A World Through Rose Colored Glasses

They have a large amount of inventory at great prices. We just bought a couple of really cool vintage lamps that are fabulous additions to our home. It’s always fun to look through their huge warehouse. My experience is that most other stores in Chicago either have far less selection and/​or much higher prices. I’m sure I’ll be treasure-​hunting in their store again soon.

I came into this shop today, and someone who I presume to be one of the owners was sitting on the couch in the entry way. He asked if I was here to «apply for the job». When I replied «No, I’m here to look around», he replied, «Oh, because the pole is in the back.» As I walked away, I heard the word «pole dancing». Another man standing there openly said «If I were you, I would slap him», so this was clearly not a misunderstanding.
I did not say anything because I was too uncomfortable to cause a confrontation. Now, I have had time to reflect, and I feel that what happened to me deserves to be shared. This was hands-​down the rudest thing anyone has ever said to me. There is not a single situation where suggesting to a woman you just met that she could sell her body to make a living would be appropriate. Sexually suggestive «jokes» or «compliments» to strangers are harassment. Our society is changing, and this kind of behavior will no longer be ignored or tolerated.
I will not be returning to this store and suggest that others do not either. It is a shame, because Mary was a sweetheart and the items are all very nice, but none of that matters if customers are not treated with respect. I seriously hope this man makes a commitment to never treat another customer this way again.

This is a great place to shop. Huge selection and some interesting items– things you might not find anywhere else. I’m mystified by any negative comments. My wife and I have shopped here more than once and always been treated with courtesy and helpfulness by proprietor and employees. If we were «followed around the store» it was to be attentive, chat, and to help us find what we were looking for. I’d advise Unilocal readers to pay attention to Meegan C.‘s review and ignore the complainers.

I very much enjoyed my experience with Rose and her sister Mary. Contrary to other posts, they are accommodating, fair, and very kind. Having my items delivered tomorrow and bragging about «my» find on the northside!

Rose has so many cool things for sale. She’s the nicest lady. I could have stayed there and talked with all day with her about the huge selection of items. Make sure you go to the back warehouse. It’s fill with stuff. If you are looking for something cool (unlike IKEA) stop by this store.

Super rude and obviously racist or potentially homophobic (perhaps a winning combo of the two) employee followed us around the store and strongly discouraged my partner and I from making a purchase.
Will never step foot into this place again. Great job at making potential customers feel both unwelcome and offended.

Rose is RUDE! Poor customer service.

This is the best store in the entire city! The owner is so creative and can make things. I buy from her all of the time for a well known television show, and for myself personally. She has a wide variety of styles of décor. If you have not been here you are really missing out.

There is actually a really good selection of different kinds of things here. Most of the staff is really helpful and friendly. However the owner, who makes all of the negotiating decisions and whose cell phone is reached when you call the business number (?) just changed the price on an item that I saw in person twice priced differently (raised $ 70?). She also yelled at me over the phone for several minutes and argued about how long I had been considering buying the item in the first place. Even asking if it was all in my head? It was a very bizarre exchange for me being a customer trying to buy a product. Everyone else who helped me when I’ve been there in the past has been great, but Rose just made me not want to go back.

Love this place I heard about this place from one of my clients that they had a lot of fun and beautiful vintage things. I found the most adorable pink vintage love seat ever for a very nice price. I called and left a message and Ashley called me back very quickly. I came right over to pay and she was so helpful and friendly. I didn’t have any help until the next day to pick my love seat since I do not own a truck. When we arrived Ashley and Rose help me pack my chair so it wouldn’t get damaged in my friends truck. We, love the chair it is so beautiful. We will be back. Thanks Rose and Ashley we will be back for more pink vintage charms.

This is my first review ever, but I had to review b/​c this store is incredible. The owner is passionate and knowledgeable. If you are looking for the perfect French Flea Market find, this is your place! It’s full of unique items that are ready to be re-​vamped. The store will even offer to do the painting/​reupholstering for you. There were some great chairs, dressers and unique finds. I wish I had a home to decorate — I would have left with truckloads of furniture. A true treasure!

This store is AMAZING! I have passed by it hundreds of times, telling myself I should stop next time and I finally did. So worth it. If you are in the market for some unique furniture, jewelry or accessories this is your place. The prices vary depending on what you are looking for and what level of work you are willing to put into it. I picked up a sweet vintage chair that needs a little cleaning and paint for $ 30 and have my eye on a pretty nifty sewing table with a vintage sewing machine… in need of some major TLC.
