Unfortunately I have to update my review. After a recent experience: my grandma wanted to go out to breakfast and we ended up at Café 63. It was a Saturday morning and my grandma has her favorite spot picked out at a table since it is hard for her to get in and out of booths. When we went to sit the waitress said sorry you will have to sit in a booth we save the tables for families… Even though there were 2 tables open and the place wasn’t crowded… My grandma didn’t complain but it was very frustrating that she had to squeeze into a booth and be uncomfortable. Anyways, my cousin ordered scrambled eggs and they came out sunny side up at this point we were already running late and she didn’t want to wait to have them remade when they should have been made right the first time. This wasn’t that big of a deal until I talked to my other cousin who had been to this restaurant recently and said she ordered a burger and they gave her a chicken sandwich… How do orders keep getting messed up. The worst part was what my cousin pointed out how the waitress was preoccupied with flirting with a man at the counter instead of the tables. Wouldn’t have been so upset with this place if they would have accommodated the elderly better as Café Rene used to. The best part is no family came in to sit at the table and all of this could have been avoided. Probably won’t be back.

Nice little spot to eat in the Midway area. Modern style and plating, great food smells coming in. The coffee was decent and they had packets of French Vanilla, and other various flavors for your tastes(alongside regular cream). Boo and I both ordered corned beef sandwiches, one with Swiss and one with American cheese, both of which were respectively good. Fries were also done well, with a flavor that reminds me of Brown’s Chicken fries for some reason. Nice little throwback for me. I didn’t want a red meat coma but I should have ordered the burger anyway; someone else had ordered it and it smelled amazing, coming on out. Server Rita was attentive(the breakfast sandwich she was eating during breaks looked really good too, actually), and owner Dale made his rounds to make sure everyone was doing okay. That one is important! Only drawback is that given the circumstances(I came around noon and I’d say it was less than a third full) I felt like I had spent more time there, overall, than I usually do at a restaurant or diner for breakfast. I could imagine that perhaps the kitchen is small, given the property’s own size. Granted, I have no problem waiting for a good meal. However, I could see this becoming an issue on a busy Sunday morning; especially when people find out about this gem, and want to come back.

We tried the newly remodeled place for the first time and indeed it was an excellent experience from the decoration to the stylish plates that they use to serve the meals on, and the food was excellent as well. I tried the veggie egg white omelette and my honey ordered the cheese burger with fries. Nice taste perfectly cook. Friendly atmosphere greeted by one of the owners That came to greet us few times to the table making sure we where doing good.

Was working in area, heard Café 63 was a good mom & pop place for a good lunch. Menu wasn’t anything extraordinary. But the food sure was. Ordered basic cheeseburger, may be the best burger I have ever had. My son had a BLT, basic stuff. Except it had 1 pound of bacon on it! 12 slices to be exact. Soup was amazing too. Ordered basic chicken soup but it was anything but basic. Had lots of flavor, spices; tasted like a southern jambalaya. This place comes across as a regular, basic restaurant, it’s not. It’s a whole lot more. Love places like this.

My husband and I ordered apple pancakes, they were regular pancakes with canned cold apples sandwiched in between. When I told the waitress that the apples were cold she brought back new pancakes with microwaved canned apples on top. Our waitress was friendly but odd, she was kinda loud & wore a very strong smelling perfume. She shook her wet hands on us when she finished filling my glass with water. I really wanted to support this mom & pop place but It is below average. I can make a better breakfast at home and with better quality ingredients.

Went here for breakfast with my 5 year old son. Ordered a skillet and my son wanted the same but I didn’t want to pay full price for one, since he will not be eating it all. Checked the kids menu and they have an option to have HALF of anything on the menu for a fraction of the cost. Love this idea and I think more restaurants should be doing this! Great atmosphere, cheap pricing, great food. We needed this in our neighborhood. Will be returning to try out lunch/dinner.

I feel like I’m being generous by giving them a 2 star review but alas I feel like I must so that maybe they see this review and make some positive changes. The hubby & I went a couple of times and unfortunately won’t be back. Here’s the short version: First visit: Amazing! Second visit: Total disaster! Strike 1: Still frozen biscuits, returned dish. Strike 2: ONE slice of unmelted Kraft cheese on skillet. Strike 3: Hair in skillet! Strike 4: Reheated mushy inedible biscuits. Strike 5: There won’t be one because we’re not going back. Our first experience here was wonderful. The place is small & cozy with a small parking lot in the back and the waitress was attentive. Hubby had the Apple pie French toast & loved it. I had the bacon milkshake(amazing!) and the 2 eggs with hash browns and bacon. Service was fast and food was good. We were excited to come back. Our 2nd visit was disastrous and is the reason we won’t be back. The whole time we were there for breakfast, there were only 3 other occupied booths, so not very busy. Waitress was nice & we placed our orders, a Café Renee skillet & an order of biscuits and gravy. We waited about 15 minutes & the waitress brings out the biscuits & gravy. She apologizes for not bringing out my skillet but says she didn’t want the hubby’s biscuits to get cold. He starts digging in while I watch him eat & immediately see a look of disgust come across his face. The biscuits were still frozen! Strike 1! Waitress comes around with my skillet & «toast». When it’s white & soft it’s not toast, it’s just white bread. Didn’t say anything because well, it’s just bread. Waitress apologizes because it took so long to get my food and says the chef made it with egg whites the first time so she made him redo it. Honestly I would’ve been fine with the egg whites if that meant actually eating together with my hubby. Hubby does tell the waitress about the frozen biscuits & she apologizes & says she will make chef make it again from scratch. Ok… so now I’m eating & he’s just watching me eat. As I look down into my skillet there’s exactly 1 slice of unmelted Kraft cheese. I realize this isn’t a fancy place but really?! Not even real cheddar cheese? And it’s not even melted! Strike 2! Alright whatever I’ll just mix it together & make it melt myself. I pick up my first bite of food & what is on it??? A hair! Alright, clearly we’re not meant to enjoy our breakfast today. Strike 3! Waitress comes around with the«redone from scratch» biscuits. Finally, we get to eat together! Nope! Hubby takes 2 bites and he’s done. Biscuits were the same ones just reheated in the microwave making them mushy and you could just taste the freezer burn. Completely inedible. Bleh! Strike 4! We pretty much gave up & didn’t say anything anymore. I don’t know if the chef was just having a really bad day because some items from the other tables also got returned. Another patron did complain about the toast & another table also got their order wrong and returned it. I’m really not sure what happened between the first time we were here and today, our second visit. Waitress did come around with a small free orange juice for the inconvenience, but I don’t think anything could’ve made up for today’s breakfast disaster. We won’t be back.

