Chicago Downtown

Stayed for seven days during December. Found stay to be friendly and attentive – including stepping out into a snow covered street to get a cab for us.
The room has full fridge, 2 burner cooktop, dishwasher and microwave. The room is stocked with coffee, tea and popcorn.
The room is a single room as opposed to some residence inn’s that offer a separate room from the bedroom. But, we found this to be plenty of room for us… but we are just 2 adults.
The hotel was both kid friendly and dog friendly. Offers a free breakfast and some weekday evening fare – pasta Monday dessert Wednesday – there is no concierge level.
There is a decent snack shop, but not restaurant in the building… but plenty within walking distance-​the Local at the Hilton at the corner (try the espresso martini) and the Coq D’Ore at the Drake open till 1am – try the local craft beer with a bowl of French onion soup.
Got a great rate of $ 109…

Good hotel in a great area! Rooms were spacious and well maintained. Hotel location is ideal and within walking distance to most sites. Public transportation is one block up the street if needed. The breakfast was just fine… it filled you up to start up your morning. If you don’t want what they serve, there are plenty of dining options nearby. Staff was friendly and very helpful.
Drawback– these are some of the tiniest elevators I have ever come across. And if you are driving to Chicago… don’t! Parking in this area (whether you are staying at the hotel or not) is very expensive.
When I come back to Chicago, I will stay here again. Good bang for the buck (as long as you don’t drive)!

Very sweet and attentive staff, especially Gloria and Eugenia and room control and help on the phone and Jonathan and Fidel and others! Great club lounge food now and very helpful guest services. Newly remodeled suites were immaculate and modern and updated and truly new. Nice view. Very warm and inviting and restufl experience.

Cheap hotel at roughly $ 100/​night. That included a full ‘suite’ containing a king size bed, pull out bed/​couch, kitchen, refrigerator, stove, etc. Really great value, and only about 10 minutes to the subway.
My only complaint is that they don’t have safes in the room. That’s something I’ve never experienced before, in all my travels.

I wish I could provide a higher rating for this hotel, as I had hoped to have a nice stay in Chicago, but this was definitely one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a hotel.
It all began at check in. The two individuals working at the front desk were extremely rude and seemed like they did not want to be bothered and had no time for questions. I brushed this off and ignored it because I refused to let a couple of hateful workers ruin my trip, but things just kept getting worse.
When my family and I first got into the room I thought it looked fine. After being in the room for about an hour I realized the sink had a leak underneath it. The leak was so bad water was running onto the floor. When I called the front desk to inform then of the problem they told me to use paper towels to clean it up, and they did not have another room to move me to because they were at capacity. I was frustrated, but once again I just shrugged this off.
The next day I had to get my vehicle out of valet parking to drive to a relative’s house who lives in the area. When I returned to the hotel I have the valet the key to my car, and I went up to my room. More than 2 hours later I walked out the front door of the hotel to find my car still sitting on the street with the hazard lights blinking and my car doors were unlocked. I told the valet that I wasn’t paying almost $ 60 to have my car sit on the street with the doors unlocked, and I asked why it had not been parked. He told me he «was busy» and provided no more explanation. I then went to the front desk clerk to explain the problem. She told me «yeah, that happens sometimes.» My car was finally parked and taken off the street almost 4 hours later.
That evening when I returned to the hotel, I walked through the room and flipped a bed lamp on. When I did I saw a bug run behind the headboard. As I know bedbugs are an epidemic, I immediately called the front desk and reported what I had seen. They sent a maintenance guy up to inspect. He took all of the sheets and blankets off of the bed and put them on the hotel floor and he flipped the mattress off. I asked if my family and I could be switched to a different room, and the front desk once again told me there were no open rooms. After almost 2 hours the maintenance man said their were no bed bugs in the room. I told him I didn’t know why he was looking at the bed, as I saw the big go behind the headboard (the headboard was glued to the wall, and he never looked there). He basically ignored me and had no response. I then called the front desk again and went down to the front desk and basically had to tell at the front desk clerk about the issue because I know what I saw, and I was not going to stay in a room with bed bugs. After I got angry then there was magically another room open on a different floor. I was able to switch rooms almost 4 hours after complaining of the bug issue.
This place had the worst staff of any hotel I’ve ever stayed at, especially the front desk staff. I was embarrassed for the city of chicago that guests from around the world were having to deal with their incompetence. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone!

Stayed here Memorial Day weekend and it was really nice and inexpensive.
I searched the Magnificent Mile shopping district for a great rate and came across the Residence Inn Downtown. We had an extended stay room with full kitchen, 1 bedroom and living room with sleeper sofa. For the price of $ 206 + tax, we had an enormous clean room — 740 ft sq (compare to typical room of 420 ft sq) and a free breakfast with 2 blocks of the Magnificent Mile and 2 blocks from the lake. Easy check in & out, convenient location, free breakfast, big room — loved it all.
TIP: since rooms have full kitchen, walk a mile or so to Eataly Chicago and shop for upscale food and cook a nice meal in your room after a big day of shopping.
I would return to this Residence Inn.

