History

Established in 1966.

1966: A group of Chicagoans came together to save H. H. Richardson’s Glessner House from demolition. The successful effort led to the founding of the Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF).

1970s: CAF initiated its award-winning volunteer docent education program and began offering tours, exhibitions and educational programs.

1990s: CAF moved to its current location, the Railway Exchange Building on Michigan Ave, and expanded its tours and exhibitions.

2009: CAF unveiled the Chicago Model, a 1000-building scale model of downtown.

2011: CAF held the first Open House Chicago, a free citywide weekend festival.

2014: CAF debuted the ArcelorMittal Design Studio, a collaborative learning space for all ages with LEGO® bricks and other design tools.
