B Square Salon

The first time I went to B-​Square Salon, I got a trim and a full dye for my graduation ceremony. I was extremely satisfied with the look and the price. However, I went for the second time in December, a few days before Christmas, and I wasn’t satisfied at all. I specifically booked Kit again because he did wonders on my hair last time. I wanted him to dye my hair lighter than the color I had before and give my hair a small trim. When I book someone to help me get my hair done, I expect that person to do everything for my hair and not just pass the work on to someone else later. Kit just trimmed my hair then let another person dyed it. When everything was done, my hair came out to be super dark, darker than before I came in. I wanted to lighten my hair. Not make it even more darker than it already was. So I thought, maybe I’ll give it a few weeks to let the color fade, but it only faded a little and I really hair dark hair on me. I like light brown hair. Aside from that, I thought the price would be cheap since last time I only paid 68 dollars for a trim and a color, but I was shocked when my bill turned up to be over 115 dollars without the 10% discount. I can’t believe they charged me around 30 – 40 bucks for a 1 inch trim. I tipped generously, even though I wasn’t satisfied with it. And because two people did my hair, I had to give tips to both of them which brings it to about more than 135 dollars for the finished look. I also paid for my sister’s color and trim too. Her overall finish was more than my overall look. I had to go to the bank to get more cash because i thought it’ll be like 68 dollars for one person. In total I spent around 250 bucks and coming from a poor, college student, it isn’t worth it. Anyways, I’ll just go back to my friend who also does a good job and charges less. I’ll come back to B-​Square, just not as frequent.

B Square Salon is amazing, although kIT is one of the most meticulous craftspeople I have ever come accross. She requires this kind of excellent treatment all the way, from hairwash to colouring to reduce. She will pay focus on what she actually is performing, and she will pay focus on what you really are informing her or requesting her to accomplish. I usually feel at ease and comfortable which i will appear having a wondwerful (and sensible) hairstyle.

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! I went there today for the first time and Kit cut my hair, he was like Edward Scissorhands, this man is magical! I loved the scalp massage! Prices are reasonable, I think I tipped more than the cost of the cut because I was so amazed with both the massage and the cut! I will definitely return! I got some really great tips from Kit and love his knowledge!

Love my haircut from here! A few friends recommended Chinatown as the place to get a good haircut for a fraction of the usual salon prices and they were right. There was no wait since I didn’t request anyone in particular. I got a wash, cut and blow dry for around $ 40. Be prepared to spend at least an hour there.
They strongly recommended thinning out my hair, which I was opposed to at first (because in Chicago, hair = warmth), but I’m glad I did. They styled it really well and I can still use my hair as a scarf :)
It’s been almost half a year and the cut still looks really good. Would come back for my next cut!

Oh my god. Just had the best experience ever. I’m already a regular, but today was extraordinary.
Kit wasn’t available, not a Big deal… Had my back up who is still pretty good — Linda. Linda was a 30 minute wait though so I asked if I could get a massage while I wait.
That would totally sound weird if I was a first timer, lol. I think all of their salon assistants realize how much I love a good cranial massage… So I caught myself and said, «I mean, can I get my hair washed while I wait?»
They were so ready. She gave me a thorough massage from my forehead, temples, scalp, neck, and shoulders… I was just like, «Yes! Finally!» Haha. I’m so stressed and lots of the pressure are in my forehead.
Then my husband came in after running errands, I looked at him and said, «Go get your scalp massaged NOW!»
With all of this excitement, I tipped her $ 45 for the both of us. I could spend every Sunday like this… Not wash my hair and get a scrap massage. Loooooove!

I recently ombré’d my hair and it came out really nice! I dyed my hair a dark color years ago, so the process took about 6 hours to achieve the final look. Sharon and the staff at B Square are great.

I moved to Chicago in August and I have already got my hair cut TWICE at B Square Salon (and it’s only November…). When I moved here, I needed a haircut and I had no clue where to begin finding a place so I did end up finding this place through Unilocal.
I haven’t made any appointments yet. I usually just make my way to Chinatown and tell them I’m walking in for a haircut. I have never waited more than 5 minutes yet. They’ll give you a locker to put your belongings and here comes the best part… THE HAIR WASH! They give the nicest scalp massage/​wash I have ever received in my life. It makes me want to fall asleep sometimes but I just sit there, close my eyes, and soak in the therapeutic feelings.
Afterwards, they let me to the salon chair and I was assigned a hair stylist. I’m not Chinese so it almost seemed like we had a language barrier going on but I did bring some photos and a list of what I wanted done on my hair. This helped make the entire haircut experience more reliable and promising. I have never been disappointed with the haircuts I’ve received from B Square.
I usually pay with cash, which comes along with a 10% discount. I am always paying between ~$ 29-​$ 35 and this includes the tip. In my opinion, I think this is a pretty good deal. I will probably be coming back here for all my future haircuts.

