Do the people that wait in that LONG line on the weekends have no taste??? I do have to say their cinnamon rolls are one of the best, for that I gave the two stars (or I would have given a negative 1). Went there this am… Ham, cheese omelet was horrible… too dense and the the ham was super fatty! Biscuits and gravy where very dry and tasteless. Couldn’t finish because the second bisquit was so hard and stale it was not eatible! I would have given 4 stars if I was reviewing the wait staff cause they were terrific! Bottom line better places to go for breakfast… won’t be back!

For many, this is a Chicago staple due to their legendary cinnamon bun sides. For me it had been a few years since I last went to Ann Sather due to not enjoying my previous experience. I have to say I’m glad I gave this place a reprieve. The food was very good and very filling. If you don’t leave feeling full after dining here then more power to you. I had the classic breakfast of 2 eggs (which it seems like you get 3) bacon and two sides (hash brown and the pictured cinnamon bun (s)). My 3 dining comrades all enjoyed their meals as well. We beat the Sunday rush, but be warned this place can get packed. Service was very attentive and very quick. I’ve seen other reviews attack the service, but we had great and fast service.

Went here last weekend and I can already tell that the cinnamon rolls are the main reason you come! Lol this was my first time at this place and I cannot wait to come back again! For me it’s always hard to choose between a sweet breakfast or a savory breakfast. I winded up getting a chicken fajita omelette that came with a side of 2 cinnamon rolls, so I got both sweet AND savory! The best of both worlds :) I will say Ann Sathers is a great breakfast place that will hit the spot.

I know this is probably the most overused phrase on Unilocal but if I could describe Ann Sather in one word it would be YUM!!! Whenever I have been there it has always been crowded but the service is the best. I haven’t tried the cinnamon rolls yet but word on the street is they are amazing. I love their omelettes especially because it comes with two sides AND toast. AMAZING! YUM! GET THERE!

Have gone here for brunch a couple of times and it’s okay, nothing grand, typical busy diner. Had eggs over easy, bacon, hash browns and biscuits. It was good. Had the cinnamon roll, too sweet.

I saw this restaurant on a tv show and was determined to visit once I got to the city. It’s all about the cinnamon rolls. It can be ordered with the breakfast. Ask for it warmed and extra icing. Thank me later.

I’ve been coming here ever since I moved down to the city 4 years ago. Despite how busy it always seems like it is during breakfast/​brunch, I have never have had any issues being seated within a reasonable amount of time (usually just me and one other person).
My go to is the Avocado Delight Wrap with a side of hash browns (house potatoes) and cinnamon rolls. This place is also BYOB which is awesome and the prices are super reasonable for the amount of food you get.
Solid brunch spot, would recommend to anyone.

this review is long overdue! I first visited in the 2009 on my husband and I first trip to Chicago to see a Bears game. We have been returning to Chicago every fall and we never miss a chance to have breakfast here! We even bring those cinnamon rolls to our friends in Virginia. Definitely our go to spot when we’re in town.

The first time I went to Ann Sather I dreamed about it for months afterward, and it was on the very top of my list when we returned to Chicago. Unfortunately, although we had no major problems, I wasn’t as impressed on our most recent visit.
Yes, there was a wait, and it was longer than advertised (15 minutes turned into nearly twice that) but I don’t blame the restaurant for being smaller than their own demand — that’s a good problem to have! They really need a better system, though. They have an old-​fashioned paper notebook and a very harried FOH employee who is supposed to keep track of who is being seated when, while also taking care of various restaurant tasks. We came in and put our name down, not aware that we had cut in front of someone else who was also waiting (there was quite a mob up front) and while we stood there, we watched many others come in, look around for the takeout counter, wait for someone to help them and then sometimes just leave.
Once we were seated, it became really hard to decide what we wanted. In retrospect, I would have done what my husband did and ordered just cinnamon rolls with a side of country ham: the ham was deliciously chewy with a smoky-​salty flavor that complimented the sugar-​rush rolls very well. Instead, I went with scrambled eggs, sausage patties, home fries and a sweet muffin. The eggs were fine (about the easiest thing in the world to cook) but the sausage was rubbery, the «fries» more like steamed potatoes and the muffin completely boring — a very plain barely-​sweetened batter with cranberries and huge chunks of orange peel. Even the cinnamon rolls (I managed to get a couple of bites before he inhaled them) were a little too doughy for me, and oh my goodness, the sugar!
On my way out I saw the swedish pancakes with lingonberries, which looked pretty great — they’re thin like crepes, but crispy at the edges — and between those and the lunch menu, I could probably put together a decent return visit. But I wouldn’t wait in line again, so it’s probably not going to happen anytime soon!

Whoa. What a shitty excuse for a place for people to take a meal! Dirty and dusty, and situated in a VERY HIGH CRIME AREA of Belmont Avenue, near the red line el train. (For more information — critical — about the chances of you becoming a victim of a thugging or a mugging, even in broad daylight, visit a website called cwbchicago. Just google it.)
Service: Gruff semi-​greeting on arrival. Led to a table that was not bussed, yet scads of clean prepared tables were available. Eons passed before the waiter arrived. I enjoyed sitting there inhaling the fumes and remaindered left-​behinds of the previous diners. The waiter brought water and I didn’t see him again. On inquiry I learnt that he went on break. Well, fuckme for interrupting your break.
That’s as far as I got with this non-​dining experience. The smell of grease, and something burnt (perhaps rice or some veggie) permeated the air. The sad depressing décor, the average diner age of around 75, and the stickiness on top of the table, silver, and water glass were all more than I was prepared to handle. I exited.
One critical take-​away here: consider the safety of this block along Belmont before you decide to venture out. It’s well-​documented that the street is UNSAFE. Probably the same could be stated about the food!

