I would be very uncomfortable recommending anything from Chicago Canvas:
This is the letter I wrote:
On 8÷4÷2015 I purchased a 16×20 canvas from your company and I am very disappointed in the quality and the fact that it is «highly flammable» and believe you should refund my money.
The product ripped out of the eyelets on a windy day; it was just a windy day nothing like a storms or high winds.
When we tried to work with it shreds, you can easy tear it with two fingers from end to end. This is once the eyelets ripped out — was going to repair it.
When you work with it it starts to go to like calk /​powder; in less than two months the canvas to has begin to deteriorate. We were using it outside.
The canvas caught fire when a spark from a grinder hit it (the grinder was approximately 15 feet away from it) — You do not list it as ‘Highly Flammable” and you should.
The canvas is useless. I purchased it from your company based upon the fact «you are a canvas company» and I believed that your canvas would be the best quality of all the canvases I viewed but this has not been my experience. Again I am very disappointed and believe you should refund my money.
This was their response:
These are oil & wax treated tarps. They are not flame retardant. Canvas is not meant to be tied down as a canopy because it’s cotton. Any cotton will rip under enough pressure.

My company got seriously hosed by Chicago Canvas and Supply, I would strongly encourage you take your business elsewhere. My producer contacted this company and asked for the thick, red, iconic curtains seen at old theaters. At no time was he offered a sample to view. He ordered the curtains, and $ 3100 later we were given orange bedsheets. When he politely asked for a return, we were told they do not do returns on custom orders and that it was his fault because he refused a sample.
The representative stated in an email «We are not sure what you meant when you say theatre curtains» and «it is not my job to educate customers», but felt no apprehension about placing the order regardless and not telling my producer about the return policy. Take your business to someone who will put the time and care in to ensure your order is correct and inform you about the return policy when placing your order, otherwise there is the potential to be swindled out of thousands the way they did with my company.

I work for a large rehearsal studio company in NYC. We have been using Chicago Canvas for 2 years for theatrical curtains, after using 3 other companies who we were not satisfied with. I’m not sure who the one-​star reviewer talked to, but I have never received anything but solid, friendly service from these guys. Usually I deal with Cheryl. Their prices are good, their quotes are accurate, their product is fantastic. I have recommended them to several colleagues.

We have been looking everywhere for canvas and found this place online. They have a great selection, but sheesh not that friendly to babies!
The canvas we purchased wasn’t the best fit for our patio and had to return it. From talking /​dealing with the receptionist to Brad and Karen. it was depressing. Shirley had to eat a bucket of Haagen Daz Banana Split ice cream just to feel better from a 2min conversation. They make you feel like you’re bugging them and asking stupid questions. Sheesh guys, I know selling canvas and tarp is not the most exciting products but have a cookie so you can deal with «customers», whom you probably want to have/​keep, better.
Three stars for selection, but one star for customer service. Overall, do not recommend.

I must say that this company provides awesome customer service. I order 30 yds of canvas. I was sent an email telling me that they were out and that they would upgrade it to a better canvas for free.
The canvas arrived quickly and looks great.
