CC Ferns Coffee Bar & Spirits

I tried their whiskey & cream coffee and it was excellent! My friend wanted the ginger spice latte, which they were out of, so the barista comped the other drink. The vibe is chill and the crowd is not obnoxious. I highly recommend the boozy steamers.

First time at CC’s
Americano was a bit dry but enjoyable, tried the macchiato as well as their lemon poppyseed donut: impressed with the flavors.
Chill atmosphere+cool music, had a nice time sitting with a small group (We’ll be back soon)

The best coffee in Chicago by far. It’s consistent in quality and cool.

Great coffee shop, have only been here once but the quality of the coffee was very good, friendly staff, and nice environment for working or hanging out. Will be back and highly recommend!

I do like the boozy coffee drinks. My only suggestion would be that they not come in little tea cup size. They are really tasty but need to be a bit larger.

Oh I love a boozy caffeinated drink! Not only can you get coffee drinks here, you can get many of the offerings with booze! Not to mention, the décor is soo inviting and cozy. It’s like sitting in a hunting lodge that’s hidden from the world. What a hidden gem.

This place has mad flavor. And not just the coffee but the spot itself too. Very cozy with a mix of tables and desks, chairs and sofas. Good lighting. Funky old school décor with vintage aviation posters on the walls.
«Strong drip» or whatever their plain ol’ coffee is called was pretty good. About $ 2.50 for a mug drinking in. David P’s latte or cappuccino looked pretty tight.
I’m getting into photography, can’t you tell from my fab Unilocal photos? So I was pleased they had books scattered about, one of which was a giant Vivian Maier, «America’s Street Photographer,» retrospective. I rarely like to linger in a place for longer than 20 minutes but here I think we done killed 1.5 hours or more.
They have alcohol too. Great spot to have you a shot or «boozy steamer,» which I’m sure are great and to be investigated further at a later check-​in.

I love love love metropolis coffee so of course I was excited for this new spot but sadly no matter how many times I go in the coffee is just not good. It usually tastes burnt or bitter.
I tried a regular coffee and a cortado but would much rather get quality coffee at star lounge a few blocks away.
Definitely worth checking out for the vibe though and grab a slice of pie from the place next door!

Steered there by daughter who lives nearby. Probably the best cappuccino I’ve ever had.

I ventured here strictly for the Sodikoff brand. How could one restaurateur be so incredibly talented?!
An inconspicuous, and stupendously excellent café, their coffee (drip and mixed) are made for every coffee snob around. It is a living-​room style setup, with a large couch, small tables and single cushioned chairs scattered throughout. The noise level is minimal, making it a great place for reading/​studying/​working. The lighting is dim. Service is prompt.
Enjoy, caffeine freaks.

Go here for the latte of your dreams! I only ranked four stars because they were having wi-​fi issues while I was there, but otherwise, A+. I loved my pumpkin caramel latte, the vibe was great, and it was a comfortable place to sit and work for a while. It’s small, though, so I might have been lucky to get a table.

If you like dark roasted coffee, this is your spot. It’s not my thing but it’s not a deal breaker. The espresso I got had me grabbing for water to wash out that roasty bitter taste.

I planned to just stop in and get a coffee to go, but that changed when I stepped inside.
The space is gorgeous and just envelopes you in a different world. It’s not sleek/​modern or cute/​shabby chic like some of my other coffee house faves. This space has some mid century modern living room and rec room vibes, but it’s definitely cozy and designed for some in-​house-​coffee-​sipping/​lounging.
So I stayed in and enjoyed a delicious pumpkin caramel latte (which beats the pants off of SBUX’s PSL) and a coconut old fashioned donut (they carry doughnut vault goodies). Other than the regular coffee staples (espresso, latte, ice coffee) they also offer «boozy steamers» and which I would love to try the next time I can hang out in the area. Their Strawberries and Crème sounds luxurious! crema de alba, strawberry liqueur, milk.

