Ordered during business hours from eat24. Half hour later was contacted that my order couldnt be fulfilled, the restaurant decided not to open. Call first before planning to eat here

For the past couple of months I’ve been trying different Indian restaurants on Devon hunting for the best chicken briyani, and I think I found it. Chopal was the first place I’ve ordered from and since then nothing has compared. It’s also been the biggest portion so far, it will definitely last you at least 2 meals or you can easily split it with a friend. The mango lassi was also really good. Will definitely be ordering from here again asap!

The greatest mango lassi I have had on Devon, and they serve it in chilled clay cup. Never see people inside, but its not the best location. Highly recommend trying it.

I visited the restaurant couple of weeks back for lunch. The setup of the place is unique and spacious. I like the way they have done the interior, more like traditional Rajasthan look. We ordered some platter, biryani, curry, Dal etc. the way they go it was nice. It was in clay bowls. However the food was not as yummy as we expected it to be. Biryani was not well done and we had to send it back to get it well prepared. The lady who was serving us was polite and easy to talk to. The 3 star I gave is all for presentation and service.

Despite there’s no one ever in the restaurant, I always come back here for their buttered chicken and chili chicken. The chef is accommodating with us with adding the extra spice, not many places is willing to do this for us. There are instances when they forgot to give us our complimentary soup, etc, but from the dozens of times we been here, it is satisfying.

I went here with a couple of my friends and it wasn’t a good experience. I feel bad for them but I don’t at the same time. Service was not at all responsive as it should and I feel like their business is taking a beating from their competitors as well. Hard to say, I wouldn’t recommend this place.

empty place; all in one solitary waiter, dirty glasses, mediocre food. You can do better with bustling restaurants like usmania, serena in the neighborhood. I wish I had

I took out Baluchi chicken, looking for an uncommon dish. But it looked like your ordinary chicken tikka, not bad tasting, but not worth the extra $. And it didn’t really match up with the menu description. I wonder if they simply substituted chicken tikka or boti… I also took out sarson ka saag, again because it is not easy to find. This is like a thick dark green purée of mildly bitter greens. It was tasty, and in ample amount…

K, just had it last night and the food was awful!!! The chicken makhni was NOT chicken makhni, the chilli chicken tasted ok at first but got hard chew after a little bit and EVEN the naans were bad! Like I said in my previous review — my friends and I have been going to this place for a very long time because it’s quite(lack of customers) and before this time we only had bad food twice(not bad for a 7 – 8 year run). I really didn’t want to give them a bad review because of the many positive experiences in the past but the food was horrid and it called for some Unilocaling. Not sure when we’ll go bak or if we will even risk it again..

The food is Ok, they give you complimentary soup, kheer and green tea which is great but it doesn’t make up for the awful service. Took 20 minutes for someone to even come take our order and it wasn’t like they were packed, It was just us and another table with 3 people on it. Took 40 minutes to get the food then had to wait 20 minutes to get our check. If you wanna eat here plan on spending at least 2 hours waiting for food.

I went to Chopal with my family, largely in part to a dealfinder coupon I purchased a few months ago. We arrived on a Sunday night only to find ourselves to be the only customers there. Strange, but then not so much, when Devon Ave. offers an abundance of restaurants for those who have a craving for Indian/Pakistani food. When we were seated, at the very large, awkward table with even more awkward chairs(I think they were trying to go for traditional Indian décor), I didn’t even take my coat off because it was so cold in the restaurant! Anyway, our server brought us all glasses of ice water and a pitcher which he did regularly refill throughout our meal. We chose to order the Chopal Special Family Platter Chicken kabab, seekh kabab, bihari kabab, chappli kabab, boti kabab, boti chicken, chili chicken and chicken tikka, which should have served four to five people. We also chose to order 8 naans for the four of us after we saw that they weren’t as large as the naan you find elsewhere on Devon. The naan was not soft and tender as it should be. It was crumbling and brittle which made it really hard to eat. The kabab portions were really stingy. When you’re on Devon, you’re expecting a bang for your buck and for $ 45, the platter should have fed us all comfortably with some leftover. However, there was not enough for the four of us and I actually walked away from the meal still feeling hungry. Of the kababs in the platter, I would say that my favorite was the bihari kabab. The boti chicken was so dry that I had to choke it down. The seekh kabab was over seasoned and dry as well. The chili chicken was so spicy that I had to eat a lot of my naan plain to squelch the fire in my mouth. I don’t even remember the chappli kabab and now that I think about it, it’s because it was forgettable like everything else on that platter. At the end of our meal, our sever did bring each of us a complimentary bowl of kheer, which is a rice pudding type dessert. It was good. So, would I ever go back to Chopal? NOPE. With so many other places to chose on Devon that actually know how to make a great kabab at a much reasonable price, I don’t see why I would go back.

