the tecs was awesome. Your computer going down is scary enough with the thought of waiting for some random person to come to your house but thats not how they work. The service rep called me back right away and from my message he already knew what was wrong. He then logged on remotely. Also super cool to see. Suddenly they were controlling my computer and I just started seeing screens I’ve never seen before start flying up and boom he was done. Highly recommend using and I will indeed use again as well.
To bad they fixed my computer so well I won’t have to… knock on wood