Stayed here for a few days for work and overall ive had a pleasant stay. Every member of the staff has been more then helpful and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. I probaly had the best sleep of my life on one of the hotel beds yesterday omg!
The free breakfast in the morning is something you can feel free to miss, your better off buying your own groceries and cheffing it up! Its located right off the water and is a block away from lots of great stores, restaurants etc. Its a good option if your ever in Chicago!

The location of this Residence Inn is primo. It’s 2 blocks away from shopping and all the major bus lines (that I used frequently to travel up to the Boystown area). Upon check-​in, I was immediately upgraded to a one bedroom suite when I inquired about an oven being available in the kitchen. While the breakfast was run-​of-​the-​mill typical hotel breakfast buffet, the area was well kept and clean. When I decided to extend my stay in Chicago for an additional 2 days, the hotel general manager took me into her office and personally tried to negotiate a rate for my extra stay. My room was quiet and always well-​kept by housekeeping. I’d stay here again in a heartbeat!

Decent location, decent price. Decent all around. Nothing stood out as bad here, nothing was particularly great either. On the smaller size rooms for a Residence Inn, but it’s in a high rent area so it’s not too surprising. Not a particularly great view… you get what you pay for and this hotel gives you clean, standard quality at a decent price point.

I’m torn between 3 and 4 stars. The hotel was nice, decently priced, close to Lake Michigan and Water Tower Plaza. The complimentary breakfast was adequate, including scrambled eggs, potatoes, cereals, yogurt, oatmeal, etc. It is pet friendly. Downfalls include the horrible elevator situation (super small and only two, plus a service elevator), heat in the room (temp was uncontrollable, other than opening the window to cool the room down when it was 20 degrees outside), and the hot water went out the last morning we were there. I’ll give them the benefit of doubt that isn’t a common occurrence, but it was really annoying not having heat between around 8−11am. Service was great with the exception of one lady at the FD who in reference to the water situation, failed to apologize and said «Well, I gave you a late check-​out.» I would stay again overall.

Great location if you are going shopping in Chicago. It’s an easy walk to the American girl store and Michigan avenue shopping. Just three blocks. The hotel is very family friendly. It’s a bit on the smaller side for a residence inn. There are only two small main elevators which is a bit inconvenient during busy times. The rooms are nice though, ours had a great view of the lake. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

So I started out on a sour note with this hotel and the only reason I am giving them 2 stars is because they did make it up to our group.
My hubby and I drove into the city ans staying at this residence inn and planning on doing valet which they post as $ 47 plus tax… so $ 60 (Uhm please just go find yourself a parking garage down the road). We pull up at we’re told by valet their lot is full and to park a little bit down the street… excuse me what?!? How is your lot full??? Ok, I was a good sport about it… until that lot was full and had to park 3 blocks away… not cool. Finally get to the hotel and I ask to speak to the manager. I told her what happened And was trying to explain that I don’t understand how that’s possible! You are an extended stay hotel so I’m sure lots of people drive/​rent a car therefore needing the valet service. She was very rude saying it was out of their control, yada yada… uh no, that doesn’t fly with me. I don’t deal with rude customer service very well. That’s why the starage is so low. She did give me a bonus of 10k points and they sent up a box of 4 gourmet cupcakes from sprinkles down the street… that was very very sweet of them… ok do maybe I’ll give 2.5 stars…
Otherwise the hotel is fine. they must have been changing the TVs in the rooms becuse on our floor there were boxes and TVs all along the hallway… classy.
Fitness room is nice… free breakfast. Our room was cool. 2 bedroom suite with only one bathroom… that was fun ;)
Unfortunately we won’t be staying here again just due to their customer service, but I still love my Marriott hotels!

A great location off of Magnificent Mile. You could walk to Lincoln Park, Navy Pier, Magnificent Mile and many restaurants in the area. There were always cabs right outside the door to grab and go to other places and even those other places… within a quick cab ride!
Free wifi. Free breakfast (hot and cold).
I understand the parking is steep but we didn’t drive so it wasn’t an issue for us. But, I think that parking will be high anywhere down here on the Mile!
The room was nice, clean and large enough for us. I can’t speak on the maid service because we did not partake of that service while we were on site.