Cinnamon rolls were AMAZING! Simply to die for. Unfortunately the rest of our meal was rather underwhelming. Don’t get me wrong, it was fine but nothing out of the ordinary, just a very basic menu. I had an omelet and my husband had the potato pancakes. The potato definitely the better choice but still just ok.
Would return just for a takeout order of cinnamon rolls though!

Yum! So if you go on a Sunday grab a bottle of champagne from the liquor store down the block and expect to wait for a little bit. They might tell you 30 min but then your table could be ready sooner. I had the Swedish sampler breakfast and it could probably feed 2 – 3 people. Don’t bring it home because it’s not good later on after chillin in the fridge. Everything is yum in that platter and you MUST get a side of cinnamon rolls. The hashbrowns and sweet muffin was meh so next time I’d probably try the biscuits. Honestly I was full after the cinnamon roll so that’s why I’m saying a plate can be shared! And obviously get a carafe of OJ for that champagne. I’ll be dreaming of those cinnamon rolls until next time!

I don’t know how anyone can give this restaurant less than four stars. I have eaten here with friends and family for brunch on several occasions. They have amazing omelettes, freshly made juice, a French toast that is to die for, and high quality food overall.
We have gone with small and large groups and never had issues or long waits. Our kids love it here. And
. The cinnamon rolls. Are. So. Amazing!

LOVE this place! Only my second time. It’s a special treat for when I visit friends in Chicago. The first time, I had an omelette. Three eggs and huge! Was a little too filling considering you can get TWO huge cinnamon rolls as ONE of your sides. They bring out the cinnamon rolls first, so you can snack on them as an appetizer while you wait for your meal.
This time, I got two eggs over easy, bacon, two cinnamon rolls, and fried potatoes (they call them hash browns, but more like pan fried potatoes if you ask me). Everything was delicious! The bacon isn’t as crisp as I normally prefer, but it was tasty. The eggs were cooked perfectly. And I can’t put into words how delicious the rolls are.
Service here is great. Even during the busy Sunday brunch stretch, we only waited maybe 10 minutes. They clear and clean tables with lightning speed, take your order quickly, and seem to have started cooking your good while you’re still deciding what you want. I think we have maybe waited five minutes for our food at the most. The wait staff is polite but not annoying. They get you the check quickly, but aren’t obnoxious in trying to push you out of the building.

So many great things about this place. The food is amazing, homemade sweet rolls as a side?! I could get used to that!!! This place just has it down. Service is quick and this location has free off street parking as well. Go to Chicago for the pizza, but stay overnight so you can grab breakfast here!

Came back recently and Ann Sather’s STILL does not disappoint! I had a party of 5 and we were still seated very quickly. This time I tried the V-​4 Omelet, and it was incredible. The omelet came out a little funny looking, I will admit, but was delicious. Chock-​full of vegetables (artichokes! asparagus!) and covered in delicious asiago cheese. I took half home and it was delicious even reheated.
The only disappointment was that the service was a little spotty. Our food still came out very quickly, and we had no problems (our waitress even split our checks for us which was very accommodating for a large group!). Just that our service wasn’t as warm as it was last time, which isn’t a big deal.
Ann Sather’s is definitely going on the short list for brunch!

This place has a quick turnover. They seat you very fast, which is nice when you want to go out for a quick brunch. Be aware that there is, however, always a wait– although, like I said, a quick one.
The menus are paper, so they don’t take them away from you (unless it’s the specials menu). All entrees come with 2 sides, which are large. GET THE CINNAMON ROLLS AS A SIDE. Just. Do it. Take my word for it. They (usually) come out warm. Two FLUFFY cinnamon rolls with warm, gooey icing drizzled (read: glopped) on top. Hnnnng they’re incredible. They come out before the meal, which I’m not a fan off because I fill up on just cinnamon rolls. I would prefer they came out WITH the meal.
They are very accommodating, when it comes to the food. I love omelettes. You can get egg whites in place of eggs, and you can even build your own! I love that option.
The omelettes are cooked very well. They sauté the veggies FIRST, which is how it should be done. The cheese on top is always browned to perfection. The fruit side is a decent portion.
The service is usually fantastic, even when the servers are «in the weeds,» as we say in the service industry (or in «normal terms,» very busy. They fill your water or coffee whenever it needs to be done. They’re very friendly, even from the moment that you walk in the door.
Basically, you just need to hit this place UP!

This is a great, affordable brunch option in Lakeview with some of the best cinnamon rolls around!
Went to Ann Sather on the holiday friday for brunch with two friends around 10 am. The place looked packed but there’s a whole huge dining room you can’t see from the outside so we only had to wait like 10 mins. Service was friendly and they did a great job refilling waters and coffees throughout the meal.
I ordered the monte cristo frech toast, which was an enormous plate of delicious food for only like $ 11! The liggenberry jam they give with it goes great with the ham and french toast covered with eggs on top. You get TWO side dishes with just about every meal which is awesome. And one of those side options is TWO cinnamon rolls. So really, you’re only choosing one side, because you will be ordering the cinnamon rolls. They are huge, creamy and delicious.
Great food and great service for a very reasonable price. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Seating: We got there early so we were seated right away. By 11am on a Sunday the place was packed and there was along wait. I will recommend getting there earlier. The restaurant is not very big.
Food: the food was amazing. I ordered the a steak and eggs which comes with 2 sides plus biscuits. I got the cinnamon rolls as side and it was very large. I was only able to eat half of my food and I took the rest home. You will not be disappointed with the food.
Service:The wait staff were fast and friendly. As soon as we were seated a waiter came and got our drink orders.
Price: meal + orange juice came out to $ 13+tip