I really dislike writing bad reviews, in fact I will avoid them on the proverbial principle, «If you cannot say something nice…» So, I apologize in advance, Chopal… I wish I could say I loved Chopal. I wish I could say I would go back a million times. Truth of the matter is, my feet will never step in there again. We begin with a craving for Indian food… Service was strange. My boyfriend & I were given a table marked as, «reserved,» although no reservation was made. We made a joke of this, & enjoyed our«reserved» sign nonetheless. No one checked on us or gave us water for some time after we were given menus. We were ignored by the front-counter waitress. We were also ignored by the other woman who was working the register; however she was dining at another table with a group of people while working. Weird. It was hot in the restaurant, so I eventually got up & took two, small, Styrofoam cups of water from the buffet table. We chose to order from the menu as the buffet had maybe one vegetarian dish from the looks of it, but I had to go get water… feeling parched! After we eventually ordered, we were presented with two glasses, & an accompanying pitcher of water. I ordered a vegetarian dish, which came to the table nearly 10 minutes after my boyfriend’s dish of chicken & beef. What did my little eyes behold? A plate full of meat along-side my lovely vegetables & rice. I apologized, told them I was a vegetarian, & asked if I could just have veggies & rice sans meat. Whilst waiting for my replacement veggies & rice, a fly decided to land on its back in my boyfriend’s veggies, legs squirming in the air. He flipped the bug onto the table, crushed it, & asked for a new plate of veggies, too. Where there are multiple flies buzzing about, there are going to be maggots! Gross! During this entire time, I was still waiting for a simple order of naan. Naan. Just naan, to go with my spiced chickpea dish. I sat & stared at my plate, & waited for the naan to arrive. My boyfriend actually started to eat his meal after my insistence that he had waited too long for mine to come out. His gentlemanly attitude almost made his meal cold. Finally, after our meal, my boyfriend takes the check to the register, & asks to use one of those Groupon deal things that you print out… only problem was: the deal had expired, but the face value(what he originally paid for…) was still redeemable as stated in the fine print. No luck! Chopal would not accept it. My boyfriend simply paid for our meal, & we high-tailed it out of the door. So strange… the restaurant was not busy, we were one of 3 total tables(plus the group of people in the corner dining with the second Chopal employee…) Sorry, Chopal! I wanted to love you, I really, really did.

Honestly, if you are looking for a Pakistani/Indian food in Devon, avoid this place unless you are hungry and want to save money, this place does have good prices. But if you are coming for the first time in Devon, this is the last place to go to! I was hugely disappointed. Our waitress gave us water right away but we asked for ice and cokes and 5 minutes later(finally) we had cans of coke and a cup of ice at the table. 10 minutes past and when we finally see her we order our lunch, it’s a Sunday afternoon. The food was okay. If you want to try real naan, go somewhere else. It was okay, seemed like it was frozen and generic. Most Indian/Pakistan restaurants prepare their naan fresh and warm! This place didn’t. Our waitress was nice, but very uneducated about the food. She was quiet and seemed unsure the whole time, like it was her first time working at a restaurant. For 5 starving people that got a variety of dishes(prepared okay) it was around 45 dollars, which wasn’t bad. That’s why this review is a 2 star instead of 1. Also, they only have regular tea. Not Paki/Indian style. Very sad. If you are looking for a place to eat you can go anywhere from Khan BBQ, Sabri Nihari, Osmani’s, Tiffin, they all beat this place!

This isn’t the place to bring a starving Indian family, especially a family consisting of a strong mother who could care less about social tact. When you walk into this beautiful restaurant, it’s easy to become fascinated by the intricately-crafted furniture and amazing decorations. Sitting on chairs that are like thrones makes you feel like a king. Unfortunately for Chopal, that’s where the royal treatment ends… There were hardly any people dining at the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. I don’t always see that as a «sign,» but with such amazing décor and impressive prices, something didn’t feel quite right about the place. As we were sitting and waiting for someone to acknowledge our presence, the parental units noticed all of the food left on the table next to us. The amount of rice wasted was incredible. You could have fed an entire country with what was left on that plate. A guy walked up to the register to pay a bill, and the waitress closed it out, and he was on his way. Unfortunately, he didn’t look that pleased. This exit left my family and a couple next to us at the restaurant. We ordered after the couple, and they seemed like they had been waiting for quite some time. The same waitress taking care of them finally came to us to get our order. We thought that splitting two combos would be enough, as it generally is on Devon. One of the two people next to us seemed disgruntled. The other one enjoyed hearing himself talk, so he was really appreciative of the restaurant and«all» that it had to offer… basically a nice throne and a glass dining table. As another reviewer noted, if you are Caucasian, you’ll enjoy the«experience.» If you’re Desi, you’ll be disappointed… One song finished. Another song finished. I had good memories re-living my past with the next song. After about 48,789 songs, my mother said: «It’s going to take another hour before we get our food.» I was getting bored looking outside, and I consider myself a pretty patient, go-with-the-flow kind of guy. My stomach was in serious need of quality food, especially kebabs! A couple walked in the door and I felt badly for them because I doubted they had any idea what was in store. My mom was right about the hour-long wait, and we got our two combos. What was hilarious(and rude) was my mom exclaiming: «FINALLY!?!» when the food arrived. The couple next to us even cast surprised expressions. The waitress was really nice and seemed to have a fair amount going on, so I tried to smooth my mom’s comment over. She still didn’t have time to clean the mess left at the empty table next to us or acknowledge the diners who just arrived. Both platters had a ridiculous amount of rice. They get a plus for that. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough chicken, salmon, beef and all of the good stuff. Even the dipping sauce bowls were unusually small. We devoured the essentials pretty quickly and were disappointed that there wasn’t enough of what we wanted. Other restaurants provide a lot more meat and fish. You can’t just load a plate full of rice and sprinkle a little bit of meat and expect the diners to be pleased. This is a problem with the kitchen and management. I feel terribly for the really nice waitress who was probably on the same page as we were on, and she is the one who has to deal with disgruntled diners. The couple finished their meal and one seemed more satisfied than the other. I looked down upon the Boti Kebab that was left, and it’s sad how there was so much fat all over the plate. The beef was so impossible to cut. We all exchanged knives, and it became really hopeless at that point. I could have written a screenplay in the time I wasted trying to make pieces out of the insanely large clump of beef. When the waitress came over, I politely asked how many others were working and if she had to do all the work in the restaurant herself. I really felt badly for her. She said that one of the servers didn’t show up. I wondered why there wasn’t a manager calling someone else in or if there were even other servers employed at Chopal. It took another million Indian songs(funny how it’s a Pakistani restaurant) to get the check. My mom could not believe that my dad tipped 20% for basically nothing, but he was feeling charitable. I was already planning where I wanted to go to pick up more food. As we left the restaurant, I looked around and thought about how the place should just be converted into an antique furniture store. It would make Devon more interesting, anyway…