Have been getting my haircut here for over a year now and they’ve never disappointed. Kit does a great job cutting hair and knows his stuff. As noted by others, you start with shampoo, conditioner, and a scalp massage before getting your hair cut. Afterwards they’ll rinse your hair, dry, and style for you. FYI, they have lockers if needed to store a backpack or other items.

KIT IS YOUR MAN! Make sure to make an appointment with him if you want an awesome haircut! I’ve recommended 4 friends to him and they have had nothing but praises for him and all loved their haircuts! Definitely come here if you have Asian hair because they get it. Guys and ladies! It feels so good when they wash your hair and Kit is really good at giving you the hair style you want (it really helps if you bring a pic of what you want to show him).
Haircuts are around $ 30 which is a great price! Cheaper if you pay cash.
I’ve tried both B Square and Headquarters (which is across the street), and I would say that B Square is better because they’ve got Kit (who actually used to work at Headquarters).

I love coming to Chinatown to get my Chinese hair cut! For a cut and style, it’s $ 29 if paying cash, a bit more if paying by card. I know I’m always in expert hands here – both with the delightful 10 min shampoo massage and with the hairdressers. These folks know how to cut Asian hair, which can be finicky and stubborn if not treated right. I always get a pretty standard trim with layers, though I’ve seen other women walk away with really stylish bobs, color treatments, and crazier assymetrical styles.

I left it to the Unilocal universe to find a place to get a haircut and I was not disappointed!
I called earlier in the day to make an appointment for 5pm. The receptionist was helpful and asked for my info and what I planned to get done. She asked if there was anyone in particular I wanted to do my hair, I shared just anyone that can cut long layers.
I checked in at 5, and only waited a few minutes. I was then led by an attendant to wash my hair. He was super nice and also took my things to put into a locker. It was a spacious locker and you’re able to lock it and hang onto the key. Your personal belongings are secured. I thought this was super efficient.. The shampooing was super relaxing. Loved the shampoo and conditioner they used. It was smell good stuff and it was therapeutic.
After I washed my hair, I was led to the stylist. Her name was Lee. She was super nice. I showed her examples from Pinterest on what kind of look I was going for. She explained how much she was going to take off and what she was planning to do. Lee was very attentive and I really appreciate her attention to detail. I had her trim and re layered my hair. At the end, she shared how my hair looked like in the back and gave me some tips on how to take care of my hair. (I’m guilty of not properly taking care of hair)
This salon also gives you a discount if you pay with cash. My hair wash, cut and style was only $ 29! Can’t beat that price! I almost paid $ 50 at another place. I tipped Lee $ 10 because she did an awesome job.
I think I finally found my salon :)

They fit me in without an appointment in the same day. Sharon did my up do and was very friendly and detailed in her work. I love my hair do!

have got my hair cut with Sharon twice now. I have to say that she is very experienced, fast, and attentive to details. I got Japanese Straightening the second time that I visited. She was very patient to explain the details to me and to inform me what I can and cannot do afterwards with my hair. I am very satisfied with the result and would definitely go back next time!

Despite never living in Chicago (but often myself finding there), I’ve come back to Kit over and over. He has given me the haircuts of my life. I live in LA now, and when I have a stop-​over in Chicago, I see him again.

After trying out every place to cut hair in Hyde Park, and ending up with either a military or black haircut style, I decided to look elsewhere. And for $ 27 (10% cash discount), B Square Salon will cut my hair the way I want it, as well as giving good, full service. My girlfriend will either wait until a trip to LA or China to get a haircut, but B Square Salon is the one place in Chicago that will meet her standards.
Every haircut consists a shampoo and scalp massage, then a cut, another wash, and finally a style. And yet with all this the price is comparable to what you would pay for just a cut at most places in the area and downtown. The second wash is really useful, it gets all the small, cut pieces of hair out. I always immediately shower after a haircut, but do not need to for B². The cut itself is usually quick and expertly done. It helps to speak Chinese, but you can bring pictures on your phone and show them. I’ve been twice, had the same stylist, and looked sharp both times. Yes they excel at cutting asian hair, but they can cut white hair too.

