Aniko Salon and Spa, a family owned business, opened Aniko Spa in November 2007 and Aniko Salon in January of 2008. We are located in downtown Chicago’s south loop on the face of a high rise luxury condo building. We pride ourselves on our attention to detail, our creative styling and our deluxe spa amenities. We provide our guests with an array of highly educated, professional and talented service providers and always make sure our guests receive exceptional customer service. At Aniko, we provide to our local community and we lead our business with one philosophy, our team… our family.

After, a number of years as an owner of an Advertising & Graphic Design firm, Marti joins a community of South Loop entrepreneurs who share a passion for enhancing and giving back to the neighborhood. In the short time that Marti has been in Chicagoland, she has lived true to her philosophy of community involvement as a member for the South Loop Association, River North Association, The Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Step-​Up Women’s Network and Cosmetologists Chicago. A graduate of the KRS Summit Salon Business College, Marti has taken the best in class principles taught at the college to help make her Salon and Spa one that it has been recognized as Best of Citysearch 2008 for Haute Haircut, Redeye Chicago, Time Out Chicago and Daily Candy Chicago. They are the best, Steven made my hair look fabulous! Clean, friendly and quality service; these guys know what they’re doing! I’ve been to so many salons, all over the world so know that service this good is hard to find. They don’t tack on a bunch of extra hidden charges like I’ve seen at some other salons and the staff in here is just lovely. The best part is, if you live in the neighborhood you get a discount!

Enter at your own risk. This salon has some talented stylists and some not-​so-​talented stylists. I know this because I got a not-​so-​talented stylist that botched my poor hair, and a talented stylist tried to fix it. I still don’t like how I look, and I’m getting married in a week. I’ve never been let down by a professional salon to such an extreme extent before Aniko, and I’ve been to many in many cities. Maybe this was an isolated freak accident, but I’d still be careful when going here. My color and cut were a total mess (I’m talking letting-​your-​best-​friend-​in high-​school-​style-​your-​hair bad), and it can’t be resolved before my big day. I’m a little traumatized, and I cry more than I knew I could cry about hair. I’ve really tried to embrace my «new look», but at the end of the day, I simply don’t like it.
I would like to add that the salon has been consistently doing what they can to be fair and accommodating. I do what I can to keep any sense of entitlement I have in check; however, I do believe that I am entitled to feel good about myself on my wedding day ESPECIALLY when I’ve been working on just that for over a year. The staff at Aniko has proven to be sensitive to my concerns and not defensive regarding my complaints. For that, I am grateful. I’m going to give them a second chance. I’ll let you Unilocalers know how it goes.

Trusting anyone to ‘get’ your individual hair needs is super tricky, at least I’ve found that to be the case in the past, Sam ‘gets it’. From beginning to end. He assesses, listens and recommends in a none pushy way thendouble washes your hair himself + leaves the conditioner on a lil’ while. A great wash = a blow dry that lasts days on end for me! I came to see Sam as my pal from Europe uses only THE best [she reps celeb’ hairdressers/​makeup] and RAVED about Sam and her blow dry which looked awesome and lasted a week+. I was sold. Sam listens, doesnt try banging on about his chosen products [that drives me nuts] and doesnt use loads of styling products either but gets volume.
I went for it [when I eventually got an appointment as I kept leaving it too late however he advised leave your details on reception and he’ll call back/​make it happen] and got a cut and blow dry on my first appointment and didn’t regret it!
I didn’t realize that he is Tony & Guy trained and I love the way they teach layering. I have long hair and most hairdressers say I cant ‘bounce’ up the layers too short because its long — Sam could and did giving my hair body and texture.
Price wise he is very reasonable and does a ‘buy 3 get 4 package’ on blow outs — making it less of a treat and more affordable on a weekly basis so I jumped on that for sure.
He offered that I could come back within a couple of days for a ‘touch up’, so I did as I took in a couple of natural hair extensions I had and he washed, conditioned and blow dried them two days later and he trimmed and styled them upon me — He’s both talented and a genuinely nice fella.

