Welcome to Artisans 21 Gallery

It’s Hyde Park’s jewel for unusual hand-​crafted items and original artwork. Artisans 21 is one of the country’s oldest cooperative art galleries owned and operated by 20 artists and artisans. You’ll discover a variety of one-​of-​a-​kind items offered directly from artist to customer including jewelry, ceramics, wearable textiles, photography, calligraphy, digital art, mosaics, quilting and weaving. History

Established in 1974.

Artisans 21 is one of the Midwest’s oldest artists’ co-​ops. Its members create original fine arts and crafts for display and sale in their Gallery on 53^rd Street where it has been located since June, 2009. Previously it was located at Harper Court, a development to support the arts inspired by Muriel Beatle, wife of the then-​chancellor of the University of Chicago. The members create wearable art, jewelry, photography, mosaics, digital art, leather, calligraphy, wood and ceramics. Artisans 21 has no staff since members work in the store and volunteer their time in managing marketing and operations of the store.