Nice hotel, but the location is GOLD. Took my family of 5, and being a few blocks from the American Girl store/​Mag Mile and a few blocks from the beach was ideal. We walked easily to Navy Pier and Millenium Park.
The complimentary breakfast was ok, but did save us a few bucks each morning. It’s a nice touch, and great for families like ours. We had a 2 bedroom suite and it was very spacious with a separate living room, which came in handy after we got the kids to bed. The valet guys and staff were very friendly and helpful.
The elevator situation is kind of a bummer. They get really crowded and slow during the breakfast rush. It took me about 30 mins to get our luggage downstairs to check out. There is a service elevator that’s bit hidden near the lobby and that’s quicker, but people catch onto that quickly and it becomes crowded/​slow itself.
Parking was a little confusing as they advertised $ 45/​night rates and then when we pulled up they offered Valet for $ 57/​night or a parking garage down the street for $ 45.
Overall a very good experience and I would recommend this hotel for families.

Spent five nights here in July 2013 and was quite happy. The room was quite large and the bathroom was okay but newer. The hotel was in a great location and not on a major highway. Had an issue with an overnight staffer and was addressed immediately by the assistant General Manager the next day. Quite a few restaurants nearby deliver. The breakfast was decent and the staff amazing, including being treated to some wonderful singing on several mornings. Being there for five days, I utilized the laundry and all worked well. Any complaints would be related to other guests thinking their dogs are people, while the hotel specifically has a pet elevator. I have family look after my pets! A final touch was the evening Manager’s special and on July 4^th walking one block and seeing fireworks over Lake Michigan.

Very nice hotel, and the location is great. We had a good experience here, and were bumped up to a king suite because of our gold elite status. The room was huge and very nicely appointed, though the couch was a little worn on the cushions. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchenette was spacious and nicely appointed. I will say the bathroom was a bit small, but not uncomfortable. Parking, like anywhere in downtown Chicago, was expensive, but you just have to learn to get used to it. The location of the hotel is just a half block from the Drake, and is in a very nice area where you can walk to everything on the Mile, as well as jog down to the waterfront or Navy Pier.
Breakfast was fine, though the coffee was the typical drivel, but a starbucks was only a block away so we could cope just fine. The staff was friendly and attentive and we had a great stay, though only for one night. When we’re back in town, we will definitely check out this hotel again.

My girlfriend and I came here for a night after we got snowed in. We were supposed to go to Omaha, but Chicago weather got the best of us.
Anyway, the rooms are affordable and VERY large. We have two dogs and the pet policy was very good. The only caveat to the pet policy was that the hotel doesn’t like you take your dogs up the main elevator, you have to use a service elevator instead.
During peak hours, it was very hard to ride the elevator with two dogs with the closure of the service elevator.
Anyway, this place is great. The suite are very large with a big living room.
The location is just so-​so though.

The good: Large room (2 bedroom), very clean, quiet, kitchen, etc.
The bad: The smallest bathroom I have ever seen, low ceilings, and old elevator. The room heat was uncontrollable.
This is an old building that was updated to be a hotel.
I would not stay here again.

I’ve had the pleasure of being a semi-​permanent guest at this hotel for the last month via my insurance. I am MORE than happy to come home at night to my huge one bedroom apartment with full kitchen and king bed! Me and my dog (and 2 cats) have enjoyed the free breakfast and dinners and my little pom hits up the dog run whenever we can. Everyone is SUPER friendly from the valet to the housekeepers (and trust me I’ve seen them in every situation seriously this is my home). My favorite things are:
1. Free food! YES
2. Free coffee all day long
3. You can mail things from the front desk
4. Cute private locked dog run with pebbles on first floor
5. My M-​F housekeeper I need to catch her name she is so sweet
6. Never a wait for my valet car… ever!
Secret things? Valet from 0 – 4 hours is only $ 12 bucks! I’m totally parking here anytime I want to go downtown cheapest in the area.
The neighborhood, although 1 block to bustling Michigan ave is very very quiet. You can see the horse drawn carriages on the weekend bustling through the hood. Kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans, knives, cutlery, toaster and wine key.
Guess the only sad thing is not a ton of cable channels that I’m used to but that’s probably normal. As for the poor review about guests harassing him in the lobby… that was probably me if he had a vikings shirt on ;)

My husband and I had to find short term housing when our condo caught on fire during the summer. Staying out in the suburbs wasn’t an option for us, so the Res Inn on Walnut made the most sense. Plus, they are dog friendly. While the circumstances of our stay put a damper on everything, we managed to make the most of spending a month in a hotel.
The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our entire stay. The king suite was very roomy and comfortable. Lots of places to throw our stuff and hang our clothes. The bathroom/​vanity area had lots of drawers to store all of the items we needed for the month. The internet was free and easy to use. It was helpful to have an equipped kitchen so we could make our own meals. They provided towels, clothe napkins, etc… Although I don’t think they had dishsoap… that would have been helpful.
They also had activities from time to time in the lobby. Whether it be a «nacho bar Thursday» or «guest appreciation cocktail hour», it was nice to have events built into the week.
This is a good hotel if you’re traveling w/​a group or over a longer duration of time. It’s near a lot of main bus lines and not too far from the L. Plus, Oak St Beach is right around the corner! It’s also easy to get to the bike path.