Went to the southside for brunch on the recommendation of my brother and I’m so glad he told me about this place. It is a perfect neighborhood gem. For a first timer I would suggest the corned beef hash skillet. Entirely different then the normal canned hash but delicious all the same. They also sell delicious dip s, try the pumpkin dip for the fall. The staff is very kind as well.

Chicken Parma The best in the city. This is what this neighborhood needed, a good restaurant with fresh ingredients, homemade sauces and soup. Try the specials. Very clean restaurant. Has a great vibe to it. You know what I mean? Where the owners make you feel at home. The place gets busy because it’s good but if you come at the off-peak times you get more personal service.

Only been here twice for breakfast. Food is top notch, but what really stands out to me here is how nice the staff treats their customers. Service is excellent. Dale the owner is a very cool guy. I mentioned something about a Chicago Fire Dept. Patch that was displayed at the front counter which brought back some great memories of my Dad, a 35 year veteran of the CFD who just recently passed away. Dale offered to get one for me. A week later he called me to come pick up the patch. Class act right there!

Very rarely do I give 5 stars. Not many good dining options in this neighborhood so I expected same old same old. Wow. Felt like I was eating in the west or south loop! Amazing! We over ordered so we can try interesting items-special note goes to: Texas style corn beef hash, biscuits & gravy and praline pecan bacon. Delicious! Very attentive wait staff Home made and cooked to order-come when you’re not in a big hurry. Can’t wait to go back for lunch options! Came back again 9/4/15-they don’t open for breakfast until 8:00-don’t get it. Very disappointed. Had to drive to Sammy’s. Lost revenue for you.

Had the Fiesta Omelette with chorizo, jalapeño peppers, onions and cheddar cheese, hash browns and Texas toast. Everything was ONPOINT! Coffee was consistently poured throughout our meal. Waitress was beyond efficient and courteous. It was a bit eerie because she knew how I’d like things before I even said anything(hash done hard, hot sauce rushed to my table and ice with my daughters apple juice). Chocolate chip pancakes were gone soon after arriving at our table — yummy!

Excellent breakfast. I had the steak and eggs breakfast with an English muffin at no additional charge for only $ 10. Generally cheap breakfast steaks are a bit chewy and not the best cut. I found this to be the exception. It was very tender and the marinade they used was delicious. The eggs were done perfectly and the hash browns were delicious as well. My co-worker had the oatmeal which came with fruit and and English muffin and he was very satisfied as well.

Went here for the first time a few days ago. This place has the potential for 5 stars but they need to work on a few things. The restaurant is small but inviting. It was clean and sort of cozy. We were greeted by a very friendly lady at the register and seated immediately. The food all tasted good and the coffee was good. Now for the negatives that only allow me to give this place 3 stars. The table was wobbling so bad that one little bump made me lose a ¼ of my cup of coffee. Sorry, but that kind of stuff needs to be addressed immediately. My coffee went empty and we waited quite awhile while our waitress stood behind the counter and stared off into space. Finally a different waitress came by and filled our coffee. My neighbor was dining in there and was seated in the booth next to us. He ordered the 1lb bacon BLT. It looked great but he informed us that it didn’t have any mayo on it and was sort of dry because of that. My wife ordered the same and loved the sandwich, however, she had to ask for mayo as well. I’ve never heard of a BLT not having mayo BUT if you’re going to serve one without it, you need to inform your customers and ask them if they want it because most people expect it. My son ordered the bacon waffle but we didn’t see any bacon in the waffle and he ordered praline bacon but was brought regular bacon. When we inquired with the waitress she said that she never heard of it. We informed her it was on the top of the sides menu. She went and retrieved a menu and brought it to the table, I assumed to show us that we were wrong but sure enough it was right at the top. She went and checked in the kitchen and informed us it would be a 15 minute wait. The good thing was that she apologized profusely and did not charge us for our son’s order of bacon. If you want 5 stars, you have to train your servers better. They should at least be familiar with your own menu before you have them waiting tables on their own. The last bit of advice I could give is that some of the portions are small for the prices. I ordered the skillet which tasted good but looked underwhelming. For $ 8.00 you have to serve a bit larger portion than what was in that skillet. When I go out to eat I should never leave still feeling a bit hungry and unfortunately here I did. I hope they take this review for the constructive criticism that it is because the last two restaurants at this same location failed miserably and deservedly so. Café 63 actually has a chance to make it here if they just put forth that little extra effort to make people say WOW instead of it was ok. We unfortunately have enough«ok» places to eat in this neighborhood and this place can and hopefully will be a great place to eat. I plan on stopping in a few more times to see what happens.
