This is a step up from what used to be here with the only exception being that they don’t make awesome hot sandwiches here anymore :( But Mike, Billy, Carlos, and the other two guys have done a great job loading the store with great varieties of beers, most of the really good ones you want, and some interesting beers and ales you might not have had anywhere else. Plus they have the ol 30 pack of Rolling Rock standby. They also have a nice selection of liquors too. This store really jumped in and took the business nobody else in the neighborhood had the vision/balls to take several years ago, and now some of the other corner stores have failed, and the supermercado is scrambling to try and follow what Boriken beats them at hands down despite operating in about 1⁄20th the space. Still waitng on the Red Breast single malt Irish whiskey though. If they ever get that in, I will do my best to always keep a bottle of that in stock.

This is my corner liquor store. I walk by every day and usually am tempted to poke my head in and grab some wine, beer or the hard stuff. I have also been known to buy a pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream… and nothing else… they don’t judge though. The guys there have always been really friendly to me. I think they’ll never be able to forget me because I once locked myself out of my apartment(no keys OR phone) and they let me use their personal cell phones to call my family and ask for help. So maybe we have a bond for life now, but I’ve never had a bad experience with the guys(there are 4 that I see there regularly). As for the store, it is not very well organized. They kinda have beers and wines split up in the coolers on both sides of the room and at the back. The hard liquor is generally lumped together, the sodas and other drinks are up by the register. They have random snacks and food items as well. Everything is a little bit more expensive than say at Target or Binny’s, but in a pinch, it’s fine. I paid $ 25 for Jameson when I could have paid $ 20 at Target(yes, I buy alcohol at Target! I’m a Target whore!). They really do have a generally good selection of beers for a corner store. They get Spotted Cow on occasion and I know that’s a big deal! But as I say, when it comes to needing something and you don’t want to stray far from home, this place is far better than what the Supermercado at Rockwell and Division offers in terms of liquor and prices. They also sell cigarettes and all sorts of smoking paraphernalia up front. I’m not into that thing(beyond a super rare pack of cigs), but they do offer those types of items for those so inclined. If you’re in my hood, check this place out!

I live around the corner from this place and go in probably once a week for beer or other miscellaneous items. I asked one of the guys there about some Goose Island fall seasonals and he told me to come back on Thursday when the delivery comes. So, the next Thursday I came in and asked. The guy behind the counter told me I had no business asking him about it and that he wouldn’t let me buy any even if I wanted because they only sell to ‘regular customers.’ I told him that I had already talked to another one of the guys that worked there about it, and that I was a regular customer, but he refused to answer me and rang up the guy behind me instead, who directed him to answer my question and asked why he was being so rude. There are plenty of other places in the neighborhood with better prices and selection, not to mention clerks who aren’t extremely rude.

This store is a great place to get whatever you need from groceries to a huge selection of craft beer. Also if you need anything they don’t have they are really great about getting it. Super friendly employees that always say hello when you walk in the door. Prices are really good too, I’ve been to the other stores in the area and they are the cheapest, cleanest, and friendliest one. They treat me really good and know me by name.
