b. A Salon on Armitage opened in Lincoln Park in November 2011 by Becki Shunick. Before launching b., Becki worked at some of Chicago’s most renowned salons, earning rave reviews for her skills as both a stylist and as a colorist.

She assembled a talented team of stylists and estheticians who will make your experience comfortable and unforgettable. No attitude, no affect. Just friendly, professional service, and the technical know-​how of the foremost hair and skin experts.

A vivacious personality with 20+ years of experience in this industry, not just as a stylist but also an educator, Becki opened b. A Salon on Armitage in Lincoln Park because she couldn’t find another environment where she could express talent while maintaining a luxury level of professionalism. She encourages her stylists to incorporate their own artistry while keeping with the most current trends. «I can honestly say there’s amazing work walking out that door», she says in regard to the stylists she’s handpicked to work alongside her. «Its about mentoring other successful stylists by creating a fun, relaxed environment that never slacks on stellar customer service.» she continues. After sitting in her posh but approachable waiting area it becomes readily apparent that she has indeed created an effortlessly chic space where high fashion and practicality have come together to produce Armitage’s finest boutique salon.

I took a chance and came to this salon after buying a gilt city coupon. I had tried a couple of different salons in the Lincoln Park area, and wasn’t thrilled with any of the results. I didn’t have high hopes coming into B. A Salon, but I LOVED my cut/​highlight with Morgan. I continued going to Morgan for 2 years until I recently moved to NYC. Morgan is amazing and I trusted her to give me something completely new, which I am now obsessed with and get compliments all the time. I am now on the search for someone to replicate her amazing work in NYC (if you know anyone please help!). Go to MORGAN if you want amazing color and an awesome cut.

I have been going to this salon since it opened and after trying many other places in the city and not being satisfied, I found the perfect place. They do an excellent job and are very professional, yet it is not intimidating or snobby — right up my alley! I have seen Stephanie since the start for color and cut and I am always happy with the result. She is also very honest and will tell me if she thinks something will not work out how I want it too — greatly appreciated, since she is the hair expert. I have gotten to know some of the other stylists and think are very consistent and friendly as well. I would highly recommend and am grateful I finally found my hair home!

When I moved to Lincoln Park a few years ago, I booked a haircut& highlights based on good Unilocal reviews and the fact that this place was down the street from me (it looked boutique, modern, and fresh). I took a chance and had the receptionist book me with whoever was available on my day off. And let me tell you, being assigned to Alex was one of the luckiest things ever! She’s been cutting and coloring my hair for 2 years, and I’ve been perfectly happy every time. She’s easy to talk to and listens to what you want. And her color skills are awesome!
Anyway, I recently moved to California and am now going through the dreadful process of finding a new hairstylist. As I’m sifting through Unilocal reviews, I thought of b. and how maybe this review might help someone like me, new to the area and looking for someone they can trust to cut& color their hair. Sorry this review is long overdue. Missing the relaxed ambiance of b. and hoping to find another stylist as good as Alex!

I’ve been going to Rachel for cuts for a few years now. She does a great job and it’s fun to go see her. I’ve had great interactions with the front desk people as well; they’ve been super helpful when I’ve been on the search for hard-​to-​find products.

I am really disappointed with my hair cut. I did ask for shorter length but needed nice layers and color. The stylist (Steph) just cut off my long wet hair really short at the very beginning and was thus left with no room for adding layers. Very disappointed with the final cut. it looks like I got my cut at Supercuts. I would skip it if you are looking for a proper cut not just a trim. hair color was ok but it better be good for the prices they charge. looks like Steph was a Level 1 stylist that cost me $ 180 of disappointment!

New in town and terrified to let a stranger cut and color my hair… I was referred here by a close friend, and I’m sure glad I went! Stephanie gave me full highlights and a fantastic cut and blow dry, exactly the way I asked for. The salon staff is very friendly and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new stylist. What’s the downside, you ask? parking is only what’s available on the street, so leave yourself a little extra time to find a spot!

First time visit to B a Salon on Armitage and met with stylist Stephanie for a cut and color. I was so happy with the friendly service I recieved from Stephanie. She presented many color options as i was looking to lighten my hair color for spring. She also cut long layers and styled my hair better than any other stylist I’ve seen in Chicago. I would recommend my friends and family to B a Salon on Armtiage. The salon is very quant, boutique salon with modern décor. Ask for Stephanie if you are looking for a new stylist in Chicago.

After several terrible haircuts in Chicago I finally was referred to Morgan here and she is AMAZING. I have long, thick, stick straight hair and she has been able to create an actual style with it that isn’t choppy/​mullet-​like. The salon itself is cute, clean, and the rest of the staff is very friendly.

