Care In the Square

I totally agree with my husband’s (Mike R.) accurate review and I think it’s valid to let all opinions be heard no matter how long it’s been. And Sarah is not correct in remembering the situation. My son was not exclusively breastfed. Yes, he drank breast milk but had been on the bottle since day one of his life. He drank from a bottle better than the breast. Believe me, a mom remembers these things.
I don’t know if Sarah is necessarily a bad care giver. She gave up too quickly to know. I do think she was just way in over her head having 3 toddlers and an infant to care for all by herself. I should have trusted my instincts when she didn’t agree to a program to ease my son into her care, which I wanted to do during my maternity leave.
What sucked was being stranded without care for my son 2 days after returning to work and having already used up all my vacation. I was a new mom and trusted that she knew what she was doing.
Yes, she may be a loving, caring person but it comes down to how she handles the stress of kids having bad days, adjusting to new care and working with parents to find solutions… none of which she offered. She gave up on my son on the 2^nd day, offered no solutions, and made it our problem by telling us that he was disturbing the other children by crying.
She did refund our money, minus the few hours he was in her care… crying…but we were back to square one. Well, worse than square one because I set up care with her before he was born.
«Care» in the Square… I think not.

Our 2yr old daughter has been at Care in the Square for about seven months now. We are so lucky that we found this place. In searching for a day care provider, we looked at several day care places and determined that Sarah had the values and experience that we wanted for our daughter.
I have to say that as relatively new parents, our expectations have been more than met, we are tremendously happy for the environment that Sarah provides for our daughter. Our daughter loves going each day, and has learned a lot under Sarah’s direction. I know that children are shaped not just genetically, but also by the environment they are in. While we see our daughter in the mornings and evenings and weekends, the reality is most of her time is spent in daycare while we work to provide for our family. I’ve been amazed with the development that our daughter and attribute a lot of it to the education she’s received at Care in the Square. My daughter brings home art work she’s made at day care, she can count up to over 20, and is always excited to talk about what she’s done during the day at day care.
I’ve become addicted to reading the personal emails that Sarah sends to us at the end of each day. In the emails, I get to learn about what they did during the day. Sarah has a written curriculum and in the emails, we see descriptions of the projects they did in the following areas: shapes, music, dance, art, reading, and science. In addition to the curriculum activities they’ve done, I also get to know the foods my daughter ate and how she felt during the day. She also gives us more details on some stuff that isn’t that important to me, but probably is to other parents such as number of wet and poop diapers changed and nap time duration.
Being very interested in nutrition for my daughter, I love that Sarah provides organic milk and other organic items when available, for my daughter. We’ve all heard the horror stories of young girls at the age of 7 getting their periods early because of the conventional milk system with cows being injected with growth hormones those synthetic hormones then get into the children t through conventional milk, and I’m glad that quality milk is being provided at Care in the Square.
Also, being a financial planner, I am very happy that Care in the Square is a certified day care provider and provides me with an annual accounting of how much I’ve paid during the course of the year and she provides at W-​10 (Dependent Care Provider’s Identification and Certification form). Being blessed that I can afford quality day care, and blessed that our tax system is supportive of giving parent’s tax relief for paying for day care, I’m glad that I can take all tax deductions available for paying for services at Care in the Square (ie. Dependent care flexible spending accounts, and tax credit for child and dependent care expenses).
In summary, being a parent, we have to make decisions about the best course for our children and the environment we can put them in. Sarah is simply an amazing person. Sarah is a mother, a teacher, daycare provider, and an artist, and I am so glad that my daughter can spend her days with her when I can’t spend them with her. In life, it is important to surround yourself and those you care about in relationships with positive, creative, trustworthy people and that is why we use Care in the Square for our daughter’s day care.