I haven’t been here but my experience over the phone was enough for me to decide against it!
I called to make an appt for getting my hair and makeup done for my engagement party and the girl on the phone was incompetent! She put me on hold too many times to count for little questions. She asked me for my credit card info to hold the appt and when I asked why (fair enough question) she put me on hold and then came back and said «um it’s in case you cancel we charge 50% of the services». I said «wait in case I cancel… ever? Or is there a window of time?» She got frazzled and handed the phone to a manager and they had to clarify the 24 hr cancellation policy. Weird.
I’ve been to many salons to get my hair done for events and all the stylists have told me that not every stylist likes doing up dos on clients so a lot aren’t even good at it. I’ve been told by stylists to always ask who in the salon enjoys it to make my appt with them. So the answer I got when I asked this was «all of our stylists are trained to do everything and they all love doing hair.» Oh come on, BS! She wouldn’t give me a recommendation so I said forget it and said no thanks!
The last thing I want on the day of my engagement party is a bad updo!

I had an appointment for a massage today. I should add… I am a 3 year customer of this spa … 1 hour before my appointment, they phoned and said the therapist didn’t come into work today. urg… suffice to say … this is how they treat their long term loyal customers … I will finish using my pre paid services. and take my business elsewhere..

I’m giving this place 2 stars, because I only experienced two positives during my two trips to this salon.
Positives:
1) The haircut did look good. Not fantastic, but good.
2) The highlights also looked good. (They were nothing at all like I asked for, which I’ll get to later, but still, they looked pretty good.)
Negatives:
1) I asked for and expected red highlights. (I have dark blonde hair, which at the time didn’t have any artificial coloring in it). The highlights turned out a deep purple. It looked pretty good, but wasn’t anything I wanted/​discussed/​expected.
2) I totally agree with everyone who mentioned the unexpected pricing — my bill was WAY higher than anticipated, and even higher than discussed! When I made the appointment, I asked about the pricing (of course), and I was given the price for the service (cut/​color). I was neither given the price for the blow drying over the phone, nor told at any point in time that it was considered «extra».
3) This was a freak thing, I’m sure, but during my visit for the color, their hot water heater went out. It was below 25 degrees outside, and they had to wash my hair with cold water. I understand there wasn’t much they could do, but my stylist didn’t seem bothered by it at all! Another stylist was running around frantically trying to figure out how to improve the situation for his clients, but mine practically didn’t notice the ice cold water.
4) Finally… this place is DISGUSTINGLY DIRTY! Dust everywhere, random clutter… seriously appalling. I’d understand if this was a lower priced salon, but COME ON. Clean up every now and then! I will never be returning.

I’ve been coming to Aniko Salon for over the past year and am never disappointed. Sam is amazing at what he does. Despite how indecisive I am when it comes to my hair, he is patient and works with me until I know what I want. I always get compliments on my hair thanks to Sam. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well.

I moved to Chicago recently from LA. My stylist in LA was amazing and I was concerned that I wouldn’t find someone like him in Chicago. After trying a few salons, I met with Cheytonn at Aniko and knew right away that her expertise and professionalism were in alignment with my expectations. She is very skilled at working with my African-​American hair type and I always leave satisfied. The salon has a great atmosphere as well. I highly recommend Cheytonn. She’s been great!

My husband and I have been here for couples massages in the past and they have been amazing.
I just came today for a pedicure and it was just what I needed! Incredibly relaxing, great nail tech named Minah – And it was a reasonable price! I will definitely be coming back here for my nail needs in the future!

I went to Sam for the second time (first was for a wash + blow out) for a 2-​process color (base and highlights), trim + blow out and he worked a minor miracle for my over-​processed hair — it looks fantastic! He’s personable, professional and listens to his clients. I’ve been searching for a go-​to hair stylist for a few years and I’m so happy to have found him!

Sometimes you’re just ready for a change. That’s how I was feeling when I made my way to Aniko to get my hair colored. The salon décor is nice and the receptionist was there to greet me.
But Candis was amazing! She poured me a mimosa and then we talked through what I was hoping to achieve with my look (I showed her a picture on my phone). She recommended a baylage with an ash brown toner. The scalp massage during my shampoo an added bonus. After she was finished, I couldn’t have been happier with technique and depth of tones. It was spot on of the Jourdan Dunn pic I showed her. If you need a stylist in the the downtown area, I would definitely recommend Candis.