Lena is what makes this salon for me! She is incredibly talented with her eye for color, and has always made me comfortable with her choices and our decisions. Each and every single time, I walk out with color better than the last (with every color appt. being great!). She has a great eye for what works with complexion, hair texture, personal style, etc.
On top of it, she’s incredibly joyous to chat up a storm with! She’s energetic, comical, and hospitable. She’s always professional, in the sense that she knows when to chat, when to allow the client to simply browse magazines/​think, and is always completely immersed in her work (more zen time)!
A great salon, all-​over, for highlights, balayage, blowouts!

Well, I’m obsessed with my hair! And I FINALLY found the best colorist in Chicago. Dhanna at the B salon is awesome. She has taken me from a mousey brunette to a Gisele like brunette-​blonde.
She always listen to me and she always does her magic with the color.
I have got so many compliments it’s unreal. And she’s using this non toxic color that doesn’t burn my scalp.
The salon is clean and the staff is very friendly. I also like that there is plenty of parking within 2 blocks from the salon and the neighborhood is great.
Oh, and I forgot to mention the beverage station with the best green tea I have tried.

I came to b. salon because I was new to the city and a friend recommended Alex (Monica). I’ve had my haircut 3 times now and each time my experience has been fantastic! I told friends at work (we are all new to the city) and 2 other girls now go there and have been really happy with their haircuts and color. One of them goes to Alex (Monica) but I’m not sure who the other girl sees.
It’s very clean, modern and the service is great. If you’re new to the city like I was and are looking for a salon, b. salon is a great place to go!

I have finally found my salon! I was so happy with the service, color, cut, and even the wine! I saw Kiona, who is the best. She was very detailed and fun to talk to. She worked hard to correct a botched balayage highlight from a different salon.
I had a semi perm color applied at my roots to deepen my ombré, a mid tone applied beneath that to blend the bad highlights, and a brightening glaze at the ends to refresh the blonde I had. I’ve never been so happy walking out of a salon. The color service with the cut was $ 150.
Big bonus, their white wine is delicious. Much better than your typical complimentary wine at salons.

I’m sure all the stylists are fantastic, but I’ve only been with one, and I HIGHLY recommend JOEL.JOEL.JOEL.JOEL. He is amazing. I’ve been following him since 2005 and will follow him to the moon if it comes to that. I don’t even live in Chicago! I’ve moved almost every year all over the world but religiously STILL book appointments with Joel every time I am in Chicago visiting the family. I’ve tried others, but no body does a Blond like Joel does ;)

This is the first time I’ve ever written a review on Unilocal but had such a wonderful experience that I was compelled to share it.
I went in for a full foil highlight and a very slight trim to clean ends as I’m in the process of growing it out. I am very particular about the color blonde I have and usually walk out disappointed and then get used to it. But after seeing Dhanna that all changed! We talked about the color in detail and what I wanted. She paid a great deal attention to detail that I haven’t had before and knew exactly what I wanted. Once it was dry it was exactly what I wanted. But you know how lighting in salons can be deceiving both in good and bad ways. I got it done yesterday and wanted to wait until I had seen it in multiple lighting before I wrote. This is the first time that I love the color in ANY lighting and is definitely THE BEST color I’ve gotten. She does color instructing at the salon so I can see why she’s so good.
Not only that but the cut was great too! Not that there was much to do but she was probably the first stylist who understood that I didn’t want the inch being taken off that I’ve spent the past few months growing out and did just enough to make it feel healthier but look no shorter
Let’s also not forget the ambience and customer service. I was offered complimentary beer, wine, tea almost immediately and while I was getting my hair done the receptionist came over to check if I needed more tea. Dhanna also made sure I had a good trashy magazine in hand while she did wonders.
Could not recommend this place more! First time at a salon that I made sure to schedule the next appointment as I couldn’t wait to return!

Today, I had my first appointment with Dhanna. I was greeted by a cheerful gal at the front desk who quickly got me settled and a delish glass of white wine. I was 20 minutes early for my appointment, so I expected to wait, but I barely sat there for 10 minutes before Dhanna took me back.
Dhanna was wonderful; she made suggestions and understood exactly what I wanted. She showed me some blow-​drying tips and didn’t make me feel like a moron for not getting my hair cut in over 6 months.
Overall, the ambience is perfect. Not to bright, but cozy. I didn’t feel rushed, or like anyone was running behind. There is a plethora of magazines and choices of beverages.
Most importantly, I walked away with a fantastic, easily workable haircut for a reasonable price. I’ve already booked my appointment to see Dhanna again in January :)

I am so happy to have found a place to get my hair done in Chicago.
It was stressful to leave my hairdresser in California when I moved to Chicago. I’d been seeing her for ten years!
Alex was highly recommeded and she was fantastic. I’ve been growing out my highlights for the better part of a year and Alex blended my natural color into the highlights. Now I have a cleaner ombré and cut.
I’ll be seeing Alex from now on! Very affordible and a very clean, modern salon.
