Auto Progress

So terrible. I’m not generally one to write reviews at all, but this place was SO AWFUL that I felt like I had to. I really don’t want any other nice Chicagoans going through this.
I bought a VW Jetta from this place. The people at the dealership were generally courteous during the buying experience, so that wasn’t my issue. Also, full disclosure, this was my first time buying a car (lived in NYC for 6 years after college and didn’t need a car). I didn’t know what questions to ask, specific things to check the car for, etc. I just knew to check the CarFax… which I did.
Within five days of buying the car, my tire light came on. I took it to a car service center to see if I could have the tire patched. They said that they weren’t legally able to patch the tire because three out of the four tires were BALD. This was during Chicago winter when it is even more dangerous to drive on tires like that. The 4^th was legal, but within a month of needing to be replaced. So, I essentially had to buy four new tires.
The sixth day, the brake light came on. I took it to a brake place to have it looked at. The service man told me that the rear brakes needed to be completely replaced, and the front ones were ok, but should really have the pads replaced at a minimum. I was skeptical about his diagnosis, as I know that many times, they will tell you you need things replaced when you really don’t. I drove back over to Auto Progress to speak with the man I bought the car from from about the issue. Side note: the man at the brake place said in a credible way that he really didn’t feel good about me driving the car at all. As I was pulling up to Auto Progress, the car started making a REALLY LOUD beeping noise, and the brake light started rapidly flashing. It was alarming.
I tried to be nice and tell the gentleman at Auto Progress that I just wanted to feel safe in my car (that I had bought a week prior). I told him about the tires and the brakes. After talking, he switched out the rear brakes with another set of used brakes. Within a week or two, the brake light came on again. I took it to a different brake place that told me that the rear brakes needed new rotors and pads. Ugh!
Oh yes, and also during this time, both of my front headlights burned out. I suppose that was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I ended up trading the car in after 4 months at a nice Mitsubishi dealership in Naperville.
Bottom line: please avoid this place unless you are so knowledgable about cars that you can thoroughly check it out yourself. They are, at best, mildly incompetent or at worst, highly unscrupulous. There are many better places to buy a car.

If you’re looking to save money go there they buying the cars from the same place were huge dealers buying. Except they lower markup so basically the price advertise it’s a sale price. I recommend driving car before buying it. There will also let you look at the car under on the lift if you ask.

Don’t purchase here. The dealer will hang onto the car to fix cosmetic issues but not take care of major ones — like a catalytic converter. The service engine soon light was on, off before I gave them the check, then on again within 30 days. If you don’t mind spending additional thousands to make the car safe to drive (and yes, there were safety issues) don’t give him a check until you take the car to a good mechanic.

It was my first and last time when I bought a car from them.
After 3 months and 5 days I called them because I had an issue with a transmission. They said that since the warranty is only for 3 months there is nothing what they can do about it. Nice.

I went in to look at a car I had seen advertised. An older salesman opened the door of the car for me and went away. I sat in the car for a few minutes (seats, check. steering wheel, check). I went back into the office to discuss the car, and the salesman was there, back to me, watching pornography on his computer.
Yeah, I quickly I lost my desire to have a conversation with him about anything.

I just bought a new Volvo S60 from AutoProgress. I was really happy with the price they gave me (4k less than Carmax) and they were eager to fix any problems I had with the car. I give it two thumbs up