Great space, even better quality and service AND it’s less than a 9 iron from mi casa. The place is sufficiently bad ass serving up delicious Metropolis coffee and doughnuts from Doughnut Vault.
Ten years living in the area and they’re finally getting the Cali/​Augusta strip on track. Rootstock the pioneer if you will — unless you include the Clipper in that category — you’ve now got Spinning J’s, Haywood and CC Ferns with a soon to be, aptly named Calagusta Café and European Grocer coming to a corner near you. And it will be run the former Exec Chef of Rootstock.

I’m writing this at 3:45 am maybe this is when I do my best work.
C.C. Ferns literally located in the back of California Clipper off Augusta Ave is one quirky place. If you have been to Sodikoff’s Roxie’s by the Slice, this is the coffee shop version. It looks like Archie Bunkers Place collided with Sanford and Son. A lot of earthy tone colors, dark yellow, greens, brown, jukebox tans. The floors and ceiling look like they haven’t been touched in decades. All topped off with a 1950’s refrigerator. Despite all this 70’s flashback craziness I absolutely love it. There may not be a more chill coffee shop in all of Chicago. You can really get some work done or get that Tinder profile exactly the way you want it. The menu is small not a lot of fruity sweet drinks here. This is for real coffee drinkers. They serve LA Colombe coffee and their menu pretty much is the same as their shops. Unlike LA Colombe this spot is super small, so you better get here on a slow day at a slow time. Otherwise the California and Augusta intersection is not the most exciting or safest place to be. Just saying! Additionally If you want some of those delicious Donut Vault Donuts get here early they sell out quickly.
Two main issues I have with this joint. One is the lack of Donuts. They should have enough donuts to last a majority of the day and not just a few hours. Do they only expect five people to walk through that door? Just imagine the look on their faces when a soon-​to-​be fat guy whose metabolism is falling faster than Starlin Castro’s batting average wants to order three of those things. Shock ensues! My other issue is why do they serve all coffee in to-​go cups. Coffee should be in the typical ceramic mugs not paper to-​go cups. The container in which a drink is served plays a huge part in a drinks appeal as well as the establishments. Just like certain type of cocktails belong in certain types of glasses, a cup of Joe belongs in a ceramic mug. I’m sure Mr. Sodikoff can find a garage sale and buy up a few throwback cups.
Overall you can’t beat the vibe and quality of C.C. Ferns. If you love no-​nonsense coffee in a quiet relaxed atmosphere then there is no need to go elsewhere. Just be prepared to drink out of a paper cup and probably without a donut.

Love this place! It is really cozy… very tight. I really miss the Knock Box but this place does fill the empty spot in my heart.
The barista is very friendly and easy on the eyes. Good coffee and great looking donuts.

Im in love. I feel like i finally met my coffee shop match. I fell in love at first sight, got to know it, and love it more as we get to know each other more
I always feel like goldilocks when it came to finding the right coffee shop for me. I was going to star lounge for a while, like it, but it was a little too loud for ME. Also not a place i felt comfortable sticking arnd too long but had delicious coffee we still brew at home.
Anywayy, CC ferns had the perfect atmosphere for me, very humble and friendly baristas that after 2 weeks already call us by name and know what i get. They carry a selection of donuts from the Donut Vault which can be dangerous! (ive had donuts for breakfast almost 5 days in a row) So good tho. I love CC Ferns and hope it will continue, because it truly makes me feel like an extension of my own living room space.

The ambiance of CC Ferns is just fantastic. Even though the coffee shop has wifi, this is the kind of place where you sit and talk or read and soak it all in. The seating and décor support this great vibe of reading in a 1970s cabana or Elvis’s Jungle Room.
The coffee itself is quality. (The boozy drink menu looks great with reasonable prices of $ 7). The espresso is menu is standard, without frills, but you can personalize a drink with almond milk or with vanilla, almond, chocolate, or salted caramel syrups.

Spent a few hours this afternoon sipping on iced coffee in this well decorated and bright spot. The surrounding intersection of California and Augusta has been booming over the last year or so and this addition continues that trend. The coffee shop is essentially the rear of California Clipper.
Friendly workers, casual environment, and off the relatively beaten paths that are Damen, Chicago, Division, Western, etc.
Will certainly be back. Their hours are fairly limited at this point but I overheard someone mention that they may extend them.