The food: Complimentary soup: Really strangely gelatinous texture with a weird off-chicken flavor. It tasted like something I almost liked. My boyfriend didn’t even try the mix-ins. Mango Laasi: Big enough for two, hint of salt, really great. Naan: Really great too. Huge, crispy and chewy. Bihari Kebab: Very good as well but too spicy for my boyfriend; he doesn’t like spicy though. There wasn’t really anything about the menu about what to expect for spiciness. Balti Gosht: This was borderline spicy for me. I was more disappointed that it was a soupy and didn’t come with any rice. Also some of the goat wasn’t cooked long enough and was tough while other pieces were perfect. The flavor was very good though. Complimentary rice pudding: Very nice and needed after all the spice. For the price, the food was good, but I won’t do dine in again. Take out only because of… The atmosphere: The tables are huge and impossible to sit comfortably at. There are weird bars on 2⁄4 sides preventing you from sliding your chair in. The chairs have cushions that are basically meaningless, and it was really uncomfortable. Plus I’m short and my legs wouldn’t reach the ground and were instead digging into the chairs hard edges. The tables are all designed to seat large parties which makes it impossible to share food if its just the two of you and you want to actually sit with your legs under the table. And the service: Very nice staff, but super slow. We went up and asked for the check. She came back with complimentary dessert and no check. Then we had to go up again to get it plus the time it took to run the card. It took 20 mins.

The $ 5 lunch special is fucking amazing. Perfectly subtle heat in the chicken biryani and killer tandoor chicken. My mouth had a perfectly balanced coat of heat and spice. Totally coming back. PS. The next day I kinda had the shits but it was worth it. LOL.

I’ll preface my review with this: If you’re white, this will be an «ethnic» experience for you. If you’re desi, you will be very disappointed with the food. The ambiance is interesting… to put it nicely. The chairs are wicked uncomfortable and will have you tilted kinda forward. If you lift/work out and have big quads, you will not be able to slide your legs under the table and will have to sit thighs length away from the table. I felt like I was eating dinner in an Afghan warlord’s tent to be totally honest. My buddy and I decided to get the Family Platter which at $ 40 promised food for 4 – 5 people. We were hungry and figured a few lbs of meat was a good post-workout meal! They start you out with soup, which was a salty congealed mess of god knows what. Then our platter came out and we were pretty shocked at what it held. There is no way so little food(probably around .5lbs of chicken items and .75lbs of beef items) would feed more than 2 people. The rice that came with the platter was cold and crunchy… I’ve never had crunchy rice from a desi place considering it’s probably our biggest food source. The naan my buddy ordered was exceptionally good though. The kebabs and meat were nothing special. The chicken was dry and most of the beef was room temp if that. The tandoori bits were overcooked or had been sitting around. The chicken tikka was decent but it tasted like a combo of ketchup and hot wing sauce. The sekh kabab was also good. This $ 40 platter had 2 decent things on it. Just ridiculous. They give you complimentary dessert as well. This was a sweet cream of wheat type dish. Decent but I wasn’t expecting anything good after our main entrée. The service is the only redeeming thing about Chopal. For a place named Kabab, I absolutely expected more. Next time, I’ll just head down the street to Sabri and have a damn good meal at a much, much cheaper price.
