Description

Specialties

We specialize in food for the soul; comfort food! Our signature dish is the Mustard Fried Catfish which we serve with a honey mustard sauce and our Peach Cobbler is reminiscent of the deep south. We offer a balance of Cherrywood smoked meats, slow-baked meats, smothered meats, sauteed and deep fried meats. As consumers become more health conscious, we adapt to those needs by offering five different steamed vegetables as well as salmon, shrimp and chicken salads. You will need to experience multiple visits to sample everything we have to offer. Don’t take our word for it, stop in and become a frequent buyer. Apply for a «Soul Card» free of charge and receive store credit for even more food. The more you buy, the more frequent the rebate. Lastly, our Stony location provides Zumba classes every Monday and Karaōke every Wednesday. BJ’s Market & Bakery — get connected today!

Meet the Business Owner

John M.

Business Owner

John Meyer, Chef/Owner of BJ’s Market & Bakery, graduated from Chicago State University in 1987 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing. He enrolled in the Culinary Arts Program at Washburne Trade School in Chicago where he was classically trained in French-American cuisine. While in chef’s school, John volunteered his time and resources to a senior respite care facility. He purchased food and supplies and prepared meals for the facility’s residents and families. After graduation, he worked at the prestigious University Club of Chicago to hone his culinary skills. After gaining invaluable experience at The University Club, Chef Meyer committed himself to opening a white tablecloth restaurant on Chicago’s South Side. Established in 1992, The Retreat Restaurant was housed in a renovated Victorian mansion in the historical Pullman area. Its vast popularity was attributed to delicious fare (ranging from classical French to traditional American cuisine), fine service and elegant atmosphere. J