Candis was great! I had a new hairstyle done by another stylist somewhere else but I hated the length! So I dropped by Aniko and Candis saved my new hairstyle! She made it the exact length and density I was looking for. And she added layers that topped it off! I trusted her skills and she made it work for me. The salon was great too! Super friendly folks and nice ambiance! I’d totally recommend Aniko and more than anything Candis! Total hair saver she was!

I just moved here from NYC and i always got my hair done at John Barrett Salon so clearly my exceptions are high. I walked into Aniko Salon for a cut yesterday and was paired up with Rafina… every part of my experience with her was amazing. Her shampooing skills were so relaxing they put me to sleep and got me to stop talking (which is rare) … she did just what i asked for and then proceeded to give me an amazing blow out (which is HARD to find… trust me !)
I would send my mom or sister to her so I’m sure you can’t go wrong by going to Rafina!

These stars are for my stylist. Not necessarily the salon!!! Candis is so skilled, kind and warm. It’s just a treat to relax and sit in her chair.
I desperately needed a cut and style and a stylist that understood my natural hair care needs and goals! I love my cut, I was heading to Cabo for the weekend and she gave me awesome beach ready curls. Just an amazing experience. I highly re content Candis!!! Can’t wIt yo go back for a color, I’ve seen some of her work and I’m excited for some summer color!

I had Candis cut my hair last weekend. I had the same guy cut my hair for years but when I moved south it became too difficult to get to see him. Three months and 4 average to terrible haircut experiences later I’ve finally found Candis. She took her time cutting my hair and did not make me feel rushed. It was clear from the moment I sat down that she knew what she was doing when it came to cutting hair and interacting with her customers.

I went there for the first time today and Candice was wonderful! Really wonderful! And I am very protective of my hair. I have always gone to the same stylist and only changed when I moved and then when the 2nd one decided to stay home to be with children more. Anyway, I finally branched out again to find someone I can now be faithful to and I found her! She took thorough time to both understand what I wanted and also explain to me how she’d achieve it. She made sure I was comfortable with her as a new stylist (to me) and didn’t make me feel badly! She gave me exactly what I requested and it was as close to the picture as she could get!
My hair is now a lovely, fresh ombré that is still professional, for my career, while being young and fun too! I recommend her to ANYONE, along with this place in general as everyone there seemed equally as cherished and dedicated!

Stay away unless you like to be charged for extra services that your stylist didn’t even mention you were getting done!
I have a few issues with my recent visit at Aniko and I will NOT be back!
First of all, I never received the 20% off discount they were offering last month for having a service done of $ 60 or greater. I received a gift card of $ 130 to get my hair done for Christmas and I made an appointment for 1÷5÷15 for a color and cut. After making the appointment I received the email stating their special and called to make sure that preexisting appointments still qualify. The receptionist that I spoke with on Sunday the 4th said that I can still receive the discount. When I was cashing out on Monday I asked the guy (who was kind of rude) if the 20% discount was applied and he said that it was. I don’t know if he was confused and was thinking about the gift card, but after getting home and doing the math there was no 20% off applied to my bill.
Speaking of paying, that brings me to my next issue. When I was cashing out, I discovered that I still owed $ 90 after my gift card was applied totaling an amount $ 220. I saw written down on a paper the following:
Foil $ 130
Glaze $ 30
H/​C $ 60
Glaze? Why am I being charged for a Glaze if my stylist NEVER mentioned anything about it. I had NO Idea that it was an additional service that I was being charged for, and didn’t even know that it was getting done. I think it is a very irresponsible thing to do and definitely reflects poorly on their salon. My fiancé and I have been coming to Aniko since we moved to Chicago over 3 years ago. We have never had an issue before and this is absolutely ridiculous. We both work in the service industry so we fully understand the meaning of upselling to increase the bill, but I would NEVER add something to someones bill without consulting with them first.
When I called the next day to talk to a manager (who never seems to be around when I call), the best the receptionist could offer me is 50% off my next service. I don’t want a discount off of my next service because honestly after this, I don’t foresee myself coming back. EVER!
I have called several times since and sent an email and yet still no response. Way to be professional Aniko. You are stealing from your customers and its not right!
