Meet the Manager

Manager

I was born and raised in Wilmette, IL and attended the University of Kansas to study Journalism to fulfill my dream of being a sports writer. After two weeks, my new dream was to not have so much homework, so I majored in Speech Communications with a minor in Drama-​this combination gave me the skills to get a girl who didn’t like me to eventually fall in love and marry me.

In 1988, I graduated and began my sales career with a computer memory chip company. In seven years, they went from 3 employees to 300 employees-​and I was the number one salesman. I quit in 1997 and my wife and I took a year off to travel the world. Four months later, I was broke. Soon after, a friend offered me a job as a loan officer at his mortgage company. That same company now has 12 offices and closes loans in all 50 states. I love this job because I’m able to help people find the right loan for the right situation. Dreams of being a sports writer have turned into writing mortgages, and I couldn’t be happier.

Barry is on top of his market… consistently the country’s Top 100 Loan Originators year after year. He is known for making the process fun and less stressful for everyone involved. I have worked with Barry first hand on my own home loan years ago and then again on a personal re-​fi. He is the most competent loan officer I have worked with professionally and personally. I refinanced with Barry twice within a 6 month period several years ago. He made the process very easy. He made every effort to make things easy on my part while also saving me a lot of money. During our first home buying process — we were concerned that the loan would be the most tedious, daunting part — even with our strong credit. Combine our nerves with the fact that we had very little knowledge on the whole process — thank god we had Barry and his team. There truly are not enough good things we can say about him — whether it was the responsiveness of EVERYONE there, or how patient they were to explain what was needed, or the competitive pricing. I honestly wish I knew more people searching for a home loan — because Barry and his PERL team are a no brainer. Again — the easiest, least hassling part of our home buying process.

I have zero hestiation in recommending Barry for any mortgage requirement. He did a great job and made sure he got the best rate and got the deal done. He was more competitive than other firms I considered and really took the time to understand the main issues. Closed with no problems and hit the terms and rates he quoted. I just completed my second refinance with Barry and I will never use anyone else! I wish I had known Barry when I bought my home in 2005 — the broker I used was a nightmare and the closing had to be rescheduled, and when I refinanced a couple years ago with a bank whose name I won’t mention but their initials are B of A! — they took over 80 days to close. A coworker mentioned Barry and said he does refinances for free so I figured I had nothing to lose. My biggest concern going in was that I had lost equity and may not be able to refinance. Instead of ordering an appraisal first, Barry consulted with a few appraisers he knows to get an estimate of what they thought my condo was worth. Once he knew value was there, we moved forward (whereas, in my previous experiences, the brokers will just collect an appraisal fee up-​front and you lose that money if the value comes in low).
Still skeptical about a no-​fee refinance, Barry told me the bank would pay him a commission and he used half of it to pay for the appraisal, title fees, underwriting, etc. He told me he doesn’t know if he is the dumbest broker in his office or the smartest because he makes the least on his loans but does the most business. Personally, I like his business model, and Barry and his assistant Jennifer are friendly and fantastic to work with! They made this transaction so much easier than I thought it would be. From start to finish it took 35 days, and we were able to do the closing in my home at night for no charge. The paperwork was not nearly as bad as I had expected it to be. Everything Perl does is in-​house and Barry and his team oversee everything to make sure all goes smoothly. Spread the word people — he is the real deal!
