This review is specifically for the aftercare program. It couldn’t be more excellent childcare. My son attended Decatur Classical School and went to the JCC program for a few years. Wendy Singer(who runs the program) is one of the most caring people I know. She genuinely values and interacts with the children and is always cheerful and positive. I consider her to have been a really enriching part of my son’s childhood. Anyone would be lucky to have people like Wendy in charge of their children. When there was a death in the family, she even sent us a care package. So sweet. The program includes swimming twice a week, cooking, and art projects. When the weather is nice, the kids are always outside on the playground, enjoying the fresh air and physical activity. The assistants are college students, and able to help the Decatur kids with their challenging homework — so my son’s homework was always complete when I picked him up at 6, and we could just enjoy the rest of the evening together. They have really fun vacation days(including Top Chef) and they’re open on the days school is canceled or off. There is a real value on creativity and meaningful activity. Excellent program. Though the area is largely Orthodox Jewish, as is much of the attending community at the facility, the aftercare program is not heavily religiously affiliated at all, so any parent could feel comfortable having their child there.
