Charles Shulruff, DDS

I felt inclined to write this review of Dr. Shulruff because I feel that finding a new dentist is like taking a wild shot into the dark and hoping you land somewhere good. There are so many dentists, I wish there were an easier way to share the news when you find a good one, thus, I felt at least maybe writing a good review would help to share this great dentist with others. I was in and out of my appointment, yet I felt very well taken care of and all of the staff including Dr. Shulruff were a pleasure to interact with. I appreciated that I wasn’t made to feel as though I’m not taking good care of my teeth even though I tend not to keep regular dentist appointments. Guiltifying me into regular teeth cleanings is not going to make me want to come back, thankfully Dr. Shulruff did not make me feel that way and I am happy to say I will be back again.

I was home this past weekend from school and unfortunately had to get a cavity filled! I normally don’t like going to the dentist. However, this experience was not bad! This was my first time at Shulruff and I plan on going back. Once I arrived, the receptionist was very nice and made sure that I got in on time. Dr. Shulruff was very patient with my abundance of questions and walked me through the procedure. He helped me feel comfortable and at ease, which is not always the case when seeing a dentist!
I will definitely be going back to see Dr. Shulruff.

Dr. Shulruff is what a dentist should be. By offering a full suite of services, he eliminates the dreaded occurrence of, «Well, you really need this done but we don’t do that here; let me refer you to a specialist». Professionalism is a strong suit of his and you can tell he tries to make sure that every patient gets the care and service that they need, the way that they need it. The fact that he is a U of I alum is just the icing on the cake! Go Illini!

Dr. Shulruff is a good and honest dentist who provides services to his clients with quality general dentistry services like filling cavities, performing root canals, and he is always conscious of his client’s needs and concerns. Going to the dentist is nobody’s favorite activity, but at least going to a good one makes the whole process much more enjoyable. Thanks, doc!

I had a very positive experience with Dr. Shulruff. I was a first time patient and I had no expectations as I had previously only been to one other dentist. Dr. Shulruff and his staff were very very friendly and on my visit back, I was happy to see that they even remembered my name. There was not a long wait, which is usually my complaint when visiting a doctor/​orthodontist, etc and his office is very clean and expectantly antiseptic. I had a teeth cleaning and a crown refilled and I thought that the office was very flexible in terms of times I could come in and payment plans. No real complaints here.

My experience with dentist, Dr. Shulruff and his staff was really good. The dentist is not one of my favorite things to do and they make it as good as it can get. Office person, Gina is very nice and organized; the dental staff is very helpful. Dr. Shulruff is very nice and makes you feel extremely comfortable. I also like that he does what needs to be done. He doesn’t push unnecessary extras to increase the bill. Just a great dental office and experience for anyone interested!

I see you’ve made some strides in discussing costs with your patients Dr Shulruff, from the sound of this response anyway. Congratulations on that.
Since my relationship with you as a patient had gone all the way back to when you took over from Dr Ewald, my opinion was not expressed without a great deal of thought. First of all we were not dealing with «badly chipped teeth» as described in your response. I had one tooth that had chipped at an angle. As far as the payment amount that you mention in your response it would be correct but for what was omitted. I offered to pay $ 100.00 per month until there would have been the ability on my part to complete payment sooner as I had done many times in the past. I seem to recall at times having a credit balance to be used for future procedures more than once. It was only after your staffer became quite nasty with me on the phone and had begun charging interest on my balance without benefit of an agreement or disclosure that I decided to make the payments that I did. It is true that Lisa Madigan’s office had expressed an interest in those practices but I did not pursue it because it was not my intention to ruin your practice – it was simply to let your office know that it was wrong to do such a thing. Had you personally picked up that telephone and asked me I would have been more than happy to explain my concerns and reach an agreement on payment terms. I always felt that you were an excellent dentist but had to assume that your staff member was speaking for you by the time things fell apart like they did. I hope that this communication helps you to understand exactly what happened from the perspective of the patient and wish nothing but the best for you and your practice in the future. As for myself I have established a solid business relationship with another Dentist. and have maintained excellent dental health.

I have had nothing but great experiences with Dr. Shulruff. I can’t speak to dental emergencies as I am happy to say I have not had any. I can speak to his professionalism and how healthy my teeth and gums are since going to him. He is on time, does a very thorough job and has found a couple of problems that my past dentist had not and this stemmed a future problem that would have been costly and painful. I am a big fan and would recommend him to my loved ones so of course I recommend him to anyone looking at his reviews.
