If you are having a hard time finding anything, you should try this location. They seem to have everything you could ever possibly need. A little over priced but still a hidden gem. Sometimes you luck up some amazingly nice people, but then you also have some rude people who can care less about helping you find what you need. We know you are a professional who is an expert in your area, however let someone finish their sentence and you will find your answers before you cut them off and treat them rudely. I have gone here a couple of times, looking to get a car key copied, getting lock pins changed and for lighting… Most times though I am very happy with the experience and level of customer service.

Impressive selection of things you’d be hard-​pressed to find anywhere else. Knowledgable and helpful staff. They’ve saved my bacon many a time!

I have been a Clark Devon hardware customer since I moved to the North side in 1989. I have come to know that «Clark /​Devon will have it!» you may pay a little more, but if you have a question you know you will get help from a friendly person who will give you the right answer the first time. That’s worth a little extra in my book. Keep it up CDH!

This hardware store has just about everything you need .I go to here all the time. they everything from keys and locks to pluming to painting. you just about name they got it I just love this hardware store. anytime I need to fix something I go there to get it. also they will help you out with what you need just ask them. there good people.

Reminded again how great this place is. Reminding myself that it’s worth the trip.

Every time I go into clark & Devon someone is quick to offer assistance. Never left without a solution to a diy project. Love the staff and the business they run. A anchor business in Rogers park to be proud of! Thanks for your commitment to tour customers and community

What can I say?
They are local, friendly, knowledgeable and sell products without name brands on them that not only can save you money but might even be better than the name brand. Even the people at the check out counter are very friendly and courteous. They even help you with items such as snow blowers that have manufacturing defects

I have been coming here for years and always satisfied with every visit. This recent experience proved me less so. I went in for a glass replacement for a window. I was told to go to the front and the window would follow in about 15 minutes. So I stood up front for about 30 minutes and finally decided to to go back to the service desk and ask about the delay. They told me that it was up front and I just needed to ask for it. So I go back up front and they direct me to an area but the cashier said that my order was not ready. So I stood around for another 15. The cashier asks my name again and my details and calls back and determines that it is on it’s way with about 5 minutes for delivery. At this point another cashier notices that I have been waiting for quite some time and inquires about my order. I repeat the information and he asks the same person who was helping me. Finally after a couple of calls the order shows up with a total wait time of an hour. I am a very patient person and would have gladly done so but I was constantly told that my order was here or there. Even the cashier told me that this particular department was always a wait. Lesson: When it comes to glass just come back later. Don’t waste your time as it will only disappoint you.

I had a great experience here — it is a large place with a great array of products, and helpful employees. Easy to get to, too, with a free parking lot, and near public transportation.

Very helpful on the phone and just as nice in person. Rental center set me up with a sweet carpet cleaner and all’s well with the world, pretty much.

This store has completely cured me of the Big Box Stores! It literally has everything one needs, immediate attention and reasonable prices.
The service is great! The man in the plumbing area fixed me up with a custom made item that fit my needs exactly and made suggestions for materials I had never considered. The prices are reasonable, maybe a slightly up from Big Box, but service is not free.

I’ve shopped here for years but after today I won’t be back.
They sold me a wrench that was missing piece (a wingnut to keep it in place), which I didn’t discover until I got home.
I called them back as soon as I discovered it, and asked if they’d be able to exchange it for me when I got there as it was almost time for them to close. I explained I was 5 minutes away.
The clerk on the phone was unhelpful and told me he couldn’t guarantee there would be someone there to help me in 5 minutes after closing, after they sold me a broken/​faulty piece of merchandise.
I would have been fine if he had told me no or yes, but telling me «it’s your risk» after they had sold me a faulty wrench is unacceptable.
If I wanted rude/​inconsiderate employees I can go to Home Depot. No need to frequent a local shop with a smaller selection for this kind of service.

Each time I visit Clark-​Devon, every employee I come across is helpful and passionate about finding solutions to whatever project/​gizmo I bring in the door. They don’t just give you an aisle number to leave you wandering, they stop what they are doing and involve themselves with your project. Although it may seem like a small store, there are many specialty items that you will not find at big-​box stores. Their locksmith and plumbing departments are extremely impressive.

I am in a serious committed relationship with Home Depot in Elk Grove but this hardware store is just around the corner. They’ve got a team of amazing sales people who are knowledgeable in their different departments and super friendly.
Prices are good.
The only reason I can’t give them 5 stars is they lost the piece of wood that I had them cut a week ago but brought in to have one additional cut made. They re-​cut a new piece but after installing it, found it to be slightly off.
Be careful where you park. Parking «lot» immediately in front on Clark is actually city parking so you have to pay. Their private lot is on the side of their building.

I am convinced that this place has everything. Not only that, the staff is incredibly knowledaable and just plain nice.

This is probably the best hardware store in the Chicago area bar none definitely a hidden gem in the city. They have everything that other hardware stores have and more. We have an 100 year old house and every time something breaks and it often does they seems to have the most obscure parts that stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s don’t have like skeleton keys!
I’d like to add that the workers there are very friendly and helpful and most have been there for years. They bend over backwards to try to help with your problem. Make sure you park in their lot, if you park on the side of the store and don’t pay the meter you may get ticketed. The only quip I have is that I wish they had longer store hours … things always seem to break in the evening when they are not open.

Most recently, I called looking for an irregular lightbulb. The guy spent a while on the phone with me, helping me compare specs with what they had versus what I needed. Unfortunately, they don’t carry what I need, but I’m still impressed with how patient the guy was with all of my questions, especially since they were by phone and for an inexpensive product.

I live in a building that was built around 1908. While this place was certainly built to last, sometimes it needs a little help.
I have never been one to just replace something with something new and shiny. I like to try to keep the character of my home. For instance, the back door of my flat had a brass door knob. When it finally died, I looked at all the chain places — and came up empty. One trip to the Clark-​Devon hardware store: I had what I needed in less than 5 minutes.
One of my first repair projects was to replace the crystal door knobs that had somehow gone astray on the bathroom door and one my bedroom clothes cupboard. Again, thinking I might find what I needed at one of the «big guys», I left feeling discouraged. I don’t know why this wasn’t my first stop — again, they had everything I needed. I could have ordered online through an e-​commerce site, but by going here, I can ask questions that all of the sales staff are equipped to answer.
On the flip side of things, my 1940’s typewriter recently «popped a spring». After a cursory online search, I found out what types of spring I needed. Not only did they carry a full line of the springs, but they also had a set of tiny screw drivers that I was able to purchase.
While they don’t have the biggest parking lot in the world, they do offer ample parking. The knowledgeable sales staff keep me coming back with questions — and they have always been kind enough to spend a rather disproportionate amount of time on the phone with me answering questions.
The store is exceptionally tidy, and carries just about everything the vintage home dweller could wish for.
I have purchased everything from my snow shovel, to a tiny little pair of pliers here.
My home isn’t getting any younger, but thanks to Clark-​Devon Hardware, I can keep it up and running… and fully functioning.

Let me tell you something. If you have old or outdated plumbing fixture in your house or apartment, clark –devon is the only store with another place in the city to have those hard to get items. Clark-​devon will have an item that the big box stores like home depot, menards, and lowes will not have in their inventory. So you can say Clark-​devon is a specialty store.
They also provide locksmith service as well. Furthermore, they also have free seminar classes that come every 3 months. These classes give presentations ranging from how to install a new toilet, installing a new electric outlet on walls and removing/​installing new door knobs, latches. They bring different manufacturers showcasing their products.