I made an appointment here because it had good reviews on Unilocal and it’s reasonably priced. I asked for subtle and non-​chunky highlights. The TWO men who were working on my hair did not speak English very well; however, they assured me that they understood, and knew what they were doing.
After they said that my highlights were ready, they took me to the wash station to rinse out the dye. I was sitting there, under the faucet, for least twenty minutes while two different people washed my hair. It wasn’t a pleasant massage; no, it was painful. I was wincing, and said «ow» several times. One of the guys explained, to the best of his limited ability, that it hurt because my hair was too dry (I’ve never been told that before). I had to ask that they stop washing because I wanted to move on to the cut and blow-​dry.
When I looked in the mirror, I noticed that there were some very noticeable blonde streaks (mind you, my hair was brown before). I tried not to freak out just then because I thought it might look better when it was dry. The haircut and blow-​dry went smoothly (although it was nothing special), but to my dismay, my highlights looked even worse when dry. One side had way more highlights than the other, and all of them were streaky and far from the root. Please see the picture.
When I pointed it out to the haircutter, he ran to get the man who spoke better English (the one who told me that my hair was dry). That man informed me that I have to part my hair a certain way in order for it to look better. At that point, I went sorta diva.
Fortunately, I only had to pay for the haircut. I won’t be coming back ever again though, and suggest that you NEVER let them highlight your hair.

I don’t normally go to a salon for a haircut, but I decided to treat myself to brighten up my day. It was hot and muggy out and I was looking to get rid of some of my long hair. It’s been in the way lately. I called earlier that day to see if they can give me a haircut in an hour and they said okay.
Once I got there, I was taken in within 5 minutes. I got my hair shampooed which felt really good. I just like when people play with my hair in general. Then, I got Sunny who would cut my hair. He asked what I wanted and I showed him a picture of Taylor Swift and wanted a short cut. He put a great effort into my hair, which was awesome. I know my hair, thick and numerous, is a lot of work. I loved it and can’t wait to come back.

All of my coworkers highly recommended B Square Salon. They told me that their entire family comes here to see Sharon. The experience here was everything I expected and more.
Once you come into the salon, you can check in to the front desk. They have a designated place to hang up your jacket and lockers to put your purse in so you don’t have to lug it around. You will get a 5 minute head massage and shampoo before your hair cut. The chairs are super comfortable, and they don’t spray water into your eye. ;)
Sharon is amazing! She’s super nice and friendly! Not only is she super fast, she has a really good eye for detail. She will check and double check your hair cut. They will even style your hair afterwards, without an additional fee.
Girls, don’t be intimidated by all the men here. Girls are welcomed too! For $ 25, this was a great experience!

Will never go anywhere else for a trim. The shampoo stations cradle you like your childhood puppy and they have a stand to hold up your head so that you don’t get a crick in the back of your neck. They have free lockers to store your purse or items. The trim was professional and cheap — $ 25 for my long and layered white girl hair.
The clientele is mostly Asian men, meaning that the cut has more style to it what you would get in a standard salon for men. I was the only woman getting a trim when i was there (the stylist explained that women just get their hair cut less frequently). However, my accompanying manfriend got a great short on sides, long on the top hipster hair cut. Highly recommend for any man wanting an affordable, quality trim or wanting to punch up your hairstyle a bit.

I came here to donate my hair– I was very nervous, but this was definitely the right place to go. They were very accomodating and fit us in even though we showed up an hour early. They washed my hair with some great smelling shampoo, and included a very relaxing head massage. Then, Kit went to work on my hair. If you are planning on a drastic change, I would highly recommend Kit. He cut off about 14 inches of my hair, but gave me a style that I am really loving. He cut it in such a way that it sits very nicely. I showed him a couple of pictures of styles I liked, and he was able to emulate them. I thought I would hate short hair but I ended up loving it! If you have asian hair, this is the place to go.
The salon itself is very clean and visually appealing. They have lockers for you to store your things, as well as a coat rack. A cut and wash is very fairly priced, and they even offer a cash discount, so make sure you bring some.
Definitely worth the trip to chinatown! Unfortunately, they do not validate parking.

I wished give them 5 stars, but I’m not happy with my hair straightening. I came at 10am with a previous reservation and they even didn’t know about it. Then one girl came to me and asked me what kind of strightment I want. So I asked her what is the difference? She just said the Japanese strightment has more pressure than the US strightment. So to make sure that my hair get really straight I decided go for the Japanese’s one which it was more expensive ($ 380) everything started very well, she seemed very professional since she was like studying my kind of hair. She put me a lot stuff in my hair and the smell was terrible, but I didn’t care, I was very excited since they were using a good amount on me. I thought that would be better. Silly of me, when she started ironing my hair, she barely put pressure, and she just ironed my hair once. I knew that was not going to last too much. So I left the salon feeling confuse, worry, upset. After 2 days I washed my hair like she recommended. My hair looked very dry and dull but yet straight. Now after almost 2 weeks my hair has waves like before, but drier and duller after doing the hair straightening. I knew that was not going to last too long but I never tough it was going to last too short neither.
