They were so prompt in helping a little yellow belly sapsucker who had flown into the window outside of my work– he is safe and not too badly injured– they followed up and said he is going to be OK :)

Wonderful organization! When I reached out to them about an injured pigeon that was on my door-​step they came, picked him up and are nursing him back to help. Thank you!

This place made me HIGHLY UPSET! I called and spoke to a rep there about a seagull I found with a broken wing. The first time I spoke to her she was nice. But when I called her back the second time to tell her that I was willing to pick up the bird and take it somewhere, before I can even tell her she answered the phone and said, «Stop calling calling about that gull»!!! Then hung up!!! Seriously! And the bird never got help so it’s probably dead! As a person who works with animals and has a degree in Animal Sciences I was very surprised and upset.

A small bird hopped on my hand right by my office building so I brought it up to the office to find the phone# for them and while attempting to put a bird in the bag it flew! Needless to say it took us a good hour to catch the birdie again — Dorothy, the woman manning the phone was awesome, giving us tips and so on! Once we caught it we called them again and within 40 minutes a volunteer came in to pick this little fella up! They are doing an amazing job!
Unfortunately at our building an amazing amount of birds die every week because they collide with the windows :(hopefully this little guy makes it — it didn’t seem injured and after waiting for 20 minutes for the volunteer he started to chirp and rustle in the bag demanding to be let out IMMEDIATELY or else :)
Awesome people and an awesome birdie! (it looked like common chiffchaff but what it would do in USA?! Probably some kind of relative that just looks similar :))

I found a tiny, and I mean tiiiiny, baby bird on my front steps. So tiny he had no feathers. So tiny I thought he was dead until I approached him and he lifted his tiny head with his little beak wide open. I was worried there was no hope – there’s no way I could care for a bird this tiny. I had no idea where he came from since there were no nests in sight. I called these folks and they put me in contact with Bill up in Lincolnwood, who would take the bird to a nature center in the west suburbs for rehabilitation and care. Apparently there are no places in the city of Chicago who will take in a baby wild bird for care. About a half hour later I’d turned the little guy over to Bill who said «He’ll be in rehab in an hour.»

I was walking my shiba inu down the alley by my house when he discovered this poor baby bird sitting on the concrete. Luckily I pulled him back before he could get to it. I spent the rest of the walk saying to myself, «it’s nature’s way. .. what are you going to do with it? Leave it alone. .. «Ten minutes later I am heading over there with my kitchen gloves on and I box with an old t shirt in it. I noticed a European Starling that was watching me gather the baby and wondered if this could be the Momma. When I got home (the sweet little thing chirping and chirping) I did some internet research and discovered the CBCM. I called and the nice lady Annette told me to call a man named Bill which I did. I ended up driving the baby bird to Bill who said he would take it from there. I asked him if he knew what it was and he said it was a Starling. So that was the Momma! Bill said he and his wife have raised nine of them so he is very familiar. He could not have been nicer. He said he will bring the baby to the sanctuary and it will be hand raised and then released into the wild. I was thrilled. Thrilled! So glad I got involved and so glad the CBCM exist.

I have to say that the CBCM are excellent. Every year, for the last 3 – 4 years, at my place of employment, a mother mallard sets up shop in our meditation garden. We’re talking nest and then at least 12 baby ducklings once the eggs hatch. And every year, when I call them to help remove her and her babies, they come. The ladies have always been so helpful. We are truely thankful for them. FYI, she’s back again this year, so we will be contacting the CBCM again!

I am very impressed with CBCM! I found a startled non-​native bird in front of my building, and called them with questions on what to do. The woman on the phone was very helpful, and even arranged for a volunteer to come out and rescue the bird within 20 minutes of my call. These people obviously care about birds, and can be trusted to provide proper care.
I was very concerned about the next steps for the bird, and the woman assured me that they would find someone to provide short-​term care for the bird while it heals, while looking for a long– term home.

As a former aspiring ornithologist, I am very fond of Chicago Bird Collision Monitor (an organization within the Chicago Audubon Society).
I was on my way to school when I came across a very tiny bird situated near the entrance’s stairs. Upon closer inspection, it was apparent that the bird could not fly. The poor creature was cold; its head tucked under its wing with its feathers fluffed up for insulation. Yes, I asked the bird if it was okay and all of a sudden, it hopped onto my sleeve. It looked so precious and sweet as I shielded it from the wind and cold with my hand.
I went to school and had it put into a brown bag. I called CBCM and within 30 minutes, a volunteer arrived to pick the bird up. He took a look into the bag and told us that the cute feathered ball was a brown creeper. It was most likely stunned from colliding with a building. The volunteer told us that approximately 80% of rescued birds are released, and around 15% need to be rehabilitated. He took the bird to be transported to their Willowbrook location.
The brown creeper, which I fondly named «Woody», seemed to be in good enough health. I hope it returns to the wild. I just couldn’t bear to see such an adorable, innocent creature die from the cold (or being stepped on) in the middle of a dark alley.
Anyway, I was so impressed by the responsiveness of CBCM and the values of the organization itself that I went online and made a donation the day after Woody was rescued.

I found a strange little bird that couldn’t fly in my parking spot. I thought it was a swallow. I called around and left messages at three different wildlife rescues, with no response. I called my vet and they gave me CBCM’ number. They returned my call and had a volunteer came to Morton Grove in about an hour. I called the next day and they told me he is a chimney swift. I would give 5 stars, but the place they take the birds to, I am told, puts them to sleep more then private places.
Update: With in a day, the bird was put down. I will NEVER USE THEM AGAIN!
In CBCM defense, they only transport, but I will definitely go somewhere else.

I found an injured bird near my house. It was not your garden variety flying rat, so I figured the best thing to do was give it some shelter, etc.
This sucker looked like a fat dove, but with yellow dots encircled in black. Also, it had a thin 5 inch beak. A pretty nifty lil guy.
So I google search «chicago bird rescue» and find the CBCM (Chicago Bird Collision Monitors). Within 30 seconds of speaking with the helpful lady on the line she identified the bird as an American Woodcock (google images confirmed her bold claims). She said that it must have collided with the 30+ story building behind my place during it’s migration.
An hour later a volunteer was at my house picking him up. This service is completely volunteer. If it had been a pigeon, I would have left it and never have learned about the CBCM. Great people. Save the birds, save the world!
